Only back compat. Both consoles can only play Next gen native games on internal (or expanded/card storage).

That's super strange considering the support video that came out yesterday:
At 1:23: "We highly recommend storing your PlayStation 4 games on an extended storage device to free up your SSD for PlayStation 5 games that require it."
Something doesn't sound right.

This is how I intended to use my 1TB SSD, as a sort of hot swap backup. Any news on how fast a 50gb-ish game copies over?

IGN appears to be the outlier here, everyone else I've seen has said Sony disabled this feature (at least in the pre-release firmware)

That's for completely backing up your entire console and restoring it, sadly. IGN is just wrong I'm afraid.
Yeh this makes sense, since I don't think any (many) hdds/ssds have been tested to play ps5 games.
It's not about playing ps5 games on them. It's about cold storage.
Until this is cleared up.

This definitely seems like something that could be patched in later yeah?
It's not a solution; it's a workaround. And I wasn't complaining.
Probably, but Sony tends to drag their feet on features. This is needed asap, imo. Unless new games are dramatically lower in size, which considering the 100gb blurays i doubt hard.
