Love him or hate him, this kid's whole persona - regardless how much controversial and most oftend than not flat out wrong outside the pitch - has all ingredients of mythmaking that forged the world's best football players not just right at this moment in time, but of all time. I'm glad that I live in a time that I can see him playing live, just like my father saw Garrincha, Maradona and Pelé.

i'd say he's more of a peter pan than a robin hood

Disgusting tackle but his explanation is amusing.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/06/roy-keane-alf-inge-haaland-book

However, Keane also goes on to say in his new book, The Second Half, that he has never regretted slamming his studs into the knee of the Manchester City player. Haaland, he says, "pissed me off, shooting his mouth off. He was an absolute prick to play against. Niggling, sneaky. I did want to nail him and let him know what was happening. I wanted to hurt him and stand over him and go: 'Take that, you cunt.' I don't regret that. But I had no wish to injure him.

"It was action; it was football. It was dog eats dog. I've kicked lots of players and I know the difference between hurting somebody and injuring somebody. I didn't go to injure Haaland. When you play sport, you know how to injure somebody.

"There was no premeditation. I'd played against Haaland three or four times between the game against Leeds, in 1997, when I injured my cruciate and the game when I tackled him, in 2001, when he was playing for Manchester City. If I'd been this madman out for revenge, why would I have waited years for an opportunity to injure him?

Yeah, notice how those two gifs don't even show the fouls. People don't care that attacking players get fouled, they just don't agree with how much pain they're supposed to feel after a foul.

Yeah, look how hurt he was, so hurt he couldn't even wait for the doctors to check him once the card was given.

Henderson reaction yesterday was very much about this, "exaggerating" to bring attention to a violent foul is something football players do out of necessity, not because "cheating".
Sorry, but that is bullshit.
First of all, you don't need to bring attention to a foul.
Second most of the time, it aren't even hard fouls players receive, but still act like they were just shot in their foot.

Do y'all remember that time Argentina was so scared of facing off against Peru on the 1986 WC qualifiers that an argentinian player broke the leg of the player that was going to mark Maradona? Fun times

this might be true now, but that wasn't always the case, especially before the VAR.

I wouldn't bother trying to get a response from ZattMurdock, he's too busy in the Brazil OT accusing everyone of, and I quote "casual racism".

So apparently anyone who doesn't agree with him is a racist. How does he function day-to-day as an adult?

Trying to twist distaste for Neymar's antics into racism is some Olympic-level mental gymnastics.

DCEU Era already ignores him. Not sure about Marvel Era.

this might be true now, but that wasn't always the case, especially before the VAR.

There's some serious misconception here and on social media about the VAR. Not only it's going through the obvious growing pains and messing it up from time to time, VAR isn't supposed to intervene when a player suffers a "normal" foul or even to say if the ball went out of the pitch or not. I read an article that explained the refs recommendations for the VAR use and while the rules aren't entirely clear, we still pretty much have a human ref on the pitch that has the final say. He can easily even ignore a VAR recommendantions if the foul is for an yellow card or less, like it happened countless times in the WC already. Players overreact to get attention of the ref that is on the picth, not the VAR.

EDIT:

Here's the article I was talking about:

What decisions can it be used for?

The VAR system is designed to support the decision-making process in four game-changing situations: the awarding of goals and penalty kicks, the issuing of straight red cards and cases of mistaken identity. The referee on the pitch can request assistance with these decisions from, or it can be recommended by, a video officials team, who they are in radio communication with and are watching footage for "clear and obvious errors". The on-field referee has the final say. They may have been talked through what the footage shows, or watched replays on a pitch-side monitor.

I must say, I've rather enjoyed being drawn back into football a little this World Cup. And this thread has had a role to play in that.

What I haven't appreciated quite so much is being re-introduced to that fucking Gala Freed From Desire song that all the fans seem to chant.

Hated it the first time round, hate it now. But it was in that Swedish fan reaction video someone posted earlier and it's been stuck in my head since.

Therefore I hate my head and I'm not sure I've ever known self-loathing quite like it.

Please watch this video. I promise it has absolutely nothing to do with that song. Honest.
