New releases dominate UK boxed charts this week as WarioWare, Tales of Arise and NBA 2k22 nab the top spots

The Nintendo Switch exclusive did not need to sell a lot to get to the top, and in fact it's one of the softer Switch game launches this year. Its boxed launch sales are below that of Miitopia, which debuted at No.2 back in May.

It narrowly held off Bandai Namco's RPG Tales of Arise, which made No.2. The game has performed well for Bandai Namco, with sales more than double that of its previous RPG release, Scarlet Nexus, which reached No.8 back in June. Of course, Scarlet Nexus is a new IP, while Tales of Arise is part of Bandai Namco's long-standing Tales of series.

For Tales of Arise, 58% of sales were on PS5, 28% on PS4, 13% on Xbox Series X and S and 1% on PC.

The only game that may prevent Tales of Arise reaching No.1 is NBA 2K22, which debuts at No.3 in the boxed charts. It's a slow start for NBA, with sales down by almost half compared with the launch of last year's version. But again, digital data may change all of that.

46% of NBA 2K22's sales were on PS5, 27% on PS4, 13% on Xbox One, 10% on Xbox Series X/S and 2% on Nintendo Switch.

There is another new release down at No.6 in the form of Life is Strange: True Colors. The Square Enix title sold best on PlayStation (54% of sales on PS5, 28% on PS4, and 18% for Xbox Series X/S).

the producer of Rhythm Heaven is still recovering from serious illness and surgery,
it would be a long long wait for next entry, if there is any.

edit: It was a surgery of removing the vocal cord.

Minecraft Switch physical is closing in on 400K, which means it could very well surpass Zelda BotW and Animal Crossing NH's LTD in the future.

There were a ton of supply drops last week. I follow a few of the stock Twitters and almost every major store in the UK had ps5 supply.

Deathloop is one of the biggest exclusives of the year - glad that Sony had more PS5 in stock for retailers/customers.

Something I noticed is that ToA is listed as being 1 last week and Wario at 2. Although the blurb says Wario at 1. Wonder if they are mixing digital and physical chart info.

  • Deathloop comes in first, but boxed sales are Arkane's lowest to date slightly behind Prey (source is the Tweet below). However, it should obviously be pointed out that the digital share of the pie continues to increase and that the game is a timed PS5 console exclusive
  • Big week for PS5 thanks to new units being shipped: Spider-Man Miles Morales sales increased by 223%, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart sales increased 630% and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is up 233%
  • Wario Ware: Get It Together sales drops 51%
  • Tales of Arise's sales drops 70%
  • NBA 2K22 sales drops 41%
  • Nintendo Switch games increase in sales thanks to a £20 discount on the Switch itself: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is up 10%, Minecraft is up 10% as well and Animal Crossing: New Horizons is up 11%

This wasn't my initial intention, I wanted to try to keep the SalesEra spirit and what was left of the community going.     So 65% digital and 35% physical sales for the month.

    I know that Nintendo don't report digital sales, only physical. So I wonder if that is factored in to that result? Do they report that they sold x amount of digital software but just no specifics?

    Because if not, that digital split should be even higher as it's including all of Nintendo's physical sales (21% of all boxed sales for the month) and zero digital.

    Yeah I'm also assuming those figures naturally include titles that are digital only, and ones that have very limited physical releases, but the split is still impressive
