MS is full of shit with that 120fps jargon but it had me thinking. With them throwing out shit like 8k and the like (lol). Where does this leave the 30fps games that we're still going to get?

At this point, are ok with devs still deciding on this framerate after uncovering sufficient evidence that it might not really matter?

Me, personally, 60fps for life :)

Do you not know how closed boxes work OP?

Its not just a matter of more res or prettier graphics either. some devs will use the CPU cycles for higher FPS, some will use CPU cycles for greater immersion and physics and more lifelike worlds and such, some will use it for AI. Its all a matter of what the devs prioritize. But there will always be tradeoffs and devs will ALWAYS have to deal with that, regardless of the power of the console. Every gen its the same

Did you honestly think otherwise? Game developers will almost always choose prettier graphics over frame rate.

Frame rate is a function of how much stuff you're trying to make the hardware push. It's not a feature that improves every console generation. You will get 30 fps as long as devs choose to go for 30 fps.

Every gen...
Developers will always sacrifice 60fps for better visuals, regardless of the hardware. Is this really so hard to understand?
Also lol at that part in the conference about pushing never seen before frame-rates of up to 120fps! People have been playing at 120fps on PC for years. Not that I expect games on Scarlet to do that outside of very simplistic games.

It's up to developers how they want to make their games. It's good that console manufacturers give them the option to choose.

Yes of course. If you want 60f+fps for all games then you have to go PC. same as it always was.

you can also dismiss the 120fps stuff. nobody is gonna prioritze that on console over more efficiently using CPU cycles. they will prioritize stable 30fps or 60fps.

Who is going to target 120fps? You'll get 30fps, because audiences love spectacle, it's kinda the norm now

People talk as if absolutely every game needs to run at 60. Like someone else said performance is impacted by every little thing you want your game to do and that's not just "pretty graphics".

There's plenty of reason to want some console games to hit 30 anyway, as it will increase the ceiling for possiblity on more powerful hardware rather than reducing it to the lowest common denominator.

Of course.

Games sell in 30fps, and people want more graphics and resolutions.

The new CPU will make it much easier but it's once again up to the devs. Good news is Microsoft is also giving you the option to play Xbox games on the PC.
Both Sony and MS should mandate 60fps. You don't hit that, it doesn't get approved.

Agreed but it will never happen and Sony will be guilty of 30fps games too because they know graphics sell.

Of course.

Game design is benefitted by freedom. Many devs, when working on console hardware, would rather spend resources elsewhere than on frame rate.

everyone like "WELL DID YOU EXPECT SOMETHING DIFFERENT???" we haven't seen anything about the new console really, im expecting it to push 60 on most games.

Of course we are.

You know where to get uncompromising 60fps if you want it that badly.
