What are your favorite battle themes?

There are plenty of great battle themes in my heart, so I'll post one that doesn't get enough love.



And a new entry:

The saving grace for a game overstaying its welcome.

The distant worlds version of Don't Be Afraid I modded into Final Fantasy 8


The original version of Seymour's Battle Theme, not that remastered version that ruins the percussion

The extended intro when you get a sneak attack is great too

always thought the FFIV battle theme was perfect for the occasion, some scrub enemy or a pwing monster in a box.

not to derail the thread with FF stuff but every battle theme afterward was pretty grating . or at least it was after the 50th random encounter

Final fantasy's classic battle theme. Persona 5 had several along with 4g. I don't know if it counts but the monster battle themes in monster hunter world are excellent.

Two very underrated ones IMO

Romancing SaGa 3 is one that I love dearly

this is such a relentless jam:



it's super simple and a very short loop, but I kinda love it. it was remade twice, for paper jam and the 3ds remake, but I honestly l prefer the original

Freaking EFF yes, this song is amazing! The only part of the game that didn't overstay its welcome!

Say what you will about FF XIII itself but this battle theme is one of the best.

Just to throw in a bit of a Western flavour in what will probably be a Japan dominated thread:

These themes defined my childhood:

FFIV Battle Theme
FFIV Boss Theme
FFVI Battle Theme
FFVI Boss Theme
Mario RPG Battle Theme
Mario RPG Boss Theme

The Knight Blazer theme from Wild Arms II.

Pretty much anything from the modern Personas but especially Burn My Dread from P3.

Heart of Fire from Aria of Sorrow.

The boss theme that plays in FFVI when you fight Ultimate Weapon.

Tough pick, but this one never got old for me. It's arguably my favorite thing Nobuo Uematsu has done.

TitS SC was such a surprise with the rocky OST and fuck me it's good. It's WAY too good. Legit one of the goats.

I'm surprised the G.O.A.T battle theme of Final Fantasy isn't here. Final Fantasy 13 may have had problems but Lightning and that Battle theme were far and away the best things about that game.

I really liked Etrian Odyssey IV music:

This battle theme is so primal to me with that punctuating bass line! It made me level grind so I could hear it more often even if I sucked at playing as a kid.

Love the Slavic themes in TW3's soundtrack.

I am absolutely in love with this 3 act piece.

What do i mean by 3 acts piece? Well, i want you to visualize this song like the climax of an adventure movie or maybe a battle in an anime, a face off with the big bad.

First act: The beginning of the song starts cheerful, this represents the heroes who finally got it together to march into the final battle, the music sets a tone as they are being effective, but the boss is holding its own.

Second Act: the music slows down a bit and tones down the cheerful bits, this is when the boss is proving to be thougher than they thought so the heroes regroup to assess the situation and plan a counter attack against bad odds, you see them plan and position themselves.

Third act: the music goes to its most dramatic and epic as the heroes execute an all or nothing plan.

Then it loops because this is a videogame, but you get the idea.

This is not the only time Shimomura does it, not even in the series. Paper Jam and to a lesser extend Bowser's Inside Story do it too

I think it's an amazing ambient building technique and i wonder why it isn't more utilized.

This theme makes me happy

The first time I heard this I had to stop playing and appreciate this goodness.

A couple of my favorites have been posted already. So, I'll go with Leap the Precipice from Eternal Sonata.

This thread makes me wonder why Western games seems lacking behind Japanese games when it comes to battle theme. The only one that pops to my head are The Witcher 3 and Divinity OS, which already mentioned above. Even Horizon Zero Dawn which have great OST have forgettable battle themes...

I love chrono trigger's battle theme. The bass line is amazing

This washing machine has pretty epic battle music:



I've always like a lot of World of Warcrafts music. They could take a page out of the Japanese developers books though to make more epic battle music.

I think Persona series overall has good battle theme. Recently I played through P1 on PSP and Blood Destiny stood out. (even though I also digged A Lone Player)



And also the goat song. Black Tar. As much as I hate some of the tracks in XCX, Black Tar is goat. Based Sawano

I think this will always be in the running for my favorite boss theme of all time. The entire soundtrack of PDS is phenomenal, but this track especially grips tight and never lets go.



Final Fantasy VII, surprised this hasn't been mentioned, perhaps too obvious. Still, I love the way this hits you so suddenly; it gave me jumps more than once.
