Interesting! What is this Infinity Train all about?

Isn't it the thing with Jason Mantzoukas? It's good?
Quickest way to explain Infinity Train is to just watch the pilot (the series exists because of the insanely good word of mouth that the short created):

Close Enough is the Regular Show team making an adult cartoon sitcom (i.e. the Simpsons, Futurama, Bob's Burgers, etc)

I watched about 10 episodes of the first season. It was good! But it didn't have the same emotional impact as the other shows I listed. Should I continue watching?
If you thought the first 10 episodes were good... then yes continue. I in general tell people to make it to episode 26 to get a better idea of what the show really is (which sounds like a lot but they are half eps) as that's when the show starts shifting tone into what made SU popular.

I in general like using a song from early in season 2 as a trailer to show what it eventually becomes, as while it contains minor spoilers, nothing major is likely to stand out to anyone who doesn't know what they are looking for.

as it shows off how much the show changes and what it eventually becomes by the end of season 1. It should also be noted the show's creator Rebecca Sugar, handled a lot of the Marceline storylines in adventure time.

As others have said Owl House and Infinity train are great additions.
Kipo is also great, and is a fully finished story.
Glitchtechs is fun but likely isn't going to get finished.
And one I haven't seen said either is Final Space, which suffers a bit from Adult Western animation humor at times, but overall does a decent job of telling an interesting story. (edit: as someone mentions it right before me :P)

Harley Quinn 2019 is also really fun.
I'm also recently just starting Daria (1997 series) and have been constantly surprised at how little problematic material is in the series (10 eps in or so), and how relevant it still is today lol.
Oh, and tales of arcadia and dragon prince are CGI but fun. Voltron isn't bad either well... until the very end. She-ra is decent overall.

I know there is more I'm forgetting....

oh...

kid cosmic was solid. it was very much a... this is cute but I wish it was doing more.. wait a minute... oh.... OH! type series for me :P
It's from Craig McCracken ( an American animator, director and writer, known as the creator of popular animated series such as The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends for Cartoon Network, as well as Wander Over Yonder )

ducktales 2017 is also a great series.

It's one of the most unique post-apocalyptic shows I've ever seen. Basically humans live underground, while the surface is filled with mutant creatures, many of them sentient. And when I say mutants, it's less creepy, unnerving shit, and more really creative dope stuff like talking lumberjack cats, to name an example.

Due to an incident, the main character one day finds herself above ground for the first time ever, separated from her people, and thus has to attempt to reunite with them while fending off mutant threats.

The lead is also a protagonist that brims with infectious positivity, she's very fun to follow. Also the entire main cast of kids are black, and the soundtrack is fantastic, made by the same person that worked on Spiderverse.
Avatar The Last Airbender meets Adventure Time with a splash of Attack on Titan

Has an entirely non-white main cast, one of whom is gay, so it deals well with representation and talks about those themes in a very light and positive way, but one that doesn't feel like it talks down to you. The characters of the show have very strong developmental arcs, the world is bery colorful and for a post-apocalyptic world it's one of my favorite takes on that kind of setting. The animation studio, Studio Mir, is the same one that did the animation for Avatar. The music is absolutely outstanding, with it being a very musical show (this along with the setting is the Adventure Time comparison). The character arcs and development plus animation is very Avatar, and there are some plot and action and mythology beats that are very Attack on Titan.

So yeah. It's good shit.

It's about a girl named Kipo who gets thrown to the surface of an apocalyptic world from her burrow, because humans live underground, and has to find her new burrow that her old burrow people evacuated to. The surface is a whole new world to her and she meets a ton of new friends, including humans and "mutes" (mutated animals) alike.
What the heck, how have a literally never heard of this show? Everything you guys described sounds right up my alley!

Not even gonna reseach it any further, going in blind. Thanks for the rec.

Kipo is great. I tried so hard to try to get more people to watch it after season one when they hadn't announced later seasons yet... and again after season 2, and then they confirmed a third and final season with a statement from the creator that it was planned for three seasons all together. So it's a nice story flow in general.

It's got a great soundtrack too so I hope you enjoy :)

GlitchTechs is fine but was doomed even before COVID. The series barely got a 10 episode second season. And the team obviously knew the show was doomed, which is why they did some weird ass shit like the tentacle porn scene (which will almost assuredly be the series lasting reputation)

it never got a second season, don't let netflix fool you. (netflix loves to split single season orders and call them multiple seasons in general)

The eps netflix calls the second season was always the second half of the first season, so there wasn't anything barely about the "second season" as all the eps were completed before the show even started airing episode 1 so nothing about ratings ever changed anything about the series.
The majority of the actual second season. story boards, scripts and what not have been done for a long time and just sitting on nick servers since 2019 or so (and never got to the animation stage :(), the creators have shared bits of them over the last year and have hoped they could get them produced but knew even before episode 1 aired that unless the show was a hit that they likely wouldn't be saved.

