6 years.

Assuming 2 years of dev time for each episode.

This is also assuming that there's only 3 episodes.

Fuck.

Over 10 years. There will be three games and three to four years of development per game, add development delays and remaster delays to get the old episodes up to par with the new consoles.

This is assuming they don't lose interest and endlessly delay other episodes until it gets quietly canceled a decade from now.

Quicker than many fear since they can reuse a lot between games like character models and the battle system. I think 4-5 years for 3 games.

Going episodic right before the new consoles... kinda feel like I'll just wait until Scarlett/PS5 launch, and then grab it at that point.

At least 4 years. They have already the characters, the battle systems and all the main core systems in place in order to produce contents quickly and efficiently. Once the foundation is set, it's only a matter of manpower in order to produce the other games, so I'm confident.

As soon as the sales decrease they will quickly rap it up and move on.

So I would say its all done by 2026

I'm going to say 5 years. I'm expecting 3 games with the gap between 1 and 2 being the longest at 3 years.

I said under 4 but it could be more like 5. I feel like the only big hurdle production-wise after Part 1 is doing an open world, and once that's accomplished I feel like it should be relatively smooth sailing.

If the first game is only midgard, And they announced that 4 years ago. Then they are defintely going to need to make 2 more games, and most likely those game are gonna have to be even bigger. So I'm betting it's 10+ years.

Future games won't be as time-consuming to produce

They've got all the character models, rigging, battle systems, materia systems, etc etc all built

So at this point it's environmental art, cutscenes, specific events or minigames, and whatever they're going to do with the overworld. It'll take time, but once that first one launches, the demand for the continuation will be such that they'll be on a train they can't stop.

Climate change will consume the planet and kill us all before we get to see the end of this game.

Midgar, With Love
They're probably aiming to launch a new one every two years and ~four parts total. It remains to be seen whether or not that's feasible.

If we get an episode every 2 years I think they can finish it within a decade. Think the game will be 4-5 parts.

I mean if this first episode is only Midgard, then obviously it's going to take them more than 10 more years

<edit> and it looks like ERA is smart regarding this matter, looking at the poll results. Square are incompetent when it comes to time management and creep
