+1 for Haunting Ground. Played it for the first time a few years ago and LOVED it, became an instant classic horror title in my eyes.

This is quite unsung in PS2 end days...

Lower sales after the first game, and make us fans doubt if ever the 3rd game would localized eventually (it did in the end though).

But I've play it, and it's one of Greatest of All Time for me.

Glad to hear all the love for Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter as that's my vote for best PS2 game.

Here's a no-brainer - since you mentioned Siren: Blood Curse, make sure to play Siren 1 & 2 if you haven't already. They're both fantastic games (better than the PS3 game IMO), although Siren 1 in particular is quite difficult. Siren 2 isn't available in NA but it was released in EU.

Yeah, has no one put the English translation in the Japanese version of Siren 2 so we can have a 60Hz version?

Shameful.

I mean OP didn't specify, but sometimes I think it would be a more fruitful discussion as well as more rewarding if some people explained why they should play any of these games... I mean, after all, we're all strangers, putting down a list without saying anything about your choices makes it hard to gauge if something is worth trying or not (nothing is self evident).

So here's 2 titles that I am personally enjoying for the first time in 2018, and had never heard of until recently:

Flipnic, which is...just strange and not really like anything else I've seen:

And Ring of Red, which I am currently enjoying a lot more than I expected, after hearing that it has very long/slow battles. It's very much in the "mechs but with mundane technical limitations" genre:

I actually have very few PS2 games, so the ones I have are gems to me I guess:

Star Ocean: Till The End of Time
Final Fantasy 12
Persona 3 FES
Front Mission 4
Front Mission 5 (Translated)

Used to think I liked Star Ocean 3, but went back to it a few months ago and the intro is so slow and the characters/writing were so bad it made me want to peel my own face off, and I quit.

P3 FES is still rad tho.

Oh I think its cheesy too, but I like it nonetheless (story, battle system, soundtrack).

Resurrected my PS3 mainly for Siren Blood Curse and Splinter Cell Blacklist, but it's also a backwards compatible model so was thinking of getting some PS2 games through Ebay and whatnot to play older stuff I missed.or haven't played in forever

- Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare
- Chaos Legion
- Forbidden Siren 2

- Shadow Hearts series
- Shadow of Rome
- Suikoden 5
- The Nightmare before Christmas Oogie's Revenge
- Way of the Samurai 1/2
- Breath of Fire 5
- Devil Summoner 2
- Grandia 3
- Radiata Stories
- Romancing SaGa Ministrel Song
- Valkyrie Profile 2

It's taken this long to mention Okami? C'mon.

Games even coming out to Switch next week. No excuses, buy this masterpiece already.

I thought it was the unwritten rule that if you don't put any info other than a list then your post is basically ignored, unless the OP knows you well and already trusts your opinion.

Or maybe I'm the only one who thought that... Lol

Right now my list of possibilities includes:
- Burnout 3 Takedown
- Silent Hill 2/3/4
- Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow
- God Hand
- Fatal Frame 2
- The Thing
- Rule of Rose
- Shadow of Rome
- SSX Tricky/3
Many of these were very popular

No one has mentioned Okage: Shadow King so it's time to prove my hipster cred.

Okage.jpg

Though not particularly brilliant with its gameplay, Okage stands out for its bizarre characters and quirky atmosphere that's something like Paper Mario as told by Tim Burton. It's the rare occurrence of a bad, overly literal translation working in the game's favour, as it gives the zany tone a sincerity it would lack from the more natural, joke-filled translation it would get today.

Is Downhill Domination unsung?

It was a blast to play with a great sense of speed. Just the right amount of arcadey goofiness what with being able to kick and toss bottles at opponents.

Drakan The Ancients Gates.

Once you get used to the controls (which are pretty tanky), it is a really cool fantasy game.

I would say:

Haunting Ground
Maximo
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
The Warriors

Only one mention of Robot Alchemic Drive so I'll co-sign that one. Especially if you're a fan of Pacific Rim or Big-O or any mecha property that focus on the weight and size of the machines.

Controls are strange. In short, you're controlling a human who is controlling the mech from the outside. So as the human you need to climb tall buildings to get good vantage point, then switch to remotely control the mech. To move the mech, the shoulder buttons handle the feet while each analog stick controls its arms. It's cumbersome and difficult to get your head around at first. But when it clicks and you rotate the right stick to throw a haymaker knocking a kaiju through ten buildings, it's an awesome feeling.
This is absolutely my pick. Extremely strange and fun.

Jaws is hilarious.

And I think you may appreciate disaster report.

Downhill domination is the only good mountain biking game and is f****** lit.

A lot of people don't know what the term unsung means it seems.....

Anyway, my answer is MegaManX 8. Personally, it's probably my fifth favorite of the franchise, and I think it's the best 2D shooting platformer on the PS2 for what it's worth. Noone seems to even consider any of the X games past 4 as worthwhile games, but 8 is fantastic, and now that we finally have a modern method to play the game I'm hoping the game gets the love it deserved at launch. I think the game's sales and word of mouth were severely stifled by the trash pile that was 7.

Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast is an absolutely amazing racer. I always pop it in every few weeks to get a race or two in. Its pretty cheap, too, I highly recommend it!

The Shadow Hearts trilogy and Grandia 3 immediately comes to mind. Wish someone would remaster Shadow Hearts, the game was a breathe of fresh air for the JRPG genre.