The show had a cursed production in general though, and the fact we even got the episodes we did in general is nice as it was originally supposed to air in like 2017 (it was announced in 2016), but then nick was having issues, and shifting their focus on other things and glitch techs kind of just didn't fit anywhere until nick signed a deal with netflix for more shows.

I'm surprised no one has said Solar Opposites yet.

I've laughed until I cried multiple times.
I still need to watch season 2 of that. I found it a little more enjoyable than Rick and Morty, but I find Rick and Morty to be at the very bottom of my tolerable list most of the time.

It likely doesn't help that I dislike Justin Roiland as a voice actor in general (I find him incredibly annoying, and while I know that is a point of some of his characters it's often a "oh god, not that character" reaction to his characters and not in a good way... mostly because my first experience with him was Lemongrab, and like the first episode or two with Lemongrab weren't terrible, but then they continued bringing him back #_#), though he isn't quite as bad in Solar Opposites as he usually is.

Damn, that's even more depressing. But I'm not surprised. It must've been a pretty expensive show to produce considering it was animated to mimic a 2D hand drawn show & even animated the main character's hair on every frame.

My first exposure to him was Rick and Morty which I really enjoy. He's just doing the voice of Rick in this, as well as smaller characters. I should probably dig into Adventure Time more than I have.

Yeah there is a lot of things that are sad about it.

is the original pilot from the wakfu studio.

It also did a great job with representation

Not to mention, at least through the first season the two main characters are a guy and girl... who are just friends. There are no signs at all that they will get together, instead we only get signs that one of the main characters has a crush on another in the show. One of the creators implied on twitter that they never had any plans of them getting together because showing that guys and girls can just be friends is important.

It's a toned down Rick, which is why it isn't horrible. Season 1 Rick is hands down the most obnoxious voice work I've ever heard in my life... good god I hate season 1 rick with all his stupid ass burps sooooooo much. I'm glad they toned that down in later seasons.

There are a lot of recommendations for Harley Quinn, and the description Lotus made of the show had me intrigued. The only thing is that I'm generally not a superheroes fan at all... but I must admit I liked the Birds of Prey movie. So I might give the animated show a chance.

I couldn't stand the birds of prey movie... but most of that was because I watched the harley cartoon first and find the cartoon harley to be a million times better than the movie version lol... thus harley was a real snoozefest in birds of prey for me :P

I didn't look at Lotu's description.... but the series reminds me a lot of another series I should've mentioned. The Venture Bros, just with an R rating. It does some great character humor with some solid overarching plot.

Nowhere near as good but the Dragon's Blood anime is done by Studio Mir - the Korra studio with help from Bryke - the Avatar creators

That is sad. GlitchTechs really did seem like a show with unrealized potential. For a similar soon-to-be-doomed show, I'd like to bring up Villainous, which is an upcoming Mexican produced series based on a long running web series. Based on the attention it's getting, I feel like it's doomed from the get go despite the main woman becoming a tiktok star (long story).

But that's always the issue with animation: the production period is so long that you have to ace your first season or you'll be cancelled before getting a real chance to develop. Fox was the only animation studio who gave projects the benefit of doubt, but now they are owned by "cancel it" Disney

To be fair Disney gives most of their shows a chance.... it's just they have a pretty hard limit on 3 seasons in general... so good shows get 3 seasons and bad ones get 2 >.> (really really really popular ones may get 4) We are already pretty sure that both Anphibia and Owl house are 3 seasons. as both creators have hinted that they planned the stories to be across 3 seasons and specifically the creator of the Owl House doesn't have a ton of interest in doing a long running kids show because she wants to do something more mature in general.

I'm still hoping against all odds Netflix saw good numbers on glitch techs. It seems to have a decent fan art following at least (which I know isn't a great metric to judge a show's popularity, but I really don't have much else to go on lol) But it gets even more complicated with Paramount+ and them trying to bring all their Nick shows back to it and what not. They are going hard into the Avatar the last airbender universe so that will likely be most of their animation focus for the next few years.

OK that was good, LMAO!
Based on your posts here & in the sexualization in video games thread, I'm pretty sure you'll like Harley Quinn. It falls more in the realm of the others DC animated universe shows by trying to tell a story through the lens of superheroes, rather than being strictly about superheroes. Also, it's a outright comedy that plays off of typical superhero tropes.

