Unrelated but RE4 is much easier than I expected this time around. Even Regeneradores don't pose a threat. I don't think I can get rid of all this ammo before the game ends

That's what the inventory looks like at the end of every Resident Evil game. K
Only difference is that in other RE games all the hoarding is left in the item box.

Is there though? Even when he's faceless?
Ethan to me screams one-off character. We ever seem him again, it'll be as a joke character for mercs where he wears a bag over his head. Like I can't see 10 years from now people goin "Man I hope Ethan comes back". Like they do for Billy, Carlos, Sheva or other one-offs.

Eh, I suppose there's a chance Capcom just dump Ethan and never re-use him. I hope they don't though, I want them to at least give him one more chance before writing him off completely.

What I liked about Ethan is that everything was new to him, so his reactions to what was going on around him were something we haven't seen since the original games. I hope they bring him back.

I really hope this game is more of an alternate timeline kind of thing instead of a direct carbon copy of the original and its story. For the same reason that remaking FF7 and just improving the graphics / battle system would be a bit underwhelming.

That said, what's been shown looks really good.

They already said they were adding new stuff, about 30% roughly.

Finished RE4, I forgot the boss fight was anticlimactic so I couldn't use everything on it. I don't want Simmons-level of phases but the boss only having one phase is super disappointing imo. I had all of this left

And my result screen, I fell asleep on the game and most of my deaths were either Ashley dying or me going "hmm I wonder if I could clear this room or boss with the fewest amount of bullets necessary and then getting killed". It was fun though.

Overall my opinion of RE4 is higher now than when I first played it back in 2013. Lots of cool moments, lots of interesting set-ups and fights. The issue remains the island for me, that's when I doze off and get bored. Outside of the Regeneradores and the Krauser fight, there isn't much else that I like. Maybe the boss in the caged rooms, it's cool. I wonder how a remake would look like when it's going to happen in 2034. The issue is that this game doesn't need new content, if anything it needs to be leaner. Maybe a second campaign that is more interesting than Separate Ways ?

I seem to remember there being some algorithm that changes the amount of ammo you find according to how you play.
My trick for RE4, RE5 and REV ammo,
upgrade SMGs and use them for headshots and stuff, highpower pistol gets saved for everything else.
Basically do the opposite of what the guns are "intended" for.

playing like that I had ammo for days

No fps analysis from digital foundry? If it is as solid as 7 I might go with PS4 Pro.
I covered the E3 gameplay in an analysis, I DID have some poor quality 60fps feed but not enough to publish. From that 1080/60 pro mode it had dips for sure, but this far out that could and will improve significantly.

The base versions are still targeting 1080/60 with X and Pro offering a 4K/30 mode, PC will have your choice as per specs.

Replaying Code Veronica these last few days, the controversial one. I get it, lots of backtracking, lots of get this item in this part of the map, run all the way to the other part of the map, get something to go all the way back and so on. But it's RE, it's all part of the design, this game is constantly keeping things interesting with new enemies showing up in locations, cool escape scenarios with timers, new enemies and so on. It's so good, the entire island is an interesting location, Steve as annoying as he can be is a great side character with one hell of a story to go with it. Alfred is great in every scene he's in, one of the best psycho Umbrella guys of the series. You have Wesker back, best villain by far. It has tons of action, I think I've killed more zombies so far than in most RE games. It's liberal with the ammo but there is so much to kill that I actually have to be careful.

And now I'm in the second half when it gets fantastic and there are boss battles all the time. Hunters return which are the best BOW. So many incredible moments in this game. Haters be damned, this is the real RE3.

So much talk about a Code Veronica remake. I honestly don't think I can take another playthrough of a game that has Steve Burnside in it.

To be fair, most of the talk is about how bad it is, and remake requests are mostly to fix it. I wouldn't lose any sleep if we never hear the name Code Veronica ever again though.

Looks like someone modded RE0's RE2 factory section and made a "what if" scenario.

Accidentally posted it in another thread when it belongs here.

