Folks, how should oppressed groups interact around here?
As a specific example, a conversation got heated in the sexualized designs in gaming thread.
Asian ERA explained how they felt disrespected by some of the conversation & why. And it makes sense; on a predominantly white, American forum there is a power differential where certain comments add to their oppression.
But then one person got caught up in it, and she wasn't from a privileged group - so there's no power there to exacerbate systemic oppression by herself.
Similarly, some people tried to stoke animosity between black people and Asians on this forum as a direct result of the gruesome attacks on Asian-Americans.
So here's the point: We're probably going to have to have conversations with one another. Whether it's supporting each other, or explaining our own experiences. How tf do we do that appropriately? Do we address it here at all? Do we ever address it, or just hope these things work themselves out?
