Just got back from seeing the documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor?". For those who don't know it's about the mostly misunderstood Fred Rodgers of "Mister Rodgers' Neighborhood" fame.

Trailer:

RT: 99% of 148 reviews

As someone who never got into Mister Rodgers' Neighborhood and often changed my television to cartoon network/nickelodeon/superheroes/video games/anime/whatever, goddamn this movie hit me like a ton of bricks. It's raw, real, and an emotional powerhouse. This just truthbombed it's way to the top of my movie of the year chart and I can see it winning by a large margin. The parallels of this documentary to this modern life is heart breaking and tear jerking and I think everyone in America The World needs to give this one a chance.

"Mr. Rodgers, I don't feel so good..."

Well, Mister Rodgers is here to dive to the depths of your heart and force choke the darkness out and into the light of hope.

Is this an "Only Americans will get this" type of thing?

I have no idea who he is or why he would have a film made about him.

I can't wait to see this.
I watched Mr. Roger's Neighborhood every day at my Grandma's house as a kid. I love him.

I don't think he's misunderstood at all lol

Except that rumor people spread about him being a former SEALS

I don't get the thread title. Is it implying the Avengers movie was the best movie of the year to OP before this documentary? I hope not lol.

Seems so. I'm with you

Noooooo. It's a very relatable, human story with weirdly and arguably one of the least relatable persons. Yet, it seems like he understood the human spirit and the importance of child psychology and learning. I never watched the show regularly but it's clear from the doc that he spoke to people in ways you don't often see these days and a way the media today has maybe veered from dramatically.

It's sitting at 99% on RT if that's something to say about it. (I'll add scores to the OP later for more evidence) There is much more here worth watching and has a ton of depth to it.

He was misunderstood by many I think. People always questioned what kind of person he was in real life. they address all these rumors and criticisms about him in the movie actually. The guy had been doing his show for decades and has lived through some shit.

Its not. But hey, i think many would probably consider it their favorite movie of the year and i'm offering this as a comparison.

Its a fair criticism. Mr. Rodgers was very much a pound for pound match in the power level that Thanos had.

This was predicted years and years ago, don't you remember?

"The fight raged on for a century
Many lives were claimed but eventually
The champion stood, the rest saw their better
Mr. Rogers in a blood-stained sweater"

As I said in the Box Office, everything was ruined for me when they said he was a lifelong Republican.
He had so many problems with Nixon, yet he voted him in. And then Reagan, and then Bush.
