You're out walking with your toddler, you see an old man wearing all MAGA clothing wipe out in his mobility scooter, what do you do?

Do you render aid to the man putting your kid at a low risk of catching Covid from someone who is 99% likely unvaccinated(and your child is too young to be vaccinated) or do you keep your distance call 911 and try and get someone driving by to stop and help? For purposes of the question you are not confident enough in your kid staying put and out of traffic if they are not right by you.

So this is based off a situation that came close to happening to me today, we were walking and we see this old man wearing all MAGA gear on the other side of the road in his mobility scooter going too fast down a hill in our neighborhood, he only just managed to stop his scooter. The situation got me thinking about what I would do if he hadn't been able to stop the scooter. To make matters even more sketchy I hear him practically cough up his lung afterwards as we keep on walking.

I push the scooter on the train tracks so the trolley that would have ran over 5 vaccinated teens tied to the tracks is stopped.

In the before times, I'm stopping and helping. It's good to set examples for your kids, even if said person supports a racist, narcissistic douche like Trump.

Now, with Covid being a thing, not a chance.

If I am by myself with my child/dog and have no way to safely put them to one side then they would get my focus 100%.

If I was with a partner and with a child/dog, I would leave them with my partner, mask up and go over and help them. A human is a human, stupid or otherwise.

As presented, the guy being a MAGA is irrelevant. If you can't leave your child unattended because he/she is too young, then you have no choice but to call for help regardless your political ideology. The argument would've been a lot more divisive if you removed the inability of the child to stay put. If the child was a little older (like 10) and still unvaxxed, that's a very different - and more interesting - conversation.

I put on my mask and help them like a normal person. If I have the additional constraint of a needy child being involved then I try to locate help for them or dial 911 if need be.

Yeah. Precious peeps must be protected. It's a pretty reasonable stance. If you're by yourself and all masked up though, I'd say help. And you don't have to get close to call 911 at least, which you can do even with a kid.

i'd help, i'd like to think i'm better than assholes. if he refuses my help i don't stress, just walk on

if my kids were young and I had them with me i might not, depends a lot on whether i can leave the kids safely for 5 mins or not. i wouldn't bring the kids near him.

In the before times 100% yes, but I've gone to great lengths to keep my kid from getting sick(and they have conditions where getting Covid is a serious concern). And there's a reason I didn't have walk away and do nothing as an option(because that's completely evil).

Assess the situation. The human side of me will help them. Mask up and help what way I can. Disinfect myself afterwards.

If they are being belligerent against me, hands off, call for help.

Sorry for wording it badly, I was trying to keep it concise. Do you really think its a non-argument? I'm truly not sure what I'd have done, definitely call 911 and probably try to flag somebody else down to check how he is, but if there wasn't any vehicle traffic I'd have to make a call on getting close.

Sounds like you would just call 911/the police? I mean if someone wiped out at speed like that, they probably need professionals in an ambulance to help them, not you.

I help him out, but end every sentence with "Black lives matter" "here's a socialist helping hand" or "medicare for all". He can either accept my help, or he can deny it.
