September is the official start of the fall TV season, when basically every broadcast network's lineup is back in full swing! We got One Chicago, both NCIS', both Law & Orders, all three FBI's, and Fox's Animation Domination!

Cable is also going hard with the highly anticipated return of American Crime Story on FX, along with the third season of What We Do in the Shadows; Billions is back with the second part of season five after COVID played havoc with their scheduling; Sex Education is back too, and don't forget Doom Patrol!

September is also when we say goodbye to several favorites, with the final seasons of Dear White People, Lucifer, Goliath, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

But there's lots of promising new series too, each with the potential to become your next obsession! (why did I write that lol) HBO had the audacity to remake Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage, starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain - genius or hubris? Then there's American Rust, starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney - we like them right? There is a new Star War, this time in anime form; Wonder Years is getting rebooted on ABC; BJ Novak has some kind of anthology thing on FX; 50 Cent's got yet another new crime show on Starz; documentary master Ken Burns...returns...with a new doc on Muhammad Ali; Mike Flanagan has another limited horror series lined up at Netflix with Midnight Mass; from the looks of it, Apple is throwing all of their money into Isaac Asimov's Foundation; and finally we have the long awaited adaptation of the modern classic comic book series Y: The Last Man on Hulu!

~ Recent Highlights ~

Blindspotting

Blindspotting centers on Ashley, who is living in Oakland until her partner and father of their son, is incarcerated, leaving her to navigate an existential crisis.

The White Lotus

The White Lotus is a sharp social satire following the exploits of various employees and guests at an exclusive Hawaiian resort over the span of one highly transformative week.

As darker dynamics emerge with each passing day, this biting six-episode series gradually reveals the complex truths of the seemingly picture-perfect travelers, cheerful hotel employees, and idyllic locale itself.

Ultra City Smiths

Two detectives must contend with dangerous corruption as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of the last honest politician in their dark city; a group of unlikely suspects emerges -- each with the last name of Smith. Also, everything is puppets.

Into the Night - Season 1 was a lot of fun and was a good quick watch.
Midnight Mass - I'll watch anything by Mike Flanagan.
Foundation - Probably will binge it after the season is done.
Y The Last Man - Kind of iffy on this one.

Midnight Mass - I will always be there for Flanagan
Doom Patrol - Nothing needs to be said here.
Big Sky - I liked the first season well enough to tune in again

Might give it a go:
  • La Brea - Has some big Zoo energy.
  • Dive Club - That trailer was all over the place and I'm kind of into it.
  • The Premise - Will wait to hear what people have to say.
  • Foundation - Trailers have been cool but it also doesn't feel at all like Foundation which is kind of off-putting and, on top of that, I don't even like Foundation!
  • The Chestnut Man - Why not?

I'm so excited for What We Do in the Shadows — Season 3!

And maybe check out Foundation later this year when I sign up to a month of Apple TV.

p.s. Thanks for yet another superb monthly TV thread RatskyWatsky!

Oof, this is a monster. No idea how I'm gonna keep up with this stuff. Thank you RatskyWatsky king

Thursday, 2
What We Do in the Shadows - FX - 10/9c
Season 2 was nowhere near as good as Season 1, so here's hoping this is a bounce-back.

Monday, 6
Robot Chicken - Adult Swim - 12/11c
MEH. Just end already.

Creepshow - AMC - S2 linear date, I think. I ADDED THIS IN TO REMIND MYSELF
Will check this out since I don't have AMC's streaming jazz. Season 1 was sort of OKish in parts.

Tuesday, 7
Impeachment: American Crime Story - FX - 10/9c
I liked season 1 but didn't care much for season 2. This one looks... OK? Sort of? I dunno. Ryan Murphy is so hit-or-miss.

Friday, 10
Lucifer - Netflix - Final Season
Looking forward to the end of this fun show.

Sunday, 12
Scenes from a Marriage - HBO - 9/8c
Worried but it's HBO proper so they got me.

Monday, 13
Y: The Last Man - Hulu
Shocked this is actually airing. Fingers crossed, trailer wasn't great.

Tuesday, 14 and Wednesday 15 - I ADDED THIS IN TO REMIND MYSELF!
30 for 30: Once Upon a Time In Queens - ESPN
Have been dying to see this.

Thursday, 16
Tacoma FD - TruTV - 10/9c
Adore this moronic show. Can't wait!

DARK SIDE OF THE RING - VICE - I ADDED THIS IN TO REMIND MYSELF
HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH!

The Premise - FX on Hulu
Didn't realize this was an FX show; I'm interested now.

Sunday, 19
Teenage Euthanasia - Adult Swim - 12/11c
Feel like it has been forever since I've enjoyed a new AS show, but I always give 'em a shot.

Monday, 20
9-1-1 - Fox - 8/7c
Great show, great cast. Looking forward to this.

(The Big Leap - Fox - 9/8c)
Really doesn't look like my thing but I may try an episode or two.

Tuesday, 21
(Our Kind of People - Fox - 9/8c)
Interesting premise, will give it a shot.

Wednesday, 22
Star Wars: Visions - Disney+
Mega pumped for this. Star Wars on streaming is SO MUCH BETTER than Star Wars on film at the moment.

The Wonder Years - ABC - 8:30/7:30c
Literally no chance this even comes close to the original, but I'll give it a shot. The Conners rocks.

The Conners - ABC - 9/8c
Love it.

Friday, 24
Foundation - Apple TV+
Pumped. Please be good.

Saturday, 25 (this is actually October 1)
AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth's History of Horror - AMC+
This has been enjoyable, didn't know they were making more.

