Tencent is close to acquiring Hong Kong based gaming holding company Leyou Technologies, according to Bloomberg, with a final deal possibly being announced this week.
Leyou Technologies is the owner of Warframe developer Digital Extremes, Gears Tactics and Dirty Bomb developer Splash Damage (who also did co-development on Gears: UE, 4 and 5 and are currently also working on the Google Stadia exclusive game Outcasters) and Athlon Games, which is a US based publishing company best known for internationally publishing Samurai Shodown and being the publisher behind the revived Telltale Games. They also own various studios in China.
Leyou will also publish a new Lord of The Rings MMO in China, which will be internationally released by Amazon, a Transformers shooter game (being developed by Certain Affinity, of which Leyou owns 20% and has a deal in place to buy the studio after 2020) and is working on Civilization Online, an MMO based on the Civilization franchise.
