As the title says when The Simpsons finally is ended, do you expect a spin-off attempt? If there was to be one, what would you want the focus to be*? With Disney soon to acquire the Fox properties (including The Simpsons), I could see them wanting to keep the franchise going in some form or another. Also, do you find it odd there has never been a spin-off series yet?

*Note: I'm not asking do you want there to be one. I'm sure many people would just want a full-stop of the franchise.

Are we sure The Simpsons will ever end?
Once they find a way to computer-generate the voices, they can make it go on forever.

I've wanted a timeskip and transition into a more adult series for the last 15 years.

Eh.

They had their chances to do spinoffs and sat on them for too long.

There will be no spinoff and at most a soft reboot with an all-new cast.

Either way, it makes far too much money to simply end it now, and they'd sooner begin replacing cast members that retire/die than they would outright end it.

Ehhh, how about a medical drama starring Dr Nick.

I'll say one thing, as much as the quality has dropped, I still love the show. There have been some really good episodes the past few years. The day one of the main cast leaves (or dies) and is replaced, the show will just feel wrong to me. I hope it ends before then.

What if they "rebooted" it without rebooting it. Maybe age Bart up to adult and have it be about his wife and kids. Or Lisa? Or Maggie?

It'll keep going long after we're all gone. At some point episodes will just be generated by neural nets for the purpose of pleasing other neural nets.

I think the only one that would be legit would be a Moe spin-off. You actually have a few characters and a setting you could play off.

Dark comedy Simpsons sequel about adult Lisa returning home to Springfield after years away, by Raphael Bob-Waksberg (Bojack Horseman).

Sound like more of a Shelbyville thing.

Honestly if Phil Hartman was still with us, I'd watch a Lyle Lanley spin off.

Will Fox (Disney?) have the rights to The Simpsons once it's done?

Yes. Fox owns the franchise, along with Family Guy and Bob's Burgers. Even though Fox stopped airing them, they also own the rights to off-network shows like American Dad (and Futurama, when Comedy Central aired new episodes before ending the show), as well as the rights to cancelled/ended shows like The Cleveland Show and King of the Hill among a bevy of other animated Sunday night shows.

When Disney finally acquires Fox, I wonder if they will try to have Universal Studios (owned by Comcast, who also wants Fox) phase out The Simpsons area of the park.

I think if they were ever going to do a spin off, they've have done it already, like the vague plans they had for the Simpsons spinoff showcase thing. I'd expect a reboot.