Sunday, 26
The Simpsons - Fox - 8/7c
The Great North - Fox - 8:30/7:30c
Bob's Burgers - Fox - 9/8c
Family Guy - Fox - 9:30/8:30c
Sure, whatever, OK.

Nuclear Family - HBO - I ADDED THIS IN TO REMIND MYSELF
Saw a trailer the other day, seems interesting.

Thursday, 30
(10-Year-Old-Tom - HBO MAX)
The Life and Times of Tim was terrible, but I'm morbidly curious.

Meh...Foundation looks like it might be cool, but I don't see much to get excited about otherwise. Feel like all of these new shows are of middling ambition and not terribly interesting.

OFC, I'll check anything out that gets a good reception (outside pure melodrama shows).

It's a busy month. I'll be catching up on AHS Stories (Hulu) and the new AHS season, also Brand New Cherry Flavor. I just started Sky Rojo S2 and I'm enjoying Clarkson's Farm on Amazon too. I also have Heels to try soon.

That Dive Club, let's see... attractive teens in a beach setting with a sunken treasure plot, hmmm, sounds quite a bit like Netflix' other show Outer Banks.

Kin looks promising, strong cast, but I'll have to wait for regular AMC.

When I next get Peacock for the EPL I'll be interested in that Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol.

Foundation looks great. John Stewart too. I might finally cave and try Apple+ soon.

2nd - What We Do In The Shadows (FX)
3rd - Money Heist (Netflix). Hell yes, last two seasons were great.
5th - Billions (Showtime). It's past its prime, still good though.
12th - American Rust (Showtime)
13th - Y The Last Man (Hulu). I'm not sure about the premise, but I'm always in for some post-apoc.
17th - Sex Education (Netflix)
17th - Squid Game (Netflix). It looks like Alice in Borderland but not quite as interesting, we'll see.
20th - NCIS Hawaii (CBS). We liked Hawaii Five-O. NCIS is so repetitive, so a new cast and a Hawaii setting should be a nice change.
21st - FBI International (CBS)
23rd - Doom Patrol (HBO Max)
24th - Midnight Mass (Netflix)
28th - La Brea (NBC). I'm not sure why NBC bothers with shows like these. They always cancel them. Anyway, the trailer reminded me of the old cartoon Valley of the Dinosaurs.

1974 - Valley of the Dinosaurs cartoon opening

This was about a family who gets transported to a prehistoric land. To me, it is the cartoon version of the live action show "Land of the Lost", for any of ...
29th - The Chestnut Man (Netflix)

Sex Education.

The Morning Show.

Two of the best shows on television at the moment. Can't wait. Nothing else really jumps out but I'll keep an eye on Foundation to see if it's worth investing any time into.

Just finished watching Wizard City. It was very fun! But I think it's the weakest of the Distant Lands episodes, but it's probably only because the other three are so strong.

I would personally rank them like so:

1. Obsidian: This episode is perfect! To me it was so emotional…
2. Together Again: Great blend of nostalgia, fun, and emotion.
3. BMO: It's BMO!!
4. Wizard City: Fun adventure, but more… conventional, I guess? Compared to the other three at least.

Would watch Y the Last Man if it were going to be on FX. Not getting Hulu for it tho.

Tons of new shows I'll add to the list to consider checking out, though several km skeptical will get a second season so I won't be jumping in too early. Thanks for the thread as always!

With the recent announcement of Dickinson's renewal for a third and final season, I decided to give the show a chance.

And wow, I'm highly surprised. This is so good! I really love this kind of story placed in a historical setting but stylized with modern elements and modern sensibilities. And this show is wild on that front...

I liked the first two episodes but wasn't too sure where the story would go, but I just watched the third episode (the one with the party) and my jaw dropped. It was amazing! I really loved it!

I really wonder where it will go from there.

Edit:
And holy shit! I just realized that the character of Sue is played by Ella Hunt from Anna and the Apocalypse!! I was wondering where I saw her before...

Catching up on some stuff, since coming back from vacation.

Season finale of Legends of Tomorrow was solid, season as a whole was okay but definitely not one of the strongest the show has done.

Really enjoyed the 2 part finale of Rick & Morty S5.

It's not exactly recent, but... just finished watching the first season of Top of the Lake. Whew, that was an intense 6 episodes.

Also watched Undone (or at least season 1, since apparently there's a 2nd season in the works)... it was also quite good.

So I watched Dug Days and put that on the 52 seasons list. Is that okay? The episodes are so short and there aren't a lot of them, so I understand if I should take them down from the list.

(I've also already finished my watches of For All Mankind (S2), Batman: The Brave and the Bold (S2 and S3), and A.P. Bio (S4).)

Oh, Into The Night S2 just dropped on Netflix. The first season was surprisngly good, if you like disaster movies. I'll get to that after the latest Money Heist.

One ep left in Sky Rojo. What a ride.

I'm halfway through the second season of Dickinson. I really like this show. It's so fun, and the music is always on point. The story is very engaging too. I'm kicking myself a little for not having watched this sooner.

It's all just so fun!

I just finished the second season of Dickinson. Final impression and I'll shut up about it :p

It was amazing. The acting, the direction, the music... All the elements of the show blend together so perfectly to give an incredibly unique experience. It was so much fun! And I love the way they made the character of Emily evolve throughout these two seasons, it really was interesting.

I'm really looking forward to that third and final season.

Heels hasn't been perfect, but definitely has filled a hole I've had since SOA went off the rails (and eventually ended).

With B99 being over (enjoyed the finale), it's the end of a NBC comedy era for me. No more B99, Superstore, or The Good Place. All going away in recent years.

Finished Mythic Quest S2 last night. Overall really enjoyed the show, glad it was the first series I decided to check out on Apple TV+. Hope it comes back and would be curious to see how things look considering the way it ended.
