Sony is facing a lawsuit that claims it is operating an unlawful monopoly by restricting purchases of PlayStation games to the PlayStation Store.

As detailed by a Bloomberg report, the class-action lawsuit, filed by consumers, notes that by restricting digital purchases to the official PlayStation Store, Sony Interactive Entertainment are able to charge up to 175% higher than physical games sold by retailers both online and in-store. With modern games like Returnal commanding $70, you can see why people are trying to find the best deals on their games. Those who want to remain digital, however, are restricted to what Sony charges on the PlayStation Store.

Good.

The reason the digital PC market took off so well is because Valve made it so that developers/publishers on Steam can generate a neigh infinite amount of digital Steam keys for free.

Valve takes a 0% cut on these keys, and they can freely be sold at other storefronts and go on sales independent of the Steam copy.

This means the consumer can often get better deals at other places than Steam.

The thing is, this is just smart and everyone wins from it.

Consumers get better deals.

Developers/Publishers get more eyes on their game at more places = more sales.

Valve may not get any money from the sale, but they get more people on their platform and can make money from the trading cards/DLC/market place.

Just gonna crosspost to the other thread then oops.
