So I got a new laptop: https://www.amazon.com/HP-17-inch-i7-7500U-GeForce-17-u110nr/dp/B07146FY5V

I have a steam account but have never used it (actually I played a bit of Doki Doki Literature Club the other day). I want to get some more PC games but am not really sure how to tell if this thing can run anything decently or not. Is there a test to run on the laptop itself? Do i need to read all of the requirements for each game?

I would also like to use either my DS4 or 8bitdo SN30 Pro and I don't know if that is possible and if it is how to make it happen.

Also, I've been a Playstation person since it arrived and I currently own a PS4 and a Switch so if there are any must have PC games that I have missed out on please let me know. I am interested in every genre. Oh, and I would be interested in GamePass if this laptop can handle stuff that is coming out or has just come out. I really want to play the new Blair Witch game.

Thanks.

Your best bet for finding out what will run for laptops is googling something like Nvidia 940mx + game name (and maybe add in the CPU, i7-7500u). You will usually find someone testing it out with a video or writing on a forum. I don't know if you're gonna get too much out of a 940mx these days, it was kind of weak even when it debuted 3 or 4 years ago. Don't know if I see something like Blair Witch running well.

DS4s work via bluetooth, you just need to get an adapter if your laptop doesn't have it natively, or just by USB cable. Not sure about the other one. You'll want to go into Steam and make sure you've got DS4 support toggled on (I think it should do it automatically the first time you connect it either way). There's alternatives like the application DS4Windows, which you might want if you ever bother with Game Pass.

I really hope your Amazon link is just to show the specs and you didn't pay 1200 dollars for that.

OP, I think that GPU can maybe run Fallout New Vegas...
Dang it. I thought that might be the case. Thanks.

Alright, I'll try that. Thanks.

Not great, OP.

I'd recommend just playing these games on GeForce Now (free for the beta) till you can get a better setup.

Not sure that GPU can run a ton of graphically intensive games. I recently purchased a laptop with an RTX 2070 and can run just about anything on high to ultra settings. You might want to step up the GPU a bit if you want to run anything a bit more graphically intensive. I had to pay a pretty penny and realize I could get a much cheaper desktop, but I needed a laptop for work so I figured why not. What's your budget, OP? You may want to consider stepping it up a bit.

Did you buy this laptop new from the store? Specs and design are kind of dated... You can do sooo much better for $1200.
