It's a well known fact that Americans by a large percent don't travel abroad. Part or most of the reason for that is North American continent being an ocean away from most popular destinations so flights out of the country usually start at $800 unlike Europeans and Asians who can fly around to the best spots for much cheaper.

Well now a credit agency allows you to make a 3,6, or 12 month payment plan for your trip. several sites offer the Affirm payment option after you pick your flight. I use this one

Not sure how many already knew about this but I just learned and it changed a lot in my life lol. So I would feel guilty if I didn't spread the gospel a bit.

Absolutely terrible idea. I mean if you can't put it on a CC put off the trip or drive or consider alternate options.

Imagine having awesome memories from a trip only to be burdened by depression based debt from interest and having to pay off said trip.

How is this different than just using a credit card?

/Edit - oh, 30% APR? Lmao... Advertiser thread?

OP I hope you are prepared for that 30% APR

Why wouldn't you just put it on a credit card instead and get the cashback and/or miles?

This is honestly terrible financial advice unless there's something I'm missing

30% APR?
what Americans desperately need is more vacation time and to actually get out and see the world. This is an extremely insular and overworked country
Putting yourself in debt just to go on a vacation is a terrible idea especially if you can't even afford your own plane ticket.

"PSA: You can now also participate in a horrible scam to put yourself in tons of debt, but also have a brief holiday"

30% APR is wild

Well I guess my situation is very specific. I can't take out another card with a limit that high, but I can afford to repay the loan for this

This isn't a payment plan it's a short term loan and a ripoff. Payment plans would be letting you pay off the ticket in advance in smaller payments like how layaway works with no interest.

Another card with a limit that high? No offence but if you've already got a credit card and can't afford a holiday on that you should probably focus on paying it off a bit rather than going to a loanshark "short term loan" website and building up further debt.

Taking on debt to go on vacation isn't something I'd ever recommend.

Same. Instead of taking on debt and paying installments and risk being screwed if you lose your job or some financial hardship happens, just put that money in savings and buy the flights when you have enough saved up for them and the lodging and other expenses.

It's the same principle of putting money toward travel in chunks, but without the risk. Besides, the people I k ow who don't travel are either dirt poor with little disposable income and can't afford it via either method or people who just don't like long trips (many of whom are wealthy and can easily afford it).

Why in the world would anyone seriously want to take on debt for a vacation?

Maybe you should focus on ending your current debts instead of creating new ones.

Also this shit isn't adding up. If you can afford to pay off a 30% APR loan then why the fuck do you even need that loan in the first place?

lol this isn't going well

This works well in my Country. But it really applies to anything. You can buy plane tickets, furniture, clothing whatever you need in installments, but they dont charge any interest. You only get interest if you are past due on your bills.
I bought tickets to London and paid them in three installments at not extra charge.

Is this an advertisement? This shit is predatory as hell. I'm expecting a "more people should try payday loans!" Thread next.

Well this thread didn't go well.

Anyway, OP, I hope this gives you the freedom to vacation more in your budget, though... might not be the best financial product for everyone ... or you :)

In most cases, your average credit card, especially an airline endorsed credit card would probbaly give you the best rates and perks for airline travel, over a financial product like this which looks to have a very high interest rate attached to it.

If you don't have enough remaining balance on your credit card for travel, you shouldn't be getting a loan at 10-15% more APR to pay for it.

That's insanity. Flights, regardless of where you travel to usually don't even exceed 30% of the total trip cost if traveling alone and going away for more than a week.

Maybe if it was a much lower percentage, but 30% APR is above any of my credit cards. I guess it could help if you don't have a CC with a decent limit, but you're better off dumping it on a rewards/travel card.

Yeah, echoing the room here that paying for flights over time on 10% to especially 30% APR seems like a huge fucking ripoff. Unless a vacation is going to make or break your personal well-being, you absolutely should not do this. Your credit card probably has better interest rates than that. If it was like 0% APR over 12-months, then maybe this would be an okay suggestion, but at what I'm seeing offered on these sites, lol naw.

You can make payments on cruises in the US without paying any interest at all. My wife and I have been paying on one for a year now. Adding extras (unlimited food plan/off ship excursions) whenever we want as the year goes on, etc.

That's how the plane tickets should work.

Granted, the cruises are usually planned well ahead....but one would think really expensive flights out of the US would be planned ahead too.

Opening to the world and travelling more sound like a good idea.

What it doesn't sound like a good idea is doing stuff you cannot afford.

Is this true though? we are very close to the Caribbean islands and Central/South America.
