You wondered why a new character from a well received game with unique move set potential, and was Farley recent was getting in over characters from franchises that were already there or hadn't had an appearance in years?
Seeing Twilight Princess Zelda in those screenshots made me realize that I'm going to miss her. I don't dislike ALttP Zelda at all, but TP Zelda was a different archetype I liked.

Shulk was a great pick. Xenoblade is like a reverse Fire Emblem, in that it was relatively unknown in the west until Martha and Roy were in Melee, leading to fan demand for the games to come over. Xenoblade had a huge campaign to be brought over to North America, and sold it's entire production run, leading to Nintendo realizing the potential of the series and putting Shulk into Smash.
That character select is honestly a travesty. Yoshi mixed in with the Mario characters? Characters sorted by year of introduction, except Bowser Jr. and Jigglypuff for some reason? Clones in their own corner, after everyone else, except the third party characters and also Shulk for some reason?

Sorry that you lost a look you like but frankly that's one of the things I'm happiest about.
I really don't like TP's art style and in particular it's my least favorite Zelda design.

ALttP Zelda is cool, though. I used to like that Zelda/Link/Ganondorf had uniform depictions from the same games but the depictions they went with this time spanning multiple generations of the series is definitely interesting. I think it makes them look a lot less cohesive and a bit more random, but I think I just have to get used to it.
The different generations of characters are pretty neat when you think about their perspectives on each other.
TP Ganondorf as an alt a la "The Ikes" using his Sage Sword would be consolation enough for me as a TP fan

I feel like all the Zelda characters being cohesive was kind of thrown out the window with Toon Link.
I just found TP Zelda kind of boring with her stoic look.
Didn't help that we had her for three games so at this point any change was kind of a relief.
The fun part of me loves this art, the nit picker in me wants to point out that those versions of Link and Zelda still should have heard of Ganondorf.
LttP Zelda should know Ganondorf since his backstory as the prince of thieves and name "Ganondorf Dragmire" came from that game. I'm not as sure about BotW Link though, since Urbosa is the only one who comments on how legends say Calamity Ganon once had a human form.

It seems to me that the divine reincarnations of both Link and Zelda (Hylia) ought to always be able to recognize the reincarnations of Demise but yeah

Only tangentally related, but the relationship between Hylia and post Skyward Sword Zelda kind of bothers me. It's very clear that Hylia reincarnated as a mortal because of Triforce rules shenanigans, and it gives SS this kind of duality as a charcter, in that she has a seperate self ignorant of her divinity before the game kicks off, and seems to acknowledge that she is both Hylia and still Zelda afterwards, even though the two aren't quite one in the same. Afterwards though, I don't believe Hylia continues to reincarnate as Zelda in the same way that the Spirit of the Hero continues to reincarnate as Link. In BotW, Hylia seems to be a completely separate entity to Zelda, who communicates with Zelda through vision and directly to Link via the shrine statutes. There's also the matter of Demise's curse, in that he specifically calls out "those who share the blood of the Goddess and the Spirit of the Hero" implying a distinction between the two, in that the Zeldas are descendants of Hylia/Zelda, but not Hylia herself as the original Zelda was, while all Link's are direct reincarnations of SS Link... except for maybe WW Link and his line afterwards, who seems to be an originally unconnected character who filled the void in the absence of the Hero's Spirit due to time travel shenanigans.

Black Gamecube is still the best looking Nintendo console outside the Switch. Third place is Wii.

(Though this brings up a silly consideration: Shouldn't the Gerudo wear more skin coverage, like real world desert-living people? You don't want your skin constantly exposed to the sun and sand.)

The black Gamecube may look better than the other models, but it's really not that great looking.
Now the original Famicom, that's a nice looking console! Love the colors. The Wii is great looking too, just for how simple and sleek it is.

I think that the answer is as simple as that reincarnations of the Hero are straightforward player-character Coolguys while Hylia reincarnations via Zelda have to have some attunement to the sealing power via "faith" or some such spiritual shite.
Basically Link has plot armor via the Master Sword (and kinda Fi tbh) while Zelda has to put in the work each time by praying and attuning her individual spirit to that of the Goddess's inside of her or something.
