I don't really want to pay attention to attention-seeking master troll Ted Cruz. It's the only thing he does well.

Why does Ted Cruz insist on using fiction as a comparison with real life? Also, why does he choose the worst examples of fiction? Is the man so dumb that subtext and meaning fly over his head?

"What, does no one wanna fight for our country anymore?"

"We've come a long way since Born on the Fourth of July."

Does Cruz think that the sources we develop and the people we surveil are all cisgendered hardasses?

Of fucking course you need a diverse work force to get actual intelligence from the world's population anno 2021. People feeling heard and respected is a factor in them deciding to help western intelligence services at huge personal risk.

Certainly want all your spies to be white alpha males, they're the best at blending in with people of all types.

ironically, the person being quoted as saying "the contemporary american left has failed" is... on the left

the point of the original message is that the "contemporary american left" has focused so heavily on the idea that the key to progress is to say the right words and use the right framings to drive social progress, and the fucking cia being able to do that is proof that it's a functionally toothless and useless strategy that can be co-opted by anyone for any reason without generating any tangible gains

responding to ted cruz with like "well actually, I think having feelings is good" completely ignores the (very good) original argument, which is sad

"If you're a Chinese communist, or an Iranian Mullah, or Kim Jong Un...would this scare you?"

These words tend to scare a lot of Cruz's colleagues, just saying.

I bet Ted Cruz likes to imagine those things are scared of him.

Why do people keep reposting his stupid shit here? I get if it's policy related, but viewing, responding to, or retweeting anything he says is entirely counterproductive and unhealthy. It's like Trump is gone, so people need a new "can you believe he said that" guy to score easy twitter points on. Giving him the attention he wants does nothing to get rid of him.

The CIA ad in question existing is a much bigger deal than Ted Cruz's reactionary take to it. Not sure why this is a thread.

the dumbest thing about this tweet is that ... the answer to his question is yes.

If you're an authoritarian dictator, the scariest threat to you is anybody who doesn't fit your conservative fundamentalist world view. Person of color? Gender-aware young person? Mental health aware CIA op? Uhh, yeah, those are basically the scariest threat to mono-cultural conservative fundamentalists.

Ted Cruz would be a perfect Treadstone villain for a future Bourne movie.

I have a problem with the CIA ad too, but from another angle. The idea of "woke imperialism", fucking despicable, irredeemable hellworld buffoonery. We really should have a thread to discuss the ad itself rather than Cruz's reactionary take on it. Because it's a perfect example of how empty identity politics can be twisted to entrap those who don't consider what is actually at stake.

Liberal governments coopt left language and repurpose it for ghoulish shit like this and yet remain unchallenged except by chuds who are mad that the CIA isn't pushing the idea of tough white masculine men toppling banana republics or some such nonsense.

Yeah there's a much more interesting discussion to be had about the CIA ad than "Cruz dumb"

Honestly, that fucking horrible CIA ad deserves its own thread more than Ted Cruz.

If you're a Chinese communist, or an Iranian Mullah, or Kim Jong Un would you be scared of a man who went to go work for the man who called his wife ugly or fled to a foreign country because of some snow?

How about we just ignore him than magnifying his attention seeking antics tenfold. He gets off on the backlash.

Obligatory fuck Ted Cruz, but it's important to have an obligatory fuck the CIA in here too.

The CIA video is truly awful, with Ted Cruz's tweet just being pretty standard Ted Cruz bad.

"Now before illegally waterboarding people, we will ask their preferred pronoun".

I don't really have a problem with performative wokeness when it's ultimately harmless, but when you're an organisation that engages in undermining elections, destabilising democracies, illegal torture and drug trade etc, it leaves a pretty nasty taste in the mouth.

We do not need to signal boost a random tweet by a twat.
If someone wants to create a new thread to discuss the rather bonkers ad at the center of this, knock yourselves out.
