Great thread title :)
Tales of Berseria is still my GOTY so far.
I'm really hoping for a Vesperia remaster on modern consoles and PC at some point, as I still have it on ps3 but it's in japanese.

Can we all agree that Tales of Symphonia 2: Dawn of the New World is beyond a disappointment and something that should be best forgotten?

Having the cast we loved from the original be relegated to side characters and the the new protagonists both being insufferable was just so bad.

I didn't HATE ToS: Dawn of the New World. It actually got me back into the series after I ended up hating both Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Legendia. It was okay at best though.

The original cast getting dumped as side-characters with level caps was lame. As was most of them being recast. And most of them apparently not changing their clothes at all after two years.

It's the only Tales game I never managed to finish. It was more because I hated the combat though.

I didn't really have a problem with the characters and story.

Finished Zestiria some time ago and was a little bit disappointed. Played Berseria first and Zestiria is not even close. I can definitely appreciate the improvements of Berseria now that I see the difference between the 2.

I was a huge fan of Symphonia at the time, so this game being announced was a godsend. It definitely dropped the ball on a lot of things, different voice actors from the original cast, no real world map, the Pokemon system that I never really used, and of course the two main characters.

I did warm up to the game though, so I put it up above stuff like Tales of the Tempest lol.

I'm playing Zestiria after Beseria too. Although Zestiria doesn't capture my interest as much. After playing Berseria though I love all the references and things I can find in Zestiria.

Oh yeah. Getting all the references is wonderful. I'm glad I played them in that order actually.

Haha, liking that thread title.
Just want to say Berseria was a positive surprise this year. Wasn't that big a fan of the games before it (especially Zestiria and Xillia 2), so this felt like a huge step in the right direction. Gives me hope for whatever comes next.

I liked the characters in Zestiria if nothing else.. Oh and the soundtrack was pretty good for a Tales game

Expecting a spinoff title like Radiant Mythology. But then again, since we haven't heard anything about it yet, it might as well be the next main title.

I will say the Tales of Zestiria soundtrack had more unique and memorable music than the Berseria OST. It just seems like Motoi Sakuraba either had no budget or no time and most of his music was just average. The only pieces that stood out were the Boss themes based on the Abbey theme

Team Symphonia leading the thread poll yisssss
I think the only reason I voted Team Symphonia is because next to none of the Team Destiny games even came west, so I haven't played any of them. Graces is the only one I can think of off the top of my head, but I don't think that was strictly a Team Destiny game.

Unrelated, but I started playing Tales of the Rays on Android. Only a couple days in, so I haven't yet gotten a grasp on how awful the microtransactions can get, but so far it's scratching that Tales grind itch. I'll see how long I can continue playing before it starts feeling mandatory to shell out money.

Basically this. I think it's kind of expected when more people just know and have played the Team Symphonia games. Graces was the last Team Destiny game though, it definitely counts.

As for Rays, I think it's pretty good about not needing to rely on the money. Since the weapons and Mirrage Artes are the only things tied to it and 3* weapons really can carry a character far if you're willing to play the stages to get material drops to level them up, it can handle the content pretty well. I haven't spent a dime on it and still feel pretty comfortable with the game, though I'm admittedly hoarding my currency for a specific gacha after doing a 10-roll on the Leon-Stahn rate-up banner.

I've been playing since day one, do 1-2 ten pulls on every event banner, and have never felt like I need to spend money.

Like I've said before, I think the game's weird in that it's a spinoff but also a sequel....it didn't really get the budget needed for a "proper" sequel to Symphonia and wasn't treated as such. Still had some fun with it, and it was nice seeing more references to Phantasia, but I compare it closer to something like the Radiant Mythology games than a mainline title.

I'm kind of hoping that the Switch Tales game is a port of something we haven't gotten in the west yet, even if it's like another Danganronpa situation where Japan got a collection of games that were released individually in the rest of the world. Personally hoping for Destiny + Destiny 2, although I'd accept Innocence R if they want to try to salvage the whole Triverse thing one last time lol.

You guys shouldn't have high hopes for Tales Switch considering it should be out within 5 months (within the current financial year going until next April) in Japan and still hasn't been announced. It has to be a straight port of an older game, and Vesperia would be the best case of such (the possibility of 2D ports is nil imo). A new mothership entry will come much later.

The poll is essentially a covert question whether you imported Japan only Tales games and have played entries consisting of more than the usual TP and/or CC based systems.

Oh my God I love that thread title XD.

I have played basically every Tales game that has come to the west minus Eternia, Destiny ps1 and Phantasia. I tend to gravitate towards team Symphonia basically since I can't play any of team Destiny's games because I don't know Japanese, although I did like Graces quite a bit.

My favorites are Vesperia, Berseria, Xillia 1 and 2 and Abyss, Symphonia I find it a bit archaic but I still like it but not as much as the other ones.
Nice to meet you all!

I think Switch's success make BN changed their plan and it won;t be a simple port anymore. Maybe more effort will be put in it or something.

Probably more Paid DLCs .

Seeing the poll above, it's kinda sad that many games from "Team Destiny" never made it to the West. The Destiny remake, Destiny II and Tales of Rebirth. Now with the rise of digital distribution on consoles as well, I could see a translation and port to PS4 and PC to be somewhat profitable. Before you also had to consider the cost of printing and shipping discs, but you would think the equation looks a bit different in a digital wold. It just seems like a shame to let them be forgotten (no way to play them on modern consoles (or PC), even in Japan).

Yeah those are the only Tales games I haven't played. I always assumed they would at least bring the Destiny ones over at some point since they seem so popular. Never played the original Destiny on PS1 either so it annoys me that I may never understand the obsession with Leon lol.

That's a shame. Destiny PS1 doesn't quite hold up these days and the GBA version of Phantasia has...problems, but Tales of Eternia is very much worth tracking down and experiencing. I love that damn game so much, and that includes its really questionable dub.

I personally couldn't get into Eternia. I don't know what it was. I played through the PS1 version a few years ago, and again on the PSP last year. Magic enemies felt super cheap and just made combat no fun for me. I will say, if anyone is going to play the game, don't get the PSP version; it's a glitchy mess. There are cut-scenes where the wrong voice-overs play, Efreet has a glitch where his sprite turns into a pattern of the PSP's battery icon, and I even had the game completely freeze a couple times.

When it gets delayed beyond the current FY maybe.

Don't worry. Even with having played the original Destiny on PS1 the obsession with Leon seems overblown. Then the sequel and the remake (especially the DC) tried to reflect the obsession. ;)

This, mostly. And I do like Leon a lot, even if I'm forever bitter he gets all the attention, more so than the game's... actual protagonist (I have a bias and I know it). Though in fairness, I think the remake/DC did just incorporate a lot of stuff that had existed for a long time. Everything outside of the original PS1 game, including the novels and drama cds had a lot of things that played to his other sides and made him a lot less one-note (which is how I feel his PS1 incarnation was without any of those extra things). Granted, they did all come after the original game and could have easily played into his popularity, but I feel like those things existed well to flesh him out in the same way other novels/drama cds had fleshed out the other parts of the cast instead of trying to make it The Leon Show, like everything Destiny-related has been since then to play off his popularity.

But I also like the changes the remake made because I prefer him to be a more fleshed out character, even if I do think the love for him can be a bit overblown. I do GET his popularity, though, I just wish it wasn't to the detriment of the rest of the cast, because I love the whole Destiny crew a lot.
