To be blunt, I thought the first Defenders was terrible. The Hand sucked, the fights sucked, Danny sucked (mostly), Matt sucked, Luke and Jessica were alright, the story sucked, it was so dark (cinematography wise), no notable music, no stand-out scenes that I can recall, etc...

But, still, there's potential in the Defenders I think. Do you want another season, and what do you wanna see? How can they improve?

Number 1 potential improvement:

Nah. It was a nice idea but I find the writing of the Netflix shows spotty and inconsistent at best, The Punisher and 65% of Luke Cage aside.

Going to second that Heroes for Hire should be it's own thing with Luke and Dannt. They work well together. Hell throw JJ in there too and condense three shows.

Yeah. The first series had lackluster villains and a mediocre story but the character interactions were the highlight. That's why I also think Luke Cage and Iron Fist should become one show.

I agree that the first season sucked, but that was all down to the writing. There was some real chemistry between most of the cast, though. Give them a story worth telling and you'll have me watching again.

Feige needs to oversee the TV department. They can't put out a consistent season for the life of them.

I liked Danny a lot more than his stand alone show. I'd be down for more of him and Luke Cage.

The problem is the showrunner or whoever is making these seasons 4 episodes too long.

I would like to see them take another crack at it but Netflix's Marvel shows are all over the place in quality atm. If they can make a series of The Defenders that manages to come close to Luke Cage S2/Punisher/Daredevil then that'd be great but that first Defenders season was only slightly better than Iron Fist S1.

That's why I also think Luke Cage and Iron Fist should become one show.
Man, fuck that. They should just kill off Iron Fist, take the L and move on. His interaction with Luke Cage are better but they're only better because they lean into how much of an unlikeable dweeb IF season one made him, he's still terrible.

Sure. The characters are fun playing off of one another. Matt and Jess were a fun pair. And the show's use of color was a fun way of blending the different shows.

It's been a downhill ride since dd s1, so no.

Wouldn't mind them trying something new, maybe something a bit goofier, like agents.

Not really, I'm good. Just continue to have them pop in and out of each others' seasons.

I really liked season 1. It was like Daredevil season 2.5, which is probably why I liked it as much as I did. It even made Iron Fist bearable, as he was a figurative and literal punching bag for the rest of the team...especially Luke Cage. The character interactions and their ribbing of one another were the best parts of the show.

I think they need much more of a plan than they had the first time (making The Hand into the main villain of Daredevil S2 *and* Iron Fist *and* The Defenders was, uh, not a good idea). And they need to actually succeed in having a good season of Iron Fist first (literally throw out all the writers and start from scratch and just reset his personality to something different please, it's okay to do to Iron Fist what Thor: Ragnarok did to Thor).

I think we'll get it but my hope is that it is on Disney's streaming service -- perhaps a hook for Marvel fans at or around launch, along with a the new untitled Marvel series and a potential season 7 of SHIELD.

And my hope is that they can end up having more ties to the greater MCU if that happens. Give me Ghost Rider on that team.

I thought The Punisher s1 was okay. I didn't like some of the hyper violence, but I know that that's just the way the character is supposed to be.

I mean, this isn't true. They've been on an upswing with Jessica and Luke S2.

Punisher. JJ S2. And now LC S2. Definitely not perfect of course, but yea, Iron Fist and Defenders (and Luke Cage's 2nd half) have been the only real misfires IMO.

Luke Cage literally has to comment multiple times during Season 2 to Danny "Hey, you seem different..." while Danny manages to not be an insufferable asshole.

They're trying to undo the damage lol

Nope. Iron Fist actually killed my enthusiasm for almost this whole endeavor have not mustered up the motivation to watch jessica jones s2 and luke cage s2.
I'm probably going to check into daredevil s3 maybe and call it quits.

Instead of defenders, like cage 3, or iron fist 2, I just want heroes for Hire.

Keep daredevil and Jessica jones on their own with team ups at times, but combine iron fist and like cage into heroes for hire because it's a much better dynamic for both of them

Only if they kill off the Sand Snake. Colleen even brings down Misty in her scenes in Luke S2. I'll never understand why Colleen needed 10 min long monologues in each episode of Defenders.

I don't think Iron Fist deserves the hate that it gets after the first two or three episodes. Some of the stuff in the middle is quite good. Especially almost any scene with Colleen Wing!

Everything in Iron Fist is worthy of utter derision other than Rosario Dawson who is trying to make it not suck, and like 2 episodes towards the end of the season. That's literally it.

I actually just went back to edit in Punisher. They've had three good seasons in a row on Netflix.

That combined with SHIELD continuing to be fantastic, Runaways having a solid first season and Cloak & Dagger bring great has shown that Marvel TV bounced back from the one-two Buck punch of Iron Fist and Inhumans.

(I understand thinking Defenders was disappointing but I won't put it alongside Iron Fist and Inhumans.)

Honestly, Defenders outed her as not being all that great of an actress. It's a lot easier to not see it in Iron Fist because the dude that plays Danny was even worse lol

That said, I did enjoy her in the latest season of Luke Cage. I dunno, you get rid of the Hand shit, and it becomes a lot easier to tolerate I guess.

It's ridiculous how much cooler Colleen was over Danny. She totally should have her own show.

Honestly, I don't think I even want Netflix Marvel to continue. It started great, but has be come unwatchablely bad (IMO).

There is always room for improvement though, and should they rework things majorly, I might be in.

The hand was overused by that point featuring in DD series 2, IF and Defenders.

A second series with a fresh enemy would be better.

I am very much comfortable doing that. Aside from the epic disappointment (Jeez, imagine if the Avengers ended up being that bad), honestly the only real thing holding it together for me was the character interactions, namely from Jessica and Matt. At that point, who wasn't tired by the Hand at that point, everyone still hated Danny, the main villain got dealt with in an embarrassing way, the season had 8 episodes yet somehow still felt badly paced, and so on.

Show wasn't Iron Fist bad, but it was damn close.

They really need to fix Danny for it.

Also felt like Jessica was the only one whose time with the Defenders didn't really had an impact on her solo series, everybody else had big changes (example: you'd have to watch Defenders to know why Misty Knight only has one arm in Luke Cage S2)

I think we're more likely to see Heroes For Hire, Daughters Of The Dragon, and whatever a Jessica Jones/Daredevil show would be called.

I enjoyed it a lot and didn't mind Danny Rand, but I also had skipped his show anyway so he was a fresh character to me.

Yes. Jessica and Matt had good chemistry. Danny was 100% better in this season of Luke Cage so if that means he's found his niche then I'm all for it.
