E3 may be in our rear view like a fall leaf in Forza Horizon 4, but we've been busy updating the Xbox experience and adding features that you've requested. The July Xbox Update adds features that make finding content even easier and offers a host of improvements to Mixer. Here's what's new:

FastStart_ProductUX_Animation.gif

FastStart Enabled for Select Titles
Announced back at E3 2018, FastStart is a new innovation from our Xbox Platform team that allows you to jump into your games twice as fast and play after downloading just a fraction of it. FastStart works by identifying which files are needed to begin playing and prioritizes the download of those files first, enabling you to quickly jump into full-fidelity gameplay while the remainder of your title downloads in the background. Simply find the FastStart-enabled title you want to play in our catalog, hit 'Download' and your console will take care of the rest. It's that simple. What's more, it's now enabled for select English language titles in our Xbox Game Pass catalog, and will expand to more games in more languages over time. You can learn more about FastStart here.

Group Your Games and Apps
With so much content available, fans have asked for more options to organize libraries of games and apps. Today, we're introducing a powerful new enhancement to Pins, which we call "Groups." With Groups, you can create multiple collections of content made up of anything from within My Games & Apps. You can also assign custom names to each Group, organize and order them, and add individual Groups to Home. Groups will appear across My Games & Apps, Home and Guide, so you'll be able to access your Groups at a moment's notice. Best of all, Groups are tied to your Xbox Live account, so they will automatically sync across multiple Xbox One consoles. We've started you off with a Group that should look very familiar — your Pins!

Search-gif-blurred.gif

More Search Options
Searching for content is now even easier! Now pressing the Y button anywhere in the dashboard will bring up the search dialog, allowing you to easily launch your content, sift through Settings, or find products in the Store. This process is found in many apps, but now you can do it anywhere within the dashboard. Not seeing enough results for your search? Hit enter or click the "more results" button to view a full page for your search results.

Mixer Share Controller Improvements
We've made it easier to use Share Controller on the web. First, we've enabled full mouse and keyboard support for PC users, along with Share Controller Key Bindings.

Second, we've added multi-touch support for touch-enabled devices. This allows multiple controls to be used at the same time! For example, you can control the joystick and press A at the same time on your touch laptop.

And lastly, we've added a per-channel leaderboard that spotlights viewers who have contributed to a streamer's channel the most during a Share Controller session.

Full Screen Broadcasting on Mixer
Mixer streamers can now go full screen with their webcam while broadcasting. You can switch to full screen webcam broadcasting at any time you want. While in this mode game audio is muted, making it perfect for talking to your audience while switching from game to game or setting up before you start playing. You can even do all IRL broadcasts!

For the best experience we recommend using one of these cameras:

  • Microsoft LifeCam Studio
  • Logitech HD Pro Webcam C922
  • Logitech Webcam C930e
  • Microsoft LifeCam HD-3000
Console broadcasting quality and stability improvements
We've made a number of changes and fixes to improve overall broadcast video quality. You will now experience improved performance when broadcasting bandwidth-heavy multiplayer.

All of these updates are available because of the Xbox Insiders who have helped shape these features, so big thanks to all of you for your valuable input. If you'd like to help create the future of Xbox and get access to early features, download the Xbox Insider Hub app on your Xbox One or Windows 10 PC. You can also visit the Xbox Insider blog here for the latest release notes and to learn more. Happy gaming!

This is a nice surprise! I can't wait to get my hands on the "groups" feature as I love folders on PS4. That and the near-universal search function are game-changers for me. Now we just need a wish list feature on the store or at least the ability to pin/group items from the store on the console itself.

Groups has been great for me in the preview, I have them pinned as Playing, Started, Next, Kids

The memberships rework in My Games and Apps to Game Pass, Gold, EA Access is lovely too.

Great use of groups. I need to drill down and start making some. I just have one big 'PLAYING NOW' group which is basically just my PINS from before. Need to use it more! I've really enjoyed folders on PS4 and this is essentially the same thing.