This is really cool. And while I'm a static camera diehard and prefer the super detailed pre-rendered backgrounds, I kinda like what we're getting more than a straight retread. Like REmake 2 looks so good that its really hard to hate on it and pine for a style of game they're just not making.

The main thing on my mind right now is hoping that the rest of REmake 2 looks as good as the RPD bits we've seen.

Oh for sure, I cannot wait to see all of the other environments like the sewers, the lab and the factory from this video to see what they changed or kept similar.
The remixed music seems to be my concern through some of the locations because that skyrail to the factory had this music that fit a bit too well for it.

I think the camera feels weird in this... its position. I generally don't like OTSV TPS that have a high, offset camera, especially without a shoulder swap.

I prefer a lower camera combined with a shoulder swap. This camera in REmake2 seem a little jank, tbh.

I want to stress that this is not how a modern fixed camera remake would have worked. Because they're doing this real time in the RE engine, they would have likely used scrolling cameras that retain the fixed feel without being as stiff or limiting. This is also obviously inferior to the visual quality of the actual RE2 despite being prerendered since it's pretty much rendered from 2002 assets.

But having said that, even in this thrown together example it's pretty clear how much better the original atmosphere is preserved. The original music works, the emotionally heavy vibe is all there. I just watched the best quality demo of the real remake again and it still strikes me how empty and boring (atmosphere-wise) it seems in comparison. The darkened flashlight hallways and bland ambience has already gotten old for me and I haven't even played the game yet. I actually like how they're handling the combat and balancing overall, but man are they blowing it with capturing that original feeling.

That RE0 mod has like 1/10th of the heavy atmosphere the RE2 Remake gameplay shown at E3. 1998 RE2 is one of my favorite games of all time but the nostalgia glasses are on too tight for some people.

I guess if you just don't care about the importance of music or find dark hallways really scary, sure. Look at all the classic tracks people have been posting in this thread, all of which seem to be missing entirely or given weak little background versions in the new game. There's a lot of the original game's soul being lost through the soundtrack alone.

I'm not really impressed by what the remake is doing... I feel like we've seen the same basic approach before in RE6 and Revelations (but done better this time). I think people are getting carried away by how amazing the RE engine looks. Maybe it'll feel a lot different when actually playing it....

Yes, missing... in the 20-minute demo of a likely 8-10 hour game :P And the atmosphere is still there and oppressive as ever with the ambience. Remember, one of the original composers is doing the REmake 2 OST, so it's still the original creator's vision for the remake.

We've at least seen enough to know that the main hall theme, save room theme, first floor theme, second floor theme, and library theme are gone or given extremely watered down versions... Those areas pretty much accounted for the heart of the game. Unless things radically change after the RPD, music seems to play a small role in the remake, which is a trend in a lot of modern games. I don't even remember a note of RE7 outside of the save room music, this seems to be taking the same route.

The original composer being on board is great but the fact is that the game is going a fundamentally different direction and they're obviously not trying to keep the original mood. To some people that's exciting. To me, a RE2 remake that ditches the best parts of RE2 makes me wonder why they didn't just make a new game. If you want something bold and new, make something new. If you want to remake something, do justice to it. Don't discard the very things that made it good in the first place.

And I can't help but disagree again on the atmosphere. Even within this series alone, the "spooky flashlight" bit has been done to death.

The remake has a cheaper atmosphere based off of easier scares. There are more zombies, more jump scares, more gore. And in regards to the "spooky flashlight" stuff, I've seen a Valve developer's guide that even warns against using it much as it gets tiresome fast. That's the kind of stuff the remake's atmosphere looks to be based off of; things that get old fast. The original atmosphere was based on artistic talent; they had dramatic camera angles and compositions combined with powerful music to create the mood. It was emotionally intense, which remained true even in the safe areas and after replaying over and over.

I'm not saying people shouldn't be excited for the remake, I'm just saying that it's failing with a lot of the qualities that made the original such an achievement. I don't know. Maybe I'm just getting too old for this shit.
