Earlier this year Last of Us Part 2 surpassed Witcher 3 in the amount of GOTY awards in gotten, almost 300 awards. The game itself is also highly praised having a 93 on both Opencritic and Metacritic, it might had have some controversy but it didn't stop it from selling well as it was also the fastest selling PS4 console exclusive, with 4 million copies sold right around launch.
In the bigger picture it also shows that Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog have been producing hit after hit with the first Last of Us, Uncharted 4 and Part 2 being the GOTY of their respective years as well as the most awarded. Probably as well as the hottest the developers on the spot.
