lol Dubas knows he can do this after getting Tavares and the old school hockey people won't be able to open their mouths against him or the trade.

If Dubas ever traded Hyman Babcock will probably walk out.

Will never happen though because as much as Babs loves his son, Hyman has been one of Dubas' guys for a long time.

Oh well I suppose that is true, but as a Wild fan, like I said, I do see some similarities in how both play the game, especially as they develop. I do not expect Dumba to ever get to PPG (though to be 100% honest I think he will be getting 60+ points at some point. 65-70 maybe) but there are similarities sometimes.

Poehling, meanwhile, reminds me a whole lot of Charlie Coyle. But hopefully a version that actually plays to his potential and reaches the heights Coyle was supposed to. A skilled big 2nd center who can use his body correctly and physically power through defenses.

I will be rooting for him for sure. And I will probably get a Habs jersey of his once he gets there.

?

During the scrimmages he's looked like a totally different player from a few years ago. Excited to see how he develops. That guy can dangle.

Matt Martin lost his spot in december tho

I guess at one point the Leafs started to realize they promised they were going to be a skilled team and were dressing plugs in spots our prospects deserved

Also Martin not stopping any of those swipes at our players and not fighting anyone wasn't helping

Ovi is taking the Stanley Cup to the World Cup fan fest in Moscow to share with his Tovarish.

Getting rid of Martin without attaching a pick or prospect to him is a win.

Another goalie though wtf, something has to give there eventually.

I like how I actually saw Carolina listed as a possible place for Karlsson. I mean it's not going to happen but I can dream that we might actually at some point be a place people wouldn't mind coming to.
I've had this fantasy too but then it ends when I remind myself we'd have to add Bobby Ryan too.

Until Nylander, Matthews and Marner choke you out.

They're definitely good this year, they'll have to move some things around next year to make it work but Dubas hasn't given me any reason to think he can't make it happen. We'll have to see what happens.

They have a few candidates to ship out or let walk after this season.

The Leafs will be completely fine.

If they absolutely have to do something they can dump Andersen after his bonus is paid next July 1 and have a go with cheap goalies. Marleau being dumped or Robidas Islanded after his bonus is paid out next summer is another possibility.

Yeahhh Leafs fans and non-Leafs fans are both trying to find a reason to think they'll suck or get fucked next year or whatever

in reality good teams and good GMs manage. Everyone kept saying there was no way Penguins could keep both Crosby and Malkin long term and look how that turned out, they got Kessel on top of them and managed

i'm definitely not jealous and definitely not crying right now

You're crazy if you think this current Leafs team would survive without Andersen.

Matthews and Marner are still on ELCs this seaaon

Yeah, I was referring to their future scenario.

The way I see it, I believe that Dubas, Pridham, and Gilman are smart people. I have no reason to believe this is not the case. I don't think they would make a move like signing Tavares without looking into the future and at least having a plan. They know the salary cap exists. They aren't just throwing around $11 million per year contracts without thinking of the effects they will have in the future like so many peoole believe they are.

They didn't have to sign Tavares, they wouldn't willfully fuck themselves over.

Sparks could hold the fort in regular season.. but i wouldnt trust him for playoffs right now.. pickard would be a better choice.. lol both were like .940 in the Marlies last season

Shocking statistic: goalies on stacked teams often have a better save percentage than ones that aren't.

The Marlies were also the Marlies last season and were insanely good so who knows how much of their great numbers can be attributed to the goalie play.

Having said that I do believe in Sparks, I think he'll be a starting NHL goalie someday if not here then somewhere else. Pickard.... ehhhh I dunno. Probably not.

Being cheap with goalies isn't a good idea.

The NHL goalie market is completely messed up. They're all worth pretty much nothing on the trade market but the moment anybody who might be decent is anointed a starter they get a big money contract. I think goalie talent these days is really compressed.

It isn't a good idea to be cheap when you're wasting money on bad veterans like Steve Mason or Cam Ward but if you're willing to stomach some risk I think there's value to be had. The Leafs' skaters and coaches are good enough to make up for below-average goaltending and you can always rent one at the deadline.

Id rather have both Pickard and Sparks than McBackup anyway.. but Andersen is our man for the rest of his contract .. as it should be :)

If Sparks and a roster player could be packaged for a good young D, then i wouldnt mind it either..

We have lots of options except on D.. thats where we need to focus

Nah. Sparks isn't holding f-all. Nor is Pickard. The best way to ruin this current Leafs project would be to try to brute-force an AHL tier goalie into an NHL starting job.

lmao the Leafs barely have a defense, and now that you've signed Tavares you think you can also get rid of your average goalie and get further than the first round? C'mon... Don't go full Dopey guys.

there's only one guy in leafs system that has a chance at being an NHL goalie

his name is Joseph Woll

I disagree about the Leafs being good enough to make up for bad goaltending. Andersen consistently faced some of the most shots of any NHL team including, if I remember correctly, one of the highest high danger chance percentages. They don't have the D quality to support a below average goaltender and I don't really think Babcock's coaching is a world beater by any means either.

Just look at the nights Andersen turned into Mr. Hyde. Leafs got lit up.

Yeah Andersen isn't going anywhere until at least like the last year of his deal and only if someone in the system REALLY rises.

Leafs cap space up to 16.1 million now for this year. Little bit more room to breathe.

It's actually less than you realize

We need to maintain an ~$4 mil buffer for bonuses, need to re-sign Nylander and Johnsson and bring up like 3 players

Soooo

We likely have less than $1.5 million in cap right now

Wait wut what's the story here

I went to his wiki and it says his name is Karl Andreas Johnsson

Edit: ooh looks like Holl might get a chance
