"We've done a ton of testing on reliability, on all fronts really – and all inputs and different environmental factors and all that kind of stuff," said hardware engineer Yazan Aldehayyat. "I mean, obviously every part will fail at some point, but we think people will be very satisfied and happy with this," he added.

Designer John Ikeda backed this up, adding that Valve "purposely picked something that we knew the performance of" because "we didn't want to take a risk on that."

"I'm sure our customers didn't want us to take a risk on that either," he added.

Thank God. Nintendo sucks so hard for this drift issue. I can't believe the Switch OLED is going to continue with the issue (the joy-cons have not changed at all).

In before some people come in claiming they like the drift and it's now another reason to not get a deck.

Let's hope so. My Index controller got drift and I had to RMA it, These sticks do look like they'll be more durable at least

Hopefully, it's about time someone took the issue seriously.

Nintendo, Sony and MS sure as shit don't. Too busy making money off of it.

I mean, it's cool that they're confident, but were people really expecting that they'd say "Yeah, it's gonna drift like hell, brah."? Of course they're going to claim their product will work properly.

I don't think there's any such thing as drift free sticks. But it shouldn't be hard to make something better than Nintendo's abysmal shit sticks. I'm not worried about large sticks.

I've used one or two controllers for the life time of all the systems I've owned and none of them have ever drifted. My PS2, PS3 and PS4 controllers all work perfectly after years of (ab)use. My day-1 OLED Vita still works perfectly after gods know how many thousand hours of use. Only my joy-cons have self-destructed after less than six months of light use.

Anything can and will break. But generally I'm not worried.

Not a surprise considering how massive it is, they've got plenty of room to use larger components. It'll just have regular drift like every other controller on the market

At least there's the added benefit of using the trackpads instead.

which are superior once configured correctly as all Steam Controller fans know

Valve said nothing about the Switch here?

Clickbait? Doesn't even sound like that were alluding to it *that much* either

It's impossible to guarantee, but Jesus once it's not as awfully shitty as they joycons I'd be happy.

It won't have Switch like drift, but what about Index controller type drift?

The title is pretty misleading, they never drew a comparison to any specific hardware or issue in that quote, just that "consumers will be happy", which frankly means nothing.

Yeah, a similar interview was posted a few days ago during reveal and they mentioned they were aiming to avoid drift then too, without mentioning any consoles. The reason people were mainly concerned about it was because of the Index.

I will bet my era account that there are reports of drift within the first 6 months of release.

lol at people not reading the article. Valve didn't mention the Switch, Tom's Guide is just rolling with clickbait, and OP bit.

Tinfoil hat time:

Im convinced that the 'joycon drift' everyone has experienced with their joycons is a deadzone issue, likely at the OS level. I have PS4 controllers that exhibit no issue on the console, but when plugged into PC they have 'drifting' if I don't calibrate/increase the deadzone size. I feel like all controllers with significant use develop some amount of drift, and it could be fixed easily with an OS level deadzone.

The thing is, this is Valve. You would expect them to really take drift seriously and do their best to solve the issue unlike Nintendo.

If you did happen to get drift, and or if it was an on going problem for a significant number of people, you'd expect them to make it right.

I trust Valve when it comes to something like this, unlike Nintendo or Sony who would tell you to go f yourself.

... they did? Would be surprised if they mentioned Nintendo specifically like that.

*Reads article*

Oh of course they did not.

I'm actually shocked and think it is completely inexcusable for Nintendo to not fix the drift issue in the new revised model. Like they know it's an issue. Why didn't they come up with a solution in the remodel? To sell more joycons? Just crap.

It's one thing to say it won't have drift and another when we see it in the hands of people for usage.

Either way, we will see.

Valve: "We did lots of reliability testing with the hardware and are happy with how it turned out."

Era and Tom's Guide: "Valve ROASTS Nintendo!!!"

gr8 clickbait mate

No company would be caught dead claiming their control sticks are immune to drift.
