By necessity, every political view that isn't literally fascism has to unite under a single banner.

It's a wider range of beliefs and should certainly at least be split into moderates and progressives, but we can't afford that as long as forty percent of the country is literally fucking insane.

There is indeed a lot of in-fighting between lefists.

A lot of it has to do with "you're too left" vs "you're not left enough", I think.

So yes, if AOC says something that some think isn't "left enough", they'll attack her. Which will then lead other leftist attacking those for attacking AOC.

This is absolutely right.

The left ist a very diverse group with very diverse views. You could find two individuals that identify as left wing and do not agree on anything that extends beyond basic human rights (including maybe a few of the more extended human rights like gay marriage).

Honestly, perfectly correct.

The left doesn't hate the left. Centrists that fancy themselves the left hate the left. And the left hates the neoliberals who are effectively lying about their commitment to leftist policies.

Unfortunately, many people (especially people with hardline views on any issue) allow perfect to be the enemy of good.

Dore is aggressively anti-intellectual and more Anti-Establishment than left. It's why he was so enamored by Tulsi.

Because the "left" is a big tent. Also because you can fight amongst yourselves and still come to a consensus. Or they may not. Only those who value decorum above all else sneer at infighting.

Wait this is about JimmyDore? Then who cares?

Lol, this is funny because especially from the US "the left" is everything form centre/centre-right to actual left ideals.

It's not infighting when you have dozens of points along the spectrum.

Can't really add to this. For better or worse, we need to stick together.

Probably possible to find people on the left that don't like gay marriage, like the SWP in the US.

If you're to the left of me you're deranged/naive/larping.

If you're to the right of me you're backwards/brainwashed/self-centered.

If you're on the same level as me you're not learning enough, are a self-satisfied twit, and are doomed to failure .

etc

What Americans call "the left" includes everything from socialists to the centre-right, so no wonder.

The gulf between someone like me who's a Democratic Socialist and a classical neoliberal Democrat like Nancy Pelosi is extremely vast. And yet we're both considered "the radical left." I'm a hell of a lot more radical lol

Their position is:
  • Free Market Capitalism as much as possible, with private property, private capital and private profits.
  • Government relying on private contractors whenever possible
  • Heavier governmental regulations on Capitalism, in the interest of Public Safety.
  • Heavier taxation on Capitalism, in the interest of social programs for the poor.

Whereas my position would be more like:
  • Government ownership for major industries, utilities, and transportation systems, personal ownership for personal property, homes, and small businesses. Free market capitalism significantly diminished.
  • Complete governmental regulation of the economy, but not centrally planned
  • Strict limits on the accumulation of private property and capitalism
  • Extensive social services and programs

It's so vast in difference that we shouldn't be lumped into the same category. I only vote for Democrats because they are our best chance against Republicans right now, not because they represent my political philosolhy.

Given the disingenuous and low-effort framing of the thread and the lack of any clear nuance, this thread has been locked.

Please take care not to make such low effort threads in the future.
