Let's revisit the 'Two sentence horror stories'

A few years back there was aRedditpage and GAF thread where members would share their two sentence horror story creations.

I thought it would be cool to do the same here on Era, and also share some of the stories that stuck with you over the years. Or the ones we all tried to forget.

Here's a few classics...

I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, Daddy check for monsters under my bed. I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, Daddy there's somebody on my bed.

The young, single mother awoke on the couch next to her newborn. Since his birth, she'd never seen him so quiet and still.

The boy woke from his nightmare and ran for the comfort of his mother's room. But there was no comfort to be found; only her glowing eyes and wide grin.

I always remember this one from a Best New Horror anthology a few years back (technically it's three sentences)

2:00 pm: The Real Estate Agent Arrives by Steve Rasnic Tem

In the backyard, after the family moved away: blue chipped food bowl, worn-out dog collar, torn little boy shorts, Dinosaur T-shirt, rope, rusty can, child's mask lined with sand. In the corner the faint outline of a grave, dog leash lying like half a set of parenthesis; then you remember: the family had no pets.

I like the first one, it actually made me feel creeped a bit. I don't get the second one.

The third one reminds me of this episode from fact or fiction with the red eyes granny.

I love the idea of this thread. I'm a horror geek myself, I think I'll try to write some too.

The first one seems derivative of "I heard it too"
A girl heard her mom yell her name from downstairs, so she got up and started to head down. As she got to the stairs, her mom pulled her into her room and said "I heard that, too."

but the baby was less quiet and less still during the time between its birth and now, it must have been born quiet and then died sometime recently if its dead

she said shes never seen the baby so quiet since its birth, if its dead quiet now, that would mean the baby has been making atleast some noise since its birth, not to mention have some semblance of motion, even if the baby is motionless atm

I guess not a lot of parents in here.

When my twins were newborns, I would regularly jump awake after just dreaming about them being in the bed somewhere because I fell asleep.

IMO, it's the best example I've seen of what one of these micro-horror stories should accomplish. So many try to just go for a punchline, but what makes 2:00PM effective is how it makes you see so much more in your head than just the text. That line turns what you read on its head and lets your mind imagine the more much horrifying implications
