Physical version of Last Guardian runs at 60 FPS on PS5; digital version runs at 30

That's because the PS5 is able to read the Speed Ridges™ on the physica disc, similar to how record players work.
That's weird, I was under the assumption that the patches would be identical between physical and digital.

You can also get the Digital Edition to run at 60 fps if you download V1.0 from the servers... *shrug*

They would be. Presumably there is a patch that added s frame rate cap which you can prevent the update happening with a physical version, but not if you have a digital version.
You realize how easy and is likely this would be for Sony to patch right?
Original version is missing HDR and some controller tweaks.
Probably some bug fixes too.

This is a game that didn't have an unlocked frame rate on the PS4 or Pro as far as I know. Virtually locked 60 FPS. Someone hold me! Edit:

There's already workarounds to get the digital version to 1.00 anyway, so physical/digital doesn't really have an impact, but yeah they should release a patch regardless
Bingo. The physical version is purely analog. That's also why the physical game has a warmer, more lifelike, sound. It needs to be cleaned, but at least it's not as lifeless as the digital version.
AFAIK the game can be finished on V1.0 (I believe the reviewers did so). I finished it before 1.03 came out and found it fine other than frame drops in outdoor areas.

This, is the voice of reason (at the least the patch should detect the hardware and determine limit based on it)
They likely applied framerate limits to prevent wild fluctuations (this can impact input latency, frame pacing and cause tearing as a result)