I wonder if searching for owned and available DLC content is still going to be a pain in the ass. This is a major annoyance in games like Forza which have different versions of the game(s) and tons of DLC to choose from.

Has no one ever complained about that annoying as fuck purple streaming overlay bar? I never stream on my X because of that.

Xbox one the most supported and updated console this gen?

From their manufacturer of course
Certainly in terms of features, but I still think the UI - whilst certainly very practical - remains ugly. It doesn't help that it only renders at 1080p even on the X.

I'm totally baffled by that decision. Would having the UI rendering at 4K really have taken that much RAM away from the devs? The UI on PS4 looks so much cleaner and the dynamic themes can really make things looks very slick indeed.

Also why are there still only two themes (light/dark) to choose from on XBO?! I mean, the 360 had themes, why on earth do we still not have themes on XBO after 5 years?

Ugh. I hope I don't get it for some time. I just left the preview program because the beta build broke Vudu for me.

No mention of fixing the Atmos issue huh?
Could you please elaborate on what's going on with Atmos? A google search just returns a bunch of various problems people are having. Are you referring to Xbox pushing all audio as Atmos currently, or something else?
I have my X running through an Atmos system, and some sources are super loud and others I have to jack the volume way up. Inconsistent...
Thanks!

too bad the gamepass tab hasn't made it in yet. Not having to launch the store to download games is a blessing

Groups is a great addition, if not overdue. I never understand (this goes for basically the whole console industry) why folders tend to be such a late addition.

Always strange to see people get excited for features you have been using for two months already. But it's a very good update.

Groups are still really broke in the Alpha ring, going to be a fun ride for the public if the same issues we are facing with groups rears it's head in public. When they work I love groups but only the first 2 alpha builds had consistent working groups, they have been broken since.

Basically game/app icons in groups vanish or go blank, app and games you add to group can vanish an hour after you added them. Reported the issue a ton on my console and nothing, posted about it on reddit and other are seeing the same thing

You can use groups from guide.
Which is a true godsend if you switch game to game.

So you can use regular web cams on the xbox one?

Yeah MS unlocked the platform some time ago.

Use any brand webcam

Use any brand mic and still get voice commands

Probably cuz they knew the kinect was dying but system level voice commands were still a must.

Weird. Ever since the bug that repeated your groups over and over, I have had 0 issues with the implementation. I'm curious if it's A/B setup for Alpha ring and testing the Groups feature.

Pro Tip: there's a weird workaround for those wanting a wish list feature on Xbox. You can actually pin games/apps you don't own on the Xbox App. Then, on your console, you can add them to a new group, which you can name "Wishlist." It's a lot of work for something that hopefully will be painlessly added soon, but for those who really want to keep track of those sleeper games they may forget about (Observer, for me!), it's worth making note of.

I have made similar groups.

The games I'm currently playing, a backlog, arcade games that I've always come back to play a bit, MP games, local mp games for when friends come over, and one just for apps.

Thanks!

Came into this thread hoping to see the Atmos fix as part of the change log.

I feel like the Atmos issue isn't really just a singular problem, but rather just a slew of issues and bugs. For instance, in my case, games that are Dolby Atmos enabled exhibit really distracting popping and crackling, whereas Dolby Atmos while watching Blu Rays is perfectly OK. I've read that others have issues where the XBOX won't let the receiver automatically switch to Atmos decoding, or that the option itself is entirely greyed out even though their home theater system is capable.

It's been a mess for a long long while now...

Groups are cool I guess but I would rather have an ability to create automatic groups based on what genre the Store lists it as. Maybe they could add custom tags like Steam and then you could create groups from that. Anyway, I doubt I will use the groups much unless it is more automated, I don't feel like spending time organizing stuff.

Even on my phone I have just given up and just use the Frequently used apps feature on the Microsoft Launcher as my home screen. If I need to drill down I can look through apps by letter.

That's a great idea, thanks for that.
