You know, I opened the OP and was looking for the racist tweet in question, and could only see the two responses she used to hide it inbetween the act of deletion. So I thought, wait am I missing how those tweets are racist? Then I decide to click the link to the article, and see the stupid as fuck line about "housekeepers, nannies and landscapers" and then had my jeffgoldblumthereitis.gif moment

Instead of apologizing she decides to defend her original tweet by calling out other people because they "politicized" her statement.

Like why are people egos so easily bruised that they have to constantly dig their holes deeper.

Step up to your mistake, admit your ignorance or prejudice, and do better next time. That's all you have to do, why is it so hard?

Pretty sure that's what the tweet is calling out. People who hire immigrants as the help but wouldn't protect them from ICE.
Yeah, I kind of saw it as biting sarcasm when viewed in the context of her other tweets on the subject, but who knows. Sarcasm can be really hard to get across on the internet, to say nothing of a 140 character tweet. Better to just say what you mean lest you be misunderstood.

This is true. But people see this in the context of a rich white woman saying it and it sounds like the kind of tone deafness that comes with privilege. On the whole, it's not a big deal to me. She's trying to be an ally, but that tweet was a bad attempt.

Yeah. It's a dumb tweet that's being blown up by certain types, that ignores the previous tweets and actions mentioned in the article, such as.

Over this past weekend, Heard had joined other celebrities like Connie Britton, Joshua Jackson, Lena Dunham, Bella Thorne, Sia, Mira Sorvino, Rob Reiner, and Constance Wu to protest family separations at the border. As BuzzFeed reported, they stood outside the Tornillo detention center in Texas, where children are housed in tents. The protest was organized by Voto Latino.

You look at the Variety article and who she's 'under fire' from, I mean, it kinda paints a picture.

Not going to dig anymore, but I wanted to see if they had posted stuff related to immigration, and yeah. It seems like this is someone who wants to restrict immigration doing a gotcha on someone protesting ICE.

It doesn't make her comment any better, but it is kind of annoying that the reason this is being brought up seems to just be yet another person who is actually apathetic to the whole situation.

That third tweet... *facepalm*

When people say the real issues I get they are usually doing it to downplay whatever they don't care about but I wish they showed they cared about anything.

Bunch of moralistic chickenshits.

Leave the jokes to the comedians with a staff of writers nex time.

this is literally a joke a staff writer would come up with, "ICE is coming to take the help folks, pack it up"

i get why you're irked,

but if what she did is worth talking about then it doesn't matter who brought it up, if what she did is worth bringing up then you should be thanking them for bringing it to your attention

She tried to sound good here, but legit stepped into the worst stereotyping possible.

Like, I'm legit wondering if she did this on purpose. This is really precise shit lol.

Honestly...well F her. Sorry Amber. But F you.
If you can see how she's trying clumsily to say something supportive here, why are you concluding with "fuck her?"

I'm not convinced more than a few people were actually angry at this and that it wasn't primarily because of who it came from and was actually because of what was said. It's a stereotype, but I think I came in expecting some wtf type of shit

Guys...I know many of your are jumping at the chance to burn her at the stake for this...but come on. It's an ill advised tweet and she probably has no idea what she's done. But are we going to stick to our own stereotype of "politically correct internet people see tweet start a riot"? This isn't the first time we've heard or seen this type of "joke". It shouldn't be encouraged and it should be looked down upon to discourage future use of it. But plenty of comedians use it and she doesn't deserve to be affected professionally or emotionally for a dumb tweet

I think she means well enough. She realized it was a joke in bad taste and deleted the tweet but at least she's against the immigration policies. No reason to attack her over it.

Who here lives in Los Angeles? Who here is actually Latino, Chicano, Hispanic? The tweet is certainly tone deaf but... I mean... Is this a hill worth dying on? If people here did what she is saying their employees would be in safer spot. ICE is out of control here especially in the valley and high desert.

I know. That's my point. Don't crack dumb jokes when people aren't sure you are joking. Leave it to the professionals who sell 2 bit jokes every night.

There have been plenty of racists that have been exposed in real life, on the internet or over on social media for what they've either said, or done. And they deserve it. Joke or not, it's inappropriate. That is how Roseanne Barr had gotten called out on it as well.

