This is going to only hasten the balkanization of the world wide web. We don't need more countries adopting China style Great Fire Walls.

As for us us citizens I wonder how this will change our usage if we don't successfully block this with lawsuits.

While Politico was the first to report how the draft was being circulated by the White House, CNN notes that if put into effect, "the order would reflect a significant escalation by President Trump in his frequent attacks against social media companies over an alleged but unproven systemic bias against conservatives by technology platforms. And it could lead to a significant reinterpretation of a law that, its authors have insisted, was meant to give tech companies broad freedom to handle content as they see fit."

i miss when the internet was owned by the people.
Let's be mindful it was always owned by the us government and the rest of the world sort of trusted us to primarily control the infrastructure with the only push back was for the creation of the international consortium.

If the Trump admin isn't satisfied with how this executive order doesn't work manipulating the consortium while the world has shifted more towards the right is possible. Hopefully they don't think of it.

Take note, lefties. Use these precedents to hobble right-wing media. Isolate and demonize them. Label them the terrorist sympathizers they are. Stop pretending Trump's cultists are here to follow rules and play fair. These fascists only understand the raw application of power against their interests.

So conservatives are attempting to do to social media what they did to traditional media over the last 50 years: constantly beating the drum of 'anti-consevative' bias in an attempt to weaken social media and pressure them to let the right off the hook. They succeeded with traditional media--look how far the media goes to 'both sides' any issue even when the conservative side is demonstrably wrong in every way--so why not try it again for social media?

They should.

They won't.

yes, exactly

even though social media is already very conservative (then again so is traditional media)

i find it difficult to believe that something like this would hold up to supreme court scrutiny, even if the court is stacked with conservative justices

it would basically give the executive dictatorial powers
