Just curious where people fall on this.

I use just a little bit, and I put berries in it (raspberries are my go-to, but strawberries are fine too) alongside some cinnamon.

Basically this is my type of oatmeal:

Hell naw!

Butter, salt, and black pepper for breakfast, but the real answer is cheese and shrimp.

Shrimp, Sausage, Green Onion, Butter & Cream

Eggs over-easy, salt, pepper, & butter.
Cheese for when I used to eat catfish.

I'm for everyone doin things their own way and reserving judgement and all that, but what is this nonsense.

Sugar is for cream of wheat.

That poll makes no sense, all civilized people do salt, pepper and butter (maybe even cheese if you're feeling fancy)

Never tried sweet grits, but I wouldn't be averse to it. Another thread of people overreacting to food stuff.

Naw.
Personally, I save the sweet stuff for Oatmeal.
Grits are a savory venture.
A little salt, butter, pepper. Get some eggs and sausage up in there. Sop it up with some toast or a biscuit.
That's the good stuff right there.

In my house:
  • Butter + Sugar (often brown sugar) is for Cream of Wheat.
  • Butter + Salt & Pepper + cheese is for Grits.
I'll not accept another answer.

I don't eat grits often, but when I do, I put sugar in them. So...yes.

I've yet to have savory grits, despite the fact that my grandmother loves them.

here
you need to commit to sweet or savory grits early in the grit making process if you want really good sweet or savory grits

Salt, butter, pepper, cheese, Shrimp, bacon, onions.

These are acceptable grits mixins.

I've never had sweet grits but something like cream and honey + berries sounds pretty killer. Even a sweet and savory application like shrimp or bacon and cheddar grits with hot honey drizzled on top would be nice

Seeing folks overreact to food choices on the internet continues to baffle me. Food is not some sacred institution, eat whatever you want

Sugar in grits sounds absolutely disgusting, and I refuse to try them that way.

I keep them savory: butter, salt, pepper, and cheese if I have any shredded cheddar on hand. Throw your scrambled eggs in there too.

I mean, I grew up with kids eating sweet grits for breakfast. Was never my thing but some people do eat them that way!
Kids add sugar to everything. That's just what they do because their taste palettes are super basic and they don't like really salty or spicy things. No reasonable adult is adding sugar to their grits lol

I haven't done it in a while since I had sweet grits, but I liked them as a kid. I'm team sweet or savory.
