"The Nintendo Switch's Home Menu is a piece of crap, all of the shitty gigantic game icons are lined up in a row, but the rest of the games are tossed into a trash can called 'All Games'… I wonder have they (the people that made the menu) ever played the Nintendo fan boys' Switch?"

I personally think it is bare but functional.

Correct.

3 years later and it still feels like something cobbled together to make launch

I wouldn't go that far, but it is cetainly barebones. It needs improvement.

Like, how the hell does it not have themes yet? The 3DS had them. I want my red and blue Super Mario theme, goddamn it!

Oh man this is hilarious given the "who has the worst UI" debate from a couple of days ago

I don't understand what could be better about it, based on that quote. A list instead of icons maybe?

After having suffered through the *REAL* piece of crap that was the WiiU operating system, I prefer barebones but fast over slow and unresponsive.

I love its look and feel, but it needs more options for sure. I also wish Nintendo would have an iron grip on developers to make proper home icons. Resident Evil 4 has an icon that is just two characters, no title or logo and then the System text reads "resident evil 4" and yes, that's not a typo on my part, they didn't even use capital letters. It looks like I'm playing on an emulator with its ROM selection sometimes.

Also, yeah, not having a 1080p mode and 720p mode for the UI is really wtf. Looks bad on the TV.

It needs so much customisation. It's a nightmare if you have so many games on it. I like the look of the UI in general but it's so barebones.

I believe it could be better. When you put the cursor over a game, you can't see the dlc or other information of the game, as manual.
THE BIG PROBLEM however is the lack of themes...

It's amazing it's had no feature improvements Since launch. No themes, no folders, no docked resolution upgrades.

Nah, it's got the games I'm actively playing. Don't need anything else.

PS: any "improvement" of a UI ends up in a cluttered unintuitive mess. Either stick to the original design or if you need new features then do a complete redesign. Half measures are always bad

I can appreciate that it's responsive and I like being able to look at a wall of big art, but it is pretty barebones for something that's been on the market 3 years. It's based on the 3DS OS, right? They could definitely get some basics like folders and themes in there with the processing and memory resources available.

It's not great, but fixable with folders. It's still surprising that nearly three years into switch this hasn't been implemented

I quite like the minimalistic approach. Never understood those who need animated PS4 themes that slow the menus down

the UI is really basic and needs a lot of work, I don't see an issue

Does what it needs to do. Don't really mind what it looks like. Could it look cleaner? Sure, but to me, it isn't really necessary.

Can't believe we still can't skin the UI. Nintendo should be better than this.

resident evil 4 has always been displayed in all lower case though, including the logo on the box.

He's not wrong, though that applies to most of the UI. Like the eshop shouldn't still be this bad almost three years after launch.

The UI is snappy but that's about it. Generally speaking, the OS/platform is bare bones with a serious lack of features.

No folders, no messaging functionality, no party chat, groups/communities - feels like nothing has changed since launch in March 2017.

"B-b-but muh snappy tho"
I love the fact that I can resume a game that I was previously playing within literally 4 seconds

I'm trying to play TPHD on the Wii U now and it just sucks if i'm not feeling it cause I know i'll have to boot up the system -- boot up the game -- load into the game just to start; what else does the Switch need? It needs themes for sure, but what else? Voice chat/messaging ain't happening now, give up on it.

Nintendo consoles for me are probably the least social online anyway, offline it's the most social; i'm not defending them in anyway but I guess i'm saying that I don't really care anymore and i'm happy with what it has which is ignorant of me of course.

It literally just needs be the xbox One's installed games screen.

same, there were times I didn't play because I didn't feel like waiting for the loading. While I wish they did a little more, I'm happy enough having one system I can turn on and play without waiting forever for something to load.
