Would a post-scarcity communist society be like...high school?

I'm just trying to imagine how such a society would work. High school is the closest real world scenario I can think of. Basically no one has to work. All your needs (food, etc) are provided. You are free to choose what clubs/sports/activities you want to participate in.

Since there is no money, no jobs, no levels/classes among people...I imagine the way mating selection would work would be just like high school as well. ie the good looking or "jock" guy gets all the girls. And the unattractive ones are pretty much stuck dating in your own attractiveness range. People would probably splinter into cliques just like high school based more on attractiveness/social skills.

I was wondering who would the janitors be? Since there are no more jobs, who would be the ones to clean the toilets? I guess we would probably have robots doing those things, but I'm sure there are still other yucky/dangerous jobs that someone HAS to do. Who would do them?

I think small tribal and/or pre-civilization human societies could be described as communist.

I have no idea how a communist society can operate on a large scale. Once the society extends past people you know personally, I don't know how money doesn't inevitably emerge.

If there are yucky or dangerous jobs that have to be done, then it's not really a post-scarcity society.

Anyways, the answer is obviously "depends on who you ask." Lots of socialist theorists believe it's kind of moot to ask how the final stages of socialism would look. What does ANY post-scarcity society look like? Who fuckin' knows.

However, a lot of socialists would counter that some weird high school hierarchy probably wouldn't emerge because, like... part of the socialist project, especially in current day theory, involves an intersectional assault on power structures.

If you're interested in post-scarcity societies that are kinda socialist, there's some good sci-fi along those lines. Like everything that Iain M. Banks wrote about The Culture. In short, though, I can genuinely say that your decision to think of it as cliques is a really distorted vision of what free association communities are meant to bring about. It also speaks to your priorities in life that you're thinking about these cliques in terms of who gets the girls??? Which is, like... baffling? Association would likely be based along the lines of mutual interest, whether that be religion, scientific research, art, exploration, raw dog fuckin'...

Like dude, you do realize that not all women are as superficial to date only based on "attractiveness" (not to mention what is attractive isn't uniform)

I'm just thinking that so much of human's mating selection patterns used to come from things like survival, etc. The female would choose the strongest/most healthy/most wealthy male. Without all those factors then it just comes down to only attractiveness (just like high school).

I always just imagine it being similar in structure to the locations in The Giver book series or like Dr. Stone's village.

You are catered to the basic needs, but there are roles that need to be filled, communism will let you do whatever work you want to, learn a trade you want, your free to choose to do anything you set your mind out to do.

And if your injured or unable to work, then you can just enjoy the necessities given to you. But there are always self employed jobs people can give themselves to get some goods to enjoy.

I do not believe a truly communist society can really exist beyond a few hundred people or so.
