It's incredible to me that you could even present this and think "yeah I'm contributing to a discussion in good faith" because this is not even close to "it," my dude.

Cancel culture can be very toxic and have big negative effects on vulnerable people.
But this ain't it, chief. Etika had much deeper issues. Was he even "cancelled" to begin with?

Ouch... this is gonna get ugly.
MatPat, my dude, if you're reding this: I've never seen one of your videos. I can't stand your voice. Oh! And this is a dangerous opinion.

Wow this is shameless. Armchair psychology about something as serious as suicide is not okay. Not a good tribute to Etika and not something MatPat should have done.

What happened with Etika (before his suicide) that would make him think "cancel culture" was to blame?

Ooooooooooooooooooooh, MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

What the FUCK, MATPAT!? WHAT THE FUCK!!!

USING SOMEBODIES SUICIDE AS A WAY TO DECRY FUCKING CANCEL CULTURE!?!?

Holy shit, I didn't like MATPAT for a variety of reasons, but this one takes the Fucking cake.

He can never live this down, this is infamous. This and game theory should be the two things that define him and his existence on earth. That's the least he deserves.

Fucking CANCELED.

Absolutely disgusting. That is such a shitty thing to say. MatPat should keep his shitty theories to his videos on games and movies.

Etika wasn't even really cancelled and this seems really shitty overall, but then again this dude plagiarizes content and defended pewdiepie, so maybe he has a horse in the race

I've been saying for years that Matpat sucks and comes up with some of the dumbest fucking conclusions imaginable, but this is just disgusting. What a piece of shit.

He posted porn on YouTube, they had no choice but to remove his channel.

He posted extremely homophonic stuff on Twitter, again, they took him down.

Etika self sabotaged, it was his own demons that got to him, not his critics.

I'm vaguely skeptical of cancel culture insofar as it seems that (over-) 'individualizing' these problematic elements actively prevents any kind of systematic analysis of the conditions that produce them.

That said, Matpat is now, rightfully, asking us to cancel him.

This MatPat fella seems like a dim bulb at best.

Why reward his godawful behavior by directly linking to his twitter. Just post a screenshot.

What happened with Etika (before his suicide) that would make him think "cancel culture" was to blame?

People ignored obvious signs and chose to hound him over having empathy resulting in a person in clear mental distress deteriorating further with no one aside from his ex trying to get him help.

etikas death was more to do with mental health issues but considering how this community reacted towards etikas death idk.

Etika's death was not because of cancel culture. Tons of Etika's friends reached out to him when they thought he needed help, more so were blocked than others because they were actually trying to help. On top of that, Etika was always over the top and full of energy ready to burst and have fun, joke around etc. That was always Etika on camera, so when he was acting the way he was towards end of his life (R.I.P man, I'll always miss your entertainment), people thought it was a part of a plan towards an ongoing joke. Instead, a ton of people were wrong and thought he was attention seeking. No one was "cancelling" Etika, at all. So many people reached out and so many people tried to help him, but he didn't want anyone's help unfortunately.
This presentation title is wrong and MatPat should feel bad about it.

(edit)
To add on to this, people were spamming clown emojis and what not on his livestreams, videos and tweets. That's correct and I don't want to take away the negative impact of those actions, but that is not the definition of "cancel culture". They would have had to really talk about negative things that Etika "was doing" and call him out for doing those "things", along with demanding justice and for those "actions" to end. That didn't happen, therefore it wasn't cancel culture. I just want to point that out.

I have a few issues with cancel culture (though I must admit I don't know that much about it), but Etika's suicide has nothing to do with it and this is a pretty dangerous and dumb statement to make.

Etika was never cancelled though, so that doesnt make any sense whatsoever. He acted insane and had haters because of that. but it also belied deeper mental issues with himself.

He had tons of issues long before he started acting out which was just a symptom of his mental issues...which was actually very close to the time he took his own life

There's a discussion to be had concerning how people attacked Etika despite of his obvious mental issues and self-destructive behavior but still using what happened to him for your own agenda is gross.

1. Im on mobile rn so screenshotting and then uploading and then linking is just more work than I care to do

2. Genuinely curious how linking his tweet is rewarding him? I'm happy to comply with screenshot later on, still curious though.

What is cancel culture?

Basically when someone with a huge following like a celebrity does something or says something either recently or a while ago that is controversial and as a result, people basically unfollow them and boycott whatever they are involved in.

Like what happened with James Gunn or Kevin Hart. Dave Chapelle did a Netflix special on cancel culture. But I honestly don't see the link between Etika's suicide and cancel culture so this comes off as very tone deaf by MatPat

This post basically nails it.

We still miss you, Etika. This upcoming Direct won't feel the same without you. Also, fuck you, MatPat.

So like, yeah cancel culture is a bit of a thing. Not a fan of it myself. There's discussions to be had about that.

But this...

This is a straight up trash fire. Tactless.

a lot of people turned on him after some of the stuff he did. many at the time thought he was doing it for other reasons beyond mental health and went after him. many people on this board bashed him for the same reasons.

The Algorithm can't tell the difference between positive or negative engagement. So if someone tries to 'ratio' him they're just helping his numbers. Same for direct quote-tweets/retweets. This is why it's often preferred to simply post a screenshot and comment on it, so that they are not rewarded for moments of trolling or direct stupidity.

No, MatPat. Etika was never a victim of cancel culture. He was a victim of internet culture on a broader scale.

Fuck anyone who complains about "cancel culture." It's just more "fuck you got mine, don't take mine" bullshit that fails to see the gravity of a situation.

Jesus Christ.

Cancel culture isn't even a real thing. Just something abusers made up to pretend they're the true victims.

Considering recent events, this is terrible timing and quite disrespectful. Not only that, but also the fact that "cancel culture" didn't have much to do with Etika's death.

Im saying people critisizing him wasnt the reason for those issues. it was the reverse. It was in reaction to those issue he had, those same issues that contributed to his taking his own life.

Telling people not to have an adverse reaction to someone being insane in front of them makes no real sense whatsoever. In addition many people were actually worried for his mental state then, which were proven to be correct worries.

Etika is a complicated issue and whose homophobia people handwave and justify as just being "mental illness" and was rightfully shat on for it. He deserved every bit of pushback from that. But the problem there lies in that he wasn't mentally stable enough to be a online personality in the first place, and should have been deplatformed before it ever got that far.

But, yknow, Matpat, the man who gave Undertale as a gift to the fucking Pope is an amazing judge of character and events.

Funny how people here are saying no one "cancelled" him. But this forum did exactly that during his breakdown on Twitter.
