The American definition of being "nice" to other countries and people continues to demonstrate to me that my definition of nice and the American definition are on opposite sides of the universe.

Exactly the logic of the Japanese internment camps

Trump isn't fit to lick these guys' boots and he wants to kick them out despite them being willing to salute even a feckless baboon like him out of love for this country

just go watch Fox news to find out their talking points
Can't be bothered to give a propaganda outlet even a second of attention so that won't be happening. Was more interested in what Republicans here think of this, given they're the party of patriots and all that.

What a disgraceful way to attack a path to citizenship by a petty puppet.

Man it's crazy that most republicans will be ok with this.

I would have thought they would have stayed away from the military.

I guess we can go lower (sadly I say this pretty much every week like clockwork).

that's the thing, they don't have an opinion other than what they're told. My parents fall into this category (they don't watch Fox however, but they listen to other conservative outlets)

It will be the usual but democrats deflection. Already saw one guy ranting about how stupid this was because democrats could get IT workers from Pakistan etc. So mad about the situation but still finding ways to deflect to others.

You don't want the armed forces empathizing with the immigrants they're going to be ordered to cleanse at the border when Trump declares an emergency and deploys them.

The next DDD trifecta and DoJ needs to root out those in the military authorizing these discharges and bring them to justice.

It seems to be done through the screening process; the background check requirements have been made more stringent to the point that even family ties to certain foreign countries aren't allowed (which, duh, every immigrant has.) Since they can't be cleared, they can't be activated for duty... not primarily a military issue, more of a DHS thing.

Wait, I actually didn't know military service was a path to citizenship. Glad that's a thing but jesus fucking christ at this bullshit. I thought repubs/trumpers were "ok" with immigrants who come here legally and that it's not about racism but the law. Guess not.

Congressional investigations to find the root cause and decision makers regardless of the agency responsible, just like how a large swathe of ICE leadership needs to be charged and sent to the Hague.

Maybe it's for the best

Why fight and bleed for a country that will always hate you because of your skin color?

Moderates are too busy lecturing us on who we can call Nazis, alt-right, racists, etc. It is important to defend against such labels, and they are the wise middle men to guide us from their soap box.

This kind of stuff passes by them by.

pretty sure you need to have a green card to serve in the army, not just a visa (outside of MAVNI which has been suspended)

As long as you have intent to serve honorably even serving just via boot camp is enough to be classified as a veteran. To get out that early pretty much requires a Medical Discharge so not something they can anticipate. Obviously getting kicked out for being a shithead would be a dishonorable discharge and not qualify

It is unlikely someone is getting a dishonorable discharge out of boot camp. The military can administratively separate you within the first 180 days of continuous active duty and it is not a dishonorable discharge. It is simply an "Entry-level Separation" and does not count as an honorable separation for any legal purposes. Just a slight reminder, but a dishonorable charge often comes with prison time. You can be a complete "shithead", but unless you're committing felonies the worst you tend to get is a bad conduct discharge.

In my eight years in the Navy I met a lot of sailors that were not US citizens, and while they were restricted to jobs that required no clearances, they weren't bad people. Discharging people that are willing to do jobs (i.e. Military) that most normal citizens won't is dumb. The security risk argument is garbage, it isn't like actual citizens are immune to blackmail, bribery, or have ideological differences.

IIRC, Native Americans have the highest percentage of service members of any ethnic group. But that's very likely to do with the military preying on poor and vulnerable populations for recruitment.

Interesting, from what I read the natives inhabitants of Taiwan are exempted from compulsory National service but they can volunteer if they want to join.

This is a systematic purge. Shit, green card holders are probably the next in line to be stripped of rights by "technicalities" and deported to countries they haven't seen for 10-20 years. Scary shit.

Admitting immigrants is how the Union won the Civil War.

They're learning. Ain't making that mistake again.

This is so targeted and fucked up. This administration is so brazenly racist and it sickens me that it's gotten this far. Gross.

They're really doing their best to curtail immigration huh.
All this evil to stop a handful of immigrants from daring to become naturalized. Immigrants ready to die for their country, something neither me or the fucking president were prepared to do. Just disgusting and fucking petty.

Jesus Christ, they are clearly and blatantly trying to 'purify' America. This is grounds for .. Well what?Jail time? Huge Lawsuits at the very least. It's unreal but it's just another blip on the news radar that will vanish from the mainstream mind or instantly be normalized. What do ya do?
