Everywhere I go on the internet is just endless complaining and Pokemon is dead and beating down these devs, but I was just curious as to how many are older players like me coming back and don't really see anything wrong?

I played and collected 151 Pokemon in Blue on my Gameboy in.. 98? When I was 11/12. I figured the natural progression and sequel would be, "3D' and on the Nintendo 64 and on my TV, but we never got it until now.

Now there are what.. a COUPLE HUNDRED of these things? Graphics that.. really look like any current anime style game. I guess I can sympathize with some people who have kept up with the series not being happy with the devs for not having every single Pokemon, just not to the point of this outrage. But for me at least, Pokemon in 3D, on a home console, on my TV. It's all I ever wanted from a Pokemon game after Blue.

Several hundred of these things just sounds like insanity. I can't imagine double that number or whatever it is people were expecting.

I'm not that upset about the culling of some pokemon. But it does seem that there is some stuff to criticize with the games, so I wouldn't say I don't see anything wrong.

It's disappointing as a fan and there's absolutely fair criticism.

The more toxic comments are an unfortunate byproduct.

Me. This game seems to be everything I want out of a Pokemon game.

I'm not a die-hard fan. I played red/blue and gold/silver when they came out. I didn't touch Pokemon again until black/white and then x/y. I'm looking forward to sword/shield. The changes don't bother me, I'll play the game, have a good time and then be done with it. I was more worried with let's go Pikachu, as why I skipped it.

I mean even me, a pretty hardcore Pokémon fan, knows there are some things clearly wrong with the game, but most of them have been long carried from old Pokémon games anyway. I'm pretty sure that even with the problems it's going to be the most enjoyable Pokémon experience so far.

People are pissed off at the new games because a hell of a lot more than just missing pokemon:

You last played the series ~20 years ago. Of course a jump from that to a system orders of magnitude more powerful is going to color your perception

I'm hyped for it, can't wait to play it Friday, but hey I like the art style and I don't really care about the cuts EVEN the GTS, but a lot of people of course do and so they are upset, hopefully next installment will get it right for everyone.

There are a lot of idiots with really dumb axes to grind that undermine people with legitimate criticisms of the leaked information and Gamefreak's design trends.

The "dexit" thing isn't even in the top 10 things to complain about here.

The toxic Pokemon fanbase honestly makes me not want to ever try getting back into Pokemon. I want nothing to do with any of these assholes that feel so entitled.

Well, I personally don't care about the Dex cuts, but I do understand why people are upset, they want to bring their old friends with them. And that's okay.

I never really had a good eye for graphics, I played XC2 99% on handheld, which according to some is literally unplayable, so it doesn't really bother me. I'm really excited about Sword and Shield. The Wild Areas? Great! Dynamax/Gigantamax? Sure! Currydex? Fantastic!

...except for TRs. That's gonna be annoying as fuck lol

The fanbase is being stupid as shit but I'm not sure "hey, it's 3d and looks not terrible graphic wise" is selling your premise very well OP.

Your low bar to clear basically sounds like "is a video game made in 2019"

Just finished Pokémon Moon recently. Never did GTS, battled online a couple times with friends, never tried to collect them all or transfer Pokémon through Bank, so the whole missing Pokédex stuff doesn't mean too much to me.

Excited for getting Shield on Friday :-)

I am in the "Wow there's actually a lot to criticize here but fuck most of these people losing their minds" camp.

Same here. The game looks like pretty much what you'd expect from the first HD outing of the people that made X/Y and SM. I'm not even getting the game, but there's some ridiculous criticisms that make me think people are just piling on without realizing that some of this stuff is either improvements over the 3DS games, or things that are kind of normal for RPGs.

...except for TRs. That's gonna be annoying as fuck lol

And even then it is a win some, lose some kind of thing. There's a bunch of other aspects that are going to be much easier at getting ready for competitive play.

This is the first Pokemon I'm not getting, at least day one. Sun and Moon burned me, and this one sounds like it has gone through development hell. I don't even give a shit about Dexit. It's a mix of lack of innovation, horrible graphical and code problems, and the ridiculous price point for what kind of "babbys first RPG" this game is offering. Get Gamefreak's shit together, Nintendo.

edit: to be fair I DID have this pre-ordered, but watching everything crash and burn after streams and the datamine made me cancel my pre-order this morning

What is there to get excited about? Practically all of the news I've heard about it has been bad, and even the few things I've heard that aren't "this thing that was in the older games has been removed" don't look cool or interesting in the slightest.

