An influential coronavirus model often cited by the White House is now forecasting that 134,000 people will die of Covid-19 in the United States, nearly double its previous prediction.

The numbers have been 2000 deaths before reopening started. So even the administration is saying the opening measures that have been taken are going to increase daily deaths by 50% while the president is encouraging the reopening.

That's 90000 dead in a month. The total now is high 60 thousands...

Yup 9/11 led to 20 plus years of war but daily 9/11 is acceptable now to a large percentage of the US population. The elderly who will represent most deaths will tend to vote for the people pushing for reopening too.

I know it's been discussed to death so please excuse my ignorance, but why are we seeing such a spike in the death toll while more and more municipalities are extending / enhancing lockdown & PPE requirements? Is it because we're doing more and more testing and thus have an ever increasing sample size of confirmed cases?
