Nintendo Switch has become the fastest-selling video game system of this hardware generation through 21 months, according to The NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. From its launch in March 2017 through November 2018, Nintendo Switch has sold more than 8.7 million units, outpacing U.S. sales of all other current-generation systems at the same point in their life cycles.

Nintendo is also the overall top-selling U.S. software publisher so far for 2018, according to NPD data through November. This performance should receive an additional boost from the December release of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimategame, which has become not only the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game of all time, but also the fastest-selling game in the Super Smash Bros. series, with U.S. sales of over 3 million units in just 11 days, according to Nintendo's internal sales data.

"We are thrilled to see such a strong reaction from consumers in the second holiday season for Nintendo Switch," said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "We're looking forward to delivering more excitement and smiles to our fans in the coming year and beyond."

The following data from Nintendo of America is specific to the U.S. only:

Other important data point seems to be 3m+ Smash sold in December already. Looks like it's coming for the highest selling launch exclusive.

Really puts things into perspective and makes that talk about "lost momentum" look funny in hindsight.

Title should mention this PR is specific to US.

Also, 3 million of Smash Bros Ultimate in 11 days is the guarantee it will be the new number 1 launch for an exclusive in the US above every Halo games :o

Nintendo is really a weird company huh...their console success really operates on a sine-cosine curve..

Is 3 million Smas Bros. U in 11 days great or just good?

Other than that Nintendo did their own thing and struck gold. Poor old Wii U remains a great prototype of what was to come.

So, Smash Ultimate sales so far:

> 3 million in the US
1.2 million in japan (with second week data being released tomorrow, expectations are around 400k)
~180k in the UK
61k in Spain

That's at least 4.8 million copies sold in 11 days, and without big markets such as France or Germany.

Outside of the obvious, headline-grabbing figures... they sold how much Super Mario Party?

So that also all but confirms that NSW will have more than 10M sales in the US when the year is over.
Kinda nuts. Congrats to Nintendo and more importantly, congrats to Sakurai for making an awesome smash game!

Mario Kart being the best selling title.
The talent that that has. The longevity that that has.
The legs that that has.

The really surprising thing is that the vice president of sales is Bowser.

The new NPD best launches for exclusives should now look like this (in value)

1) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
2) Halo : Reach
3) Halo 4
4) Halo 2
5) Halo 3
6) Spider-Man
7) Super Smash Bros. Brawl

It's funny to think that this Smash launch is probably a greater than Halo 3 level event as far console exclusives are concerned. Truly rare stuff.

Wait that's pretty shocking right? I thought PS4 would be ahead if you counted the november month, because it would have an extra holidays sale but now Switch is shooting past that as well? Or am I miscounting?

Wow, this is really impressive. For comparison, what are the numbers the best selling Halo pulled in the US? Someone in this thread said that Smash may be higher than Halo.

Not highest launch week for exclusive (as Halo 3 did that 3.3 million in a week) but should be easily highest first month. Solid as expected.