I'm not mad about it, I just don't... care. Certainly not enough to pay $60 USD.

Man I hope the peeps at GameFreak are taking a break from the internet especially since most of them dont really have determining says in the games development.

People should remember that

This is going to be a very interesting "ResetEra bubble" test.

I'm with you - game freak is a known quantity at this point, never really demonstrating vast technical competency. And people are suprised/outraged when it's what Pokemon always has been - a reliable if somewhat underwhelming comfort food meal. Between the scope of let's go and this one, it's super obvious that they are stretched thin dealing with HD development, similar to many other Japanese console developers circa 2007-ish. At this point 20 odd years later people should understand that Pokemon is never going to get a dramatic technical re-invention, especially as game freak currently goes through their own messy transition to HD.

I see a lot of changes and content cut for no good reason. Outrage seems justified given you are getting less for $60 than you did for $40.

I am sad that basically all starts were cut but ... just that

Like they could have added like 50 more pokes and I would be 100% fine

I am someone who does not care at all about all this shit on a personal level. Totally casual Pokemon fan, but was huge into it when I was 8 and Red/Blue came out.

That being said, come on what is the point of this thread. You are putting on blinders to legitimate criticism (some of which, yes, is being completely fucking overblown) if you say "there is absolutely nothing wrong with this game at release."

I'd say it's doing plenty "wrong", or at least plenty worth complaining about. But it'll also probably be fun like the others.

I (don't) give two fucking shits about any of the complaints.

I haven't touched a Pokemon game since Red and Pokemon Snap and I am super excited for this.

Not reading any leaks either cuz fuck leaks.

This seems like a reactionary thread response that probably doesn't behoove us to constructive dialogue...

But I'm basically of this sentiment:

I am in the "Wow there's actually a lot to criticize here but fuck most of these people losing their minds" camp.

I'm going to go on an adventure in a new world to explore with six new Pokemon to raise and grow. Obviously there's some bummers in the development path, but I'm excited to once again start a new Pokemon journey.

Big sales mean the suits in charge are more expected to display altruism in regards to development output, or something? Mostly its a Pokemon game that looks like a Pokemon game like most people expected which is going to be a good or bad thing.

I don't know much about Pokemon so I don't know really understand the outrage. I feel like a bunch of different Pokemon will be good. Like, now you can find a new fave? I think there will be a Modern_Warfare2_boycott_list dot jpg situation. There's no way pokemon fans are going to miss this game.

I don't think it can really be argued at this point. There were undoubtedly a lot of roadblocks in the development of these games.

It seems like GF tried to approach HD development without adjusting their dev time, resources, or manpower in any significant way. As a result, we have a content starved entry in the franchise that, once again, takes a few steps forward but a bunch of steps back (removal of GTS, dex cuts, etc.).

The wild area in particular just seems woefully underdeveloped. It'll be interesting to see what the resolution is in that part of the game.

Like all games, if it doesn't have the features you want, you should just not buy it and play something else instead.

The constant toxicity around games that turn out to not be what fans envisioned in their heads is dragging the gaming community down. We should be shaming these people for pulling this crap.

Speaking as someone who eagerly looks forward to the games...

...I still fail to see how anybody who is keeping up with all the info can possibly not see anything to criticize here. There's plenty.

Yep. If I were a hardcore player, I'd be more concerned, but as someone who just plays the campaign and never does much else afterwards, the game looks fine to me.

tbh I can't see how anyone can look at how things pop in within like a 10 meter radius and not see something wrong.

I'm so tired of this shit and I'll be glad when I'll have the game and shut everything off. Gamefreak deserves some criticism but every gen brings endless complaining and bitching whatever happens and this time, its outrage after outrage and people are just being ridiculous about it.

As a latecomer to enjoying Pokemon games (XY), I view them as charming and innocuous fun, including SS, with enough to do on the side and postgame like breeding, etc. to give it legs and be a nice complement to the TCG, which I also enjoyed for a bit, but not in any serious way. Just like the games.

Why is the that the people who claim the criticism is overblown also often tend to say things like "I haven't played Pokemon since Gen 1-3"?
