Hi everyone, here on ResetEra, I have learned we all care a lot about the developers, and don't want to punish them. As a result, I am sure we are all going to be buying, supporting, and playing the following games:

BATTLEFIELD 5

... wait, sorry, what's that? You won't? Why not? Why are you punishing the hundreds of developers who worked on the games for the decisions of just a few? Not every developer at BioWare decided to use the Frostbite Engine. Why are you punishing them? Not every developer at Bethesda Austin wanted to make Fallout 76, why punish them? Not every developer at Blizzard supported working on a mobile game, or showcasing it at BlizzCon, why punish all of them? No, no, we can't punish all developers, so we must buy and spend money on all of these games. We don't want to needlessly punish innocent developers now, do we?

Wait, what's that? Oh, that's right, you won't buy them, because you don't want to buy them. But a publisher boosting and supporting and linking to child porn, you'll still buy their games, because you don't want to hurt all the innocent developers working on the games for the actions of a few executives.

Who the fuck do you actually think you are kidding? Have some respect for the intelligence of others and just flat out say you don't care about issues like pedophilia or nazism to not want to buy a game you were interested in, I'd at least have some respect for your honesty if nothing else then. You're not choosing to buy THQN games now because you "don't want to hurt innocent developers", give me a fucking break, you're buying their games because you were interested in buying them, and you won't let the publisher being a vile entity that endorsed pedophilia get in the way of that, because you lack the moral fortitude to have some actual priorities.

And that's okay. I mean, it's not okay, it's terrible, but at least have the decency to be honest about it. Rather than not having any decency at all.

Not condoning THQ, but not buying a good game because a major fuck up from pr/executives is a whole lot different from not buying Fallout 76 because it sucks and is buggy as fuck.

What a clickbaity and confusing thread. While I'm sure hypocrisy exists your whole thread seemingly relies on a strawman.

I wanted say this same thing yesterday, but what's the fucking point anymore. 'Gamers' only give a flying fuck about making a 'stand' when EA/Ubisoft/MTX are involved, but kiddie porn and pedophiles?

Who's got time to be bothered by that? They've got some stupid fucking toys to play with.

Yeah, difference between boycotting a game over politics and not buying a game because it doesn't appeal to you like the former games of said developer did.

Not wanting to punish developers for the sins of their PR department is a lot different from not wanting to punish developers for making a bad game.

to imagine that you're making this big moral judgement when you decide where you spend your money... christ alive.

As a game developer myself, I'd feel disgusted to be used as a shield / hostage by a publisher to prevent people from boycotting them for the kind of shit THQ did. Feel bad for the developers for having their games associated with a publisher that redefines vile, not because you're not giving the publisher money the devs won't be seeing anyway.

You do know that the defensive play is that they'll act like you're going overboard while ignoring the OP which points out how dumb of an argument it is?

Just be ready

you do realize that a ton of folks, including myself are more than rightfully concerned for the devs involved because THQ is a publisher and publisher only? They don't develop games themselves. The dev teams they publish physical games for have nothing to do with them most of the time. I love Black Forest Games and stuff like Giana for instance, but THQ publishes the physical versions of some of their titles despite having no dev involvement. I'm pissed off at the whole situation and will absolutely not let them forget it, but I'd also want to support BFG and other devs like that since they do make good work and have better morals than those who caused THQ's disaster of a PR this week.

Threads like this that come off as very unhinged or sensitive towards a view that's not the same as the post of a thread are why this site gets mocked on the internet at times and I really wish people here would stop this so we can focus on actual issues like THQ's PR disaster, instead of mocking folks who are worried about the Devs they work with BECAUSE of their awful disaster

It is kind of true that the community seems to care more about immaterial decisions than actual immoral reprehensible ones. Even on Era there was more energy put into opposing Sony's stance on Crossplay than a publisher publicly endorsing an alt right child porn website.

Haven't the developers already been paid for their work, anyway? Or is part of it withheld until they meet a level of performance?