This isn't the 1900's in which they can get away with shit like that due to technology, the internet & social media in which they haven't been born. You think that they would've learned by now.

I'm not sure that I should be thanking someone for highlighting someone slipping in casual racism during their effort to help people who are being abused by a xenophobic government, when the person doing the highlighting is doing it to support the xenophobic government.

Not really? They're the types to smell blood in the water and want to make a big deal out of it. It's a step beyond the usual tone policing tactics but it's nothing new.

It's left out of the OP but click the article and you can see who is trying to make this a thing.

Stop falling for conservative trolls weaponizing your outrage

Basically. Yeah.

you're not thanking them for supporting a xenophobic government, you're thanking them for bringing something worthwhile to your attention

all im saying is if the topic is worth bringing up then kudos to whoever brings it up, doesn't seem all that unreasonable to me

i personally dont really think its worth all that much to bring up, but thats just me

That's literally all there is to Twitter

Lol, I fucking hate Gamergate, the alt-right, comicsgate and every 4chan nerd that caused this. At one point, not that long ago, you could give opinions about meaningless shit and it wasn't politically charged and it was all alright. But somehow life has turned into a real life Dave Chappelle skit and everybody needs to know what Ja Rule thinks. :P

This was not a joke, this is the only way that many many out of touch rich people in LA ever come into contact with immigrants. Further proof that celebrities are not the best people to spearhead social change.

I feel like with such a hard line mentality the "good" ones are in danger of cannibalizing their own kind in search of perfection. EVERYONE has slip ups, literally almost everyone save for 2-3 people on Earth (including you/the people you happen to know). Ironically, the ones who are open/proud of their rascism seem to be ones to keep their power/riches (see President). The ones who are sorry/admit they made a mistake are the ones shunned forever.

Yeah seriously.

It's a bad joke and she shouldn't have made it. Generally speaking, jokes made on the stereotypes of people outside your race won't be well received.

That being said, getting worked up about this is exactly what conservatives want to see. Why cannibalize ourselves.

I don't think she's trying to spearhead social change. Sounds like she's literally just tweeting how she's concerned about ICE checkpoints in Hollywood

Isn't she just calling out the rich fucks who are pro strong immigration control while at the same time exploiting illegal immigrants for work?
don't really know who she is though

But yeah if ur a rich young white woman you can't really joke about that shit.. It's like the white girl and the Africa aids joke.. Just really poor taste. Not really worth trying to ruin someone's career, especially seeing that they are a so-called ally to the cause

Of course you are, and other people are allowed to call you on it

Make a mistake, acknowledge you were in the wrong, do better in the future, nothing too complicated yet so many people can only do the first part haha, I do appreciate that her heart at least had one foot in the right place, but the racist stuff ain't cool and of course isn't gonna be celebrated

Well, yeah. It's not worthwhile. And the intent behind certain types attempting to make it worthwhile is pretty transparent.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I'm a Peruvian immigrant and live in Los Angeles and the reality of LA is the majority of jobs described are filled by brown folk like me and that is across the class board. Also none of the jobs described are anything to denigrate or be ashamed of. I worked landscaping for two years to help put myself through college. I worked for 7 years as a Director of Architectural firm in West Hollywood so all I did was interact with these people like this on the day to day. Great people, hardworking, many undocumented who are providing for their families. Because of their status these are the jobs they can get. You really shouldn't talk about thibgs wihtout familiarity.

This is what confuses me about the outrage over this. Do people honestly believe undocumented immigrants don't work in these positions? Or maybe, is it that people think she's saying everyone in those positions are undocumented? She's not making fun of or mocking those occupations. Like I'm trying to find where exactly she really fucked up.

It honestly seems bizarre to me that I'm supposed to talk someone for doing something blatantly malicious because I got some little bit of news out of it, or that I'm supposed to iron out my thank yous into I'm not thanking you for the bad things, I'm thanking you for this one very specific thing that comes along with the bad thing.

Nah, "fuck this guy" seems to be more appropriate.

Now that I think about it, it would be someone doing the right thing for the wrong reason, which I wouldn't say should be thanked, so yea you're right