GlitchTechs is 100% dead. Animation has a very long production process so once a team disbands & moves onto new projects, the original show has no chance of coming back outside of a crazy Futurama level revival.

Animated by Studio Mir (Legend of Korra) and the showrunners worked on both Avatar shows. It's also fully complete at 78 episodes.

I recently watched the first season of Central Park on Apple TV+. It's really a fun musical animated sitcom with a stacked cast (Leslie Odom Jr., Josh Gad, Kathryn Hahn) and some catchy songs.
And it's sort of becoming a stealth Hamilton reunion.

Sadly, it's underrated since it's on Apple TV+. One of the downsides of the streaming wars is that good shows will go unnoticed because not everyone is going to sub to "New Streaming Service #832".

Anyone seen HBO's Spawn? Always been interested in checking that out

It's great, Keith David voices Al Simmons/Spawn so you already know the voice acting is on point. I rarely watch a TV show twice but I did it with this one. The only real negative is that it ended on a cliffhanger yet if you can look past that it's worth checking it out.

Oh. I wasn't saying there was much of a chance. like .0001%. One of the creators went on a dark rant back around the start of the new year to another project creator talking about how you shouldn't assume you are getting another season and thus should fit what you want in that made it pretty clear that he got the absolute confirmation Glitch Techs was dead, but it still was never officially announced as cancelled yet.

DuckTales is so, so good and the only non-adult animation that holds up to Gravity Falls for me (though maybe the first two seasons of Star vs The Forces of Evil).

I found The Owl House disappointing, slow, and not as clever or funny as it thinks.

The adult animation here is largely covered well, but I must say that it's surprising how consistent the quality of American Dad has been and seemingly continues to be. South Park, The Simpsons, Family Guy and other long running examples are far, far patchier.

Bojack Horseman is the darkest, silliest, deepest series that I have more closely related with than most media. It's that good.

I quite like Rick and Morty, though that is patchy.

Probably need to check out some of the other recommendations in this thread, though I'm trying to make it through the larer seasons of The Simpsons right now and note down the relatively infrequent episodes I actually like. Got a thread idea for a few months from now!

It's a double post but I think it's warranted to emphasize how shit tier Voltron is. Do not watch that Conditional-Pancakes
I never thought it was that bad. It has really good animation and action. It goes from being a smaller space fantasy adventure series in the first two seasons to being a full blown space opera for the rest. It loses its focus on character, but the plotting and the action never stops and the world building is pretty strong.

It feels like a lot of the hate comes from everything revolving around Shiro which I get, but it doesn't discount the rest of the series.

Like....i'm not going to pretend that voltron's handling of every LGBTQ issue isn't...somewhat hamfisted. They do the Korra thing of hiding gay relationships behind offscreen characters and retcons instead of presenting it as something that should be celebrated. I think, in it's defense, they were going to put all their eggs in one basket with Peij's story about being non-binary, and then got renewed for 3 seasons past they thought they would.

That being said, it's still a pretty good show. It's just...kind of cowardly when it comes to LGBTQ stuff, especially where same sex relationships are concerned.

I quite like Rick and Morty, though that is patchy.

It's AMAZING how much better Solar Opposites is than the last two seasons of Rick and Morty combined.

Man, the drop off in quality for Rick and Morty is EXTREME. Season 3 was terrible, season 4 seems like they just don't care and are looking for excuses to stop.

Other than what's been mentioned, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a good show, and you won't run out of it for a while, what with it running for 221 episodes plus a movie and some specials. Even more if you include the Equestria Girls spinoff. Seasons 1-8 are on Netflix, season 9 on Hulu.

Gonna also recommend Ducktales reboot. I tried it a couple of months ago out of boredom and ended up binging the first two seasons in about a week and a half. It's really good, with a really good cast.

So yesterday evening I could check out two of the shows recommended in this thread: The Owl House and Harley Quinn.

I watched 3 episodes of The Owl House. It's good, I liked the school stuff in the third episode. But I think it lacks something compared to other similar shows I liked, maybe a bit of charm? I'm very early in the season though, and they're obviously still setting everything up. I definitely like it enough to continue watching. We'll see what happens.

As for Harley Quinn, this thing is a riot!! Wow, I was not expecting this. I usually really dislike comic book and superhero stuff, but this show is great! I love it, I couldn't stop laughing! I think I must have binged more than half of the first season before calling it a night.

Thanks for all the recommendations! And please keep them coming, I'm definitely building a list of must-watch shows.

Batman The Brave and the Bold is sillier than some of those shows, but it has a lot of heart and is a really fun show that doesn't get as much credit as some other DC properties.

Owl House takes off once the setting changes. Also, you only just got introduced to Amity, who is the breakout character of the show
