The studio has been working mostly on Pokémon Games for decades. Perhaps the problem is that somehow they don't see some things that are obvious to us because they "bath" in the same atmosphere, same environment, same habits, while if three studios worked on the series and each one of them produced one episode, they could exchange fresh views and add changes that players have asked for ages while not changing things that are appreciated?

Is it healthy for a studio to work on a single series mostly?

Probably has some effect, would imagine the game needing to ship n function on a deadline is a bigger factor.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios has been working in the same series for years now and it hasn't stopped them from hitting on all cylinders all the time. Even with the controversial Yakuza 7 combat change, the game looks like a marvelous evolution of the Yakuza 6/Judgement style.

I don't think this is it, to be honest.

Nintendo EPD has been working on platformers since, what Jungle Beats on the GC, and that hasn't prevented them from wildly different games and creative endeavors.

Also, for a studio that focuses on RPGs, the few platformers Gamefreak has made have actually been pretty good. Granted they started with Pulseman, but still

Yes this is it. If you have a game release schedule that's yearly you don't have time for major improvements or creative changes. Pokemon is Nintendo's Call of Duty. It exists for sales. They will never slow down the release schedule when even mediocre games like Let's Go Pikachu have no trouble crossing 10 million units sold.

If Pokemon fans want change they need to exercise some self control and stop buying Pokemon games they claim to dislike.

ngl I think the main difference between them and GF is that they know they gotta impress and improve to stay afloat while Pokemon is absolutely guaranteed to sell and doesn't even need to rely on game sales to make bank. If Yakuza 7 fumbles you know they're gonna course correct ASAP.

"Is Square Enix running out of ideas?"

"Final Fantasy VII Remake is the greatest RPG of all time"

"Is Final Fantasy VII the most overrated game ever?"

And so on and so forth.

"Turns out I was right, worst fears about FFVII confirmed"

"I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone I believed in Final Fantasy VII since reveal [pics evidence in thread]"

"So this is FFVII huh I think I prefer The Last of Us 2 already and it isn't even out"

"It's NOT too early to call FFVII Remake Game of the Decade. Here's why."

Yup. Haha.

Problem can't be working on the same stuff, if the main complaint is that the players can't get the exact same Pokémon as in the previous games.

Haven't bought a game since XY disappointed me. The series is too big to fail at this point. Some fans not buying games won't change anything when regardless of fan reception the games are almost always a guaranteed 10 million sellers

I think a change of leadership is sorely needed for this series. I don't really trust them to innovate and try new things when the executive producer thought the switch would fail because of kids playing mobile games.

Edit: producer, not director

After observing all of the debates, I think I'm in the camp that attributes problems more to the yearly release schedule than anything else.

The Pokemon IP has so much more potential than what has been put out over the last few years. They could have made the jump to consoles and worked out the kinks, but here we are again. The game doesn't look that good, when you compare it to other Switch exclusive titles. While I obviously don't condone death threats and the likes, GF had this backlash coming down the line at some point.

what happened was we're living in a post BoTW world right now, and people are starting to realize the full potential of the IP

I must have been a genius because I already knew the full potential of the IP when I was 10 playing Pokemon Blue and wishing it was a massive open world game back then.
