This game is fucking rad, it is 100% about fundamentals. If you've been jaded with recent execution heavy fighters you NEED this. Also the controls mean you dont have to worry about the switch dpad being garbo. Every character is almost like a fighting game discipline in itself. Its really cool.

Heard it's a bit harsh/cheap versus the AI in Arcade mode even on lower difficulties. Any truth to this?

I know it's an indie game, but surprised by the lack of reviews for this. Been hyped for it but need more impressions.

I've never heard a single thing from them about either the Switch or PC version, in spite of first sending press requests back in March of last year. In fact, I had no idea it'd gone to Steam Early Access until someone mentioned it on Era. Not sure what's going on over at Cardboard Robot.

I wouldn't call it cheap, but it's definitely harder than most fighting games from the start/first fight.
The AI adds pressure but I never found it unfair.

Yeah... After playing a bit more, indeed the AI reads movement and in the third match you cannot pass without resorting to spam.
Hope they patch this up sooner than later.

Yeah the variety is pretty staggering, so much creativity on display in the roster. Quite liking the werewolf guy and the girl with the cat so far, though I need to stop pressing L+H too early with the latter D:

how are the controls simplified? Are there quarter circle moves etc or have they been replaced by other motions?

I tried reading the wiki but only found stuff like the move buffering system (which sounds interesting).

This game is GOOD. I really enjoy Quinn. As a big Neo Geo Pocket fan (and collector) this game is like nostalgic soup for the soul. lol That said I feel like this type of gameplay is needed in today's FGC. Sort of like Divekick but just complex enough to have legs.

No QCF. Instead, everything seems to be diagonal down and diagonal forward + A or B (or both).

Oh man looking at the KS page and bummed we'll never see The Fencer from nidhogg as a DLC character. Seems like the perfect art style for some other indie crossovers (shovel knight, etc...).

Okay, this game rules. So worth the wait.

Yeah, the AI isn't great. I played through it on normal and the fights ranged from incredibly easy to surprisingly difficult with no real in-between. It also reads movements pretty heavily, unfortunately. Hopefully it'll see improvements down the line.

That being said, I still got through it with not too much trouble and still had a lot of fun. However, I'm pretty experienced in fighting games, so if you aren't your mileage may vary.

Bought it and it's fun so far. The movement feels a bit sluggish for some reason though. I wonder what the input lag is on this.

EDIT: The buttons feel fine actually, but for whatever reason the movement feels off to me.

I've just gotta say, GameXplain's video of it is probably one of the worst demonstrations of a fighting game that I have ever seen.

Yea, this was my first glimpse of the game. I used to have an NGPC and some of the fighters, so this appeals to me, but that video turned me right off.

I'll pay attention to other impressions and stick it on my wishlist, but yea...

Oh wow, good game but the initial difficulty is rough. I'm no fighting game expert by any metric, but the starting fight had me thoroughly stomped in every mode. Execution can be tough with either the stick or the joycon directionals. There's a good game in there but it's gated behind a first-minute call of 'get good'.

Any fellow scrubs may have an issue getting started. It'll be fun with friends, though.

What do you mean by this? I'm torn because fighters are the only genre I have no interest in playing on Switch due to not caring about playing them portably and the D pad being trash, but I'm still extremely tempted to pick this up even if for a chill casual experience.

Would be nice if the matchmaking didn't pair top players with bottom ones. I'm guessing the player pool isn't large enough to keep them from being put together every now and then.

The commands are simplified so you don't have to enter motions, you just hold say down-forward or down-back and then hit A or B to do a special. Rolling inputs is where the trouble comes with fighting games on the Switch but that isn't an issue here, angled inputs seem to register just fine from hitting the two buttons at the same time.

is there no way to disable the Left analog stick shortcuts? Accidentally clicking in the left analog stick seems to register as L+H

The Switch dpad suffers in FGs due to how hard it is to do QCF and other motions. Pocket Rumble has no such motions. All specials are performed by holding down-back or down-forward plus a button.

This game is becoming more fun the more I played it, just won a couple matches online too, so I'm not total garbo!!

I wish the controls were more customizable. I don't see why they can't be. Holding a button for a special is messing with my brain

I think I honestly prefer playing with the Joy-Con directional buttons. It's easier for me to tell when I'm holding straight down vs down diagonal for attacks. I really love this so far.

But holy SHIT the AI is such a try hard. This is the only fighting game I've ever played where I feel like I need to go play online to stop getting my ass kicked. Usually it's the other way around. I hope they update the game to add more variety to the difficulty.

I get that too. It just moves a different. I'm guessing the models are 3d and not actually 2d, which is why it moves kinda like that.

Has anyone played this with the pro controller? Surely the d pad on that should be great for this, and best option? I can't use the directional controls, even though that is more accurate. It just feels to weird.

The AI in this game is cheap. Even on the easiest difficulty in VS CPU they read your inputs like crazy. You can't adjust difficulty in career or arcade mode either to ease yourself into the game...

I've been playing fighting games for decades now and this is definitely SNK/OG Super Turbo levels of BS with AI. I figured out how to win but you basically have to resort to cheap tactics which isn't fun at all. I finally beat arcade mode by using Quinn and immediately turning into a Werewolf then mashing the B button. You can take off over half a life bar because it does insane chip damage.

If you're more a casual fighting game player do not get this game. The computer AI is just plain not fun to fight against. Stick to online once rankings get sorted out or playing with friends. There's a good game in here for sure. The mechanics are fun and the roster is great, but at the moment it's dissapointing to see a game that champions itself on accessibility have such ridiculous AI. It's gonna turn off a lot of people.

So, still trying to get used to this. The buffer on attacks and holding for special moves definitely the hardest roadblock.

Also, there's some Quinn spam going on where once he's werewolf they just spam this tackle forward attack. It's so fast I can't beat it or even escape seemingly. I play as June (for now). What do?

The AI is balls hard.

Why are specials mapped to diagonals instead of just cardinal directions ala Smash Bros? You should be able to switch, i'm not really feelin it.
It's exploiting an attempt to incentivise growth in new markets, or markets with an exceptionally weak currency.
This is a multi-regional board and people will post the price of games in their region. What people choose to do with that information is on them.

People looking to exploit the other regions to save money are already checking those eshops themselves, anyway.

This game's frame data

According to this you should be able to use her down-back B invulnerable start up frames to punish him

I'm loving this, it feels far faster and more solid than I thought. Having lots of fun playing as Naomi and the online is surprisingly smooth despite playing with wifi (yeah yeah).

I'm feeling this so bad lol. After doing the tutorial I got my ass kicked for like 15 minutes on Arcade until I went to ranked and got my first wins.

Glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with the AI. I played a bunch online last night and got smacked around on there too but at least it was closer most of the time.
