Yeah honestly this is lower than expected.

Supply really sucked considering the higher demand this time round.

Kitwe, Zambia.
More than PS4 is excellent but man imagine if it wasnt so supply constrained.

Is it a record 1st quarter for those of us who keep stats?

300k more than expected considering the lack of stock - congrats Sony, very strong launch especially during Covid times.

In retrospect they left a lot of money on the table by not charging $599+ for the system. Seems like they drastically underestimated demand/overestimated supply

Would have been lower than expected but given we already know about production issues, not surprising. Wonder how long it will remain a problem.

Managing to do a bit better than PS4 in the middle of a pandemic on top of foundry supply issues is impressive. Although not quite proof against the odd low yield rumor, it makes that even more harder to believe.

PS4 sales really low for the holidays and I'm not sure if its just that they've reached as much as they can with that 115m total or the combination of low stock and no sales did it as well.

I wonder how many it will be sold in a full year from release. Does anyone know how many PS4 were sold one year from released?

PS4 numbers seem low. Really seems like generations no longer having tails and just dropping off the face of the earth when the newer console comes out is going to be the norm going forward.

More details in the followup tweet:

Software up to 103.7 million in Q3 compared to 83.3.
53% digital up from 50%
47.4 PSN+ members up from 38.8 a year ago.
114m MAU across PSN.

Impressive numbers. I know people who are still hungry for that PS5.

Price is high for old hardware that is at 115 mil and "too close" to PS5 which is a huge jump in tech. Especially so for people who go with digital.

PS4Pro is really bad bang for your buck at this point.

edit: also there were like no bundles or deals for holidays for some reason this year.

PS4 is definitely the end of it's course sooner than expected. PS5 launch good - though I was expecting it to be higher after the initial word of best launch ever.

Everything else is rather amazing.
