This is pretty interesting. I just tried to cancel my YouTube Premium sub and now Google is telling me about Premium Lite. Costs 6,99 euros per month (instead of 11,99 euros for Premium) and simply gives you an ad-free YouTube experience. So you don't get any of the other Premium features.

This is pretty much what I wanted (I'm not really interested in YouTube Music Premium for example). Lite doesn't include background play though which sucks. I'm in the Netherlands by the way. Not sure how widespread Lite is.

URL: https://www.youtube.com/premiumlite.

EDIT:

Looks like Lite is available in Finland and Sweden too: https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/ok1bin/youtube_premium_lite/.

Interesting. 4,99€ and I would seriously consider it given how much Youtube I watch on my TV (it would work on TVs aswell, right?)

Same, in the normal app ads got kind of annoying. Best is when I watch a 10 second clip and they put a 15 second ad without skip before it.

Only 6,99€ premium in Germany right now is the one with student discount!

really seems to be only in Netherlands right now

Getting an error when I try to subscribe to Lite though :(

EDIT:

Google didn't really like my ad blocker so I turned that off for a sec and I'm now subscribed to Lite. Cool!

Currently on a two-month free-trial of Premium in the UK, as the Ads were getting ridiculous. If this becomes available after that expires on the 30th, I'll definitely grab it. We both watch far more user-created content on Youtube on a daily basis than anything on Netflix.

Would sub in an INSTANT if they brought this to America. I'm on a trial of Premium and wasn't going to keep- the Music app is not up to snuff so I was going to go back to Spotify; and $12 a month just for ad free videos was a non-starter

I hope this makes its way to the US!!

Question for those who have it: when watching on Android, can you play a video that YouTube considered "music" with the screen off using the lite mode?

I would so be in for this if they brought it to the states. I didn't mind Premium when Play Music was a thing, but YouTube Music sucks so bad. I switched to Spotify but I don't want to give up my ad-free youtube.

I'd instantly do this in the UK. Only reason I'm on Premium is no YT ads.

You can very easily subscribe to a low priced YouTube Premium, just buy the subscription when connected through VPN from Indonesia, India or similar countries

That's a lot closer to what I'd be willing to pay to eliminate ads, but it's not available here.
The other issue for me is that I use a separate account for YouTube than other Google services, so I'm not sure about how payment would be handled. I don't really want it tied into my name.

Why would I ever pay to have ads removed? uBlock exists.
Smart Devices and iOS devices generally have no ad-blocking options.

I cancelled my premium last month because it just cost too much. As long as it's ad free and I get to play stuff with my screen off I'd re-sub for this immediately

Youtube Vanced blocks ads and has background play.

I signed up for Premium hoping to watch more YouTube, then realized a lot of videos just do their own ads directly in the video now. Sigh.

Stil €20 for me in Denmark per month for Premium, what a joke of a price.

I almost exclusively watch YouTube through TV, few hours a day.

If it's no more than £5/month in the UK I'll sub too.

YouTube will often put its ads on the same servers as the videos, which means you can't block them without also blocking the video player.

Also, some devices (mainly TV) don't support blockers and other plugins.

I'd switch to this the instant it's released in the US. only reason I have premium is to block ads

I would consider it, but I have grown accustomed to Youtube music now. I use it for all my music and don't want to give that up at this point so I'll have to keep the full sub. Nice to have the option though.

Nothing for me, and I'm Dutch, so it seems select accounts only.

Hope this rolls out internationally. I use Spotify and never use YT Music. Would gladly take a $9.99 sub for ad free YT only.

I consume a lot of yt on my TV and have been contemplating a premium sub, but I hate their price. I'd sub to this because all I want is to get rid of the ads.

Does anyone know if the Lite membership can be shared with family members like with Premium?

Vanced has been a life changer.
It doesn't work on the TV app or iPad/iPhone app though does it? That's what I watch on 99% of the time

While I could see that being handy occasionally I don't see myself really needing it. I never even used it with Netflix. So I'd be happy with the cheaper ad only plan. Hope it comes as an option and doesn't get a terrible price.
I use the downloads more than I thought I would. (It's for the mobile app, you can't download vids as files to your desktop unfortunately) I rarely have the attention span for a movie at home, let alone when I'm on a plane or trying to kill time somewhere. Having a bunch of 10-15min videos queued up just fits my tastes better.
