I was pretty over Broken Age by the time it wrapped (didn't even play part 2), but the documentary was the surprise best part of that entire thing. Well worth it.

I have not really regretted anything so far, though I have been disappointed in the setbacks several of the projects I have backed have faced.

Me and my ex boyfriend backed Cryamore at the $250 tier level for the statues and everything. Five and a half years later? Still nowhere close to a game. And the worst part is my ex and I are NOT on speaking terms and I don't think either of us even remembers the email to that old kickstarter account. We also broke up and moved out of the apartment we were at at the time like 3 years ago, so yeah.... we won't be getting our rewards that's for damn sure.

Damn, it's been five years since they announced Cryamore. I remember seeing the trailer and hearing the main theme and I was hooked. I couldn't back it because I didn't have the means to, but I was making sure to soak any piece of news that released about it.

Five years later, I really couldn't give a shit now. Feels like they are twiddling their thumbs at this point.

Sorry about your situation, that's gotta suck.

Pretty much all of them. I can't think of a single game I backed on Kickstarter that has paid off. I had a lot more money when I backed games on KS than I do now, so I'm not likely to contribute to any more campaigns, but so far it's a lot of disappointments.

As far as games I've backed that actually came out: Amplitude was a good game but it felt very barebones and came out really late, Broken Age was...okay.

Everything else is either still in development (Chasm, Bloodstained, several other "JRPG" projects) or dead.

Yup. And I was on tumblr defending Rob circa early 2015. Now? fuck him. Thanks, I guess it's only money but fuck... I could put that towards a Switch or something :/

Years ago I put $50 towards a game called Hex Heroes for Wii U and PC. Estimated delivery was 3 years ago. Last update was Jan 2018. The creator does respond to comments at times saying it "is still in development", but yeah.

Battle Chasers, Shenmue 3, Little Devil Inside, Pixel Noir, Knights and Bikes, and Bloodstained are the only games I have Kickstarted. While I'm worried Little Devil Inside and Pixel Noir might not ever make it out, I have a feeling that Bloodstained is going to be the one I regret.

I backed OUYA. Zero regrets with it actually. They delivered what they said.
I also backed Drift Stage. Would love to play it one day.

For me there is one, and only one. Agony. Fucking Agony. I grew up loving horror movies and heavy metal, and I just thought maybe they could deliver. Oh how I was so, so wrong. It is not only an awful, awful game, I am embarrassed to be associated with it. Like it is a skeleton in my closet I would prefer to keep there. So this will be the last time publicly I discuss it. What a mistake.

Several years? The Kickstarter was in 2016, the main game released about a year ago, and as you say, the expansions are starting to ship out soon. That's a pretty normal release schedule for a board game and just one or two expansions, let alone the sheer amount of add-ons they've developed and are delivering in one go.

Over 2 years now, the delays have been pretty bad considering they pulled the kickstarter bonuses from the first wave and pushed everything but the core game back to wave 2 which has had perpetual delays.

Look forward to getting the addons to check them out(dat Sif boss expansion, gimme), just regret putting so much down and only having the core set after 2+ years.

I'm lowkey annoyed knights and bikes really didn't foresee development going this long considering how they've been in the industry forever lol

The first Oculus Rift dev unit. I mean I should have known, but the hype from all the impressions made it sound like the Oasis or something. Nothing could prepare me for how low-res it actually is and how sick it made me feel after three minutes due to the lack of position tracking. It also really sucks that I helped that asshole Palmer Luckey get a hefty paycheck. Thankfully I was able to sell it when they were still in high demand and got way more than I paid for it.

Actually I changed my mind, Amplitude is my biggest regret. But that's just because the soundtrack is trash.

It kills me because the gameplay is on point and I loved the original.

Yooka-Laylee because I wanted to support them for them supporting the Wii U :( Also, this indie called Sneaky Ninja which looks promising but was supposed to be out a long time ago. I get updates on it and the duo (mostly solo) developers keep adding more and more levels, powers, characters, etc. It's probably for the best but I just wish they'd have managed our expectations better.

$80 on Project Phoenix. The last Backer email from them dates back to November 2017, and it's all about Tiny Metal.

I think Tiny Metal flopped as well, but that could just be me being petty.

Mighty No. 9, total dissapointment...but Bloodstained is just around the corner, and that game makes me believe in Kickstarter once again.

The System Shock remake. They basically fucked it up completely to the point of having to announce that they fucked it up completely -- but don't worry! Everything's fine they're just starting over!

Real talk though: the purpose of Kickstarter -- and expectations -- have been distorted in my opinion. My philosophy now is sort of to *not* have expectations, and to accept when I kickstart anything that I will see nothing.

No regrets so far luckily. All three I've supported have been board games based on video games. One was Mega Man Pixel Tactics which was amazing, and the other two are Street Fighter's Miniature game and the current Binding of Isaac KS, so the latter two have yet to actually show results, but both seem promising at least.

Lucky for me too in that the only others I almost supported but ultimately dropped were Mighty No. 9 and Yooka Laylee after first supporting them, which was coincidentally good moves on my part.

Isn't this the kickstarter where it was only supposed to be a remake of System Shock but finally they decided it to make it their own thing? Now nobody gets a game and fan who wanted a remake are even more mad because they didn't ask for a new game.

I've only ever backed two things: Yooka-Laylee and Bloodstained.

Hopefully bloodstained turns out well so I don't go 0 and 2.

Yeah, I mean, basically they misrepresented everything but only in hindsight -- the game went from being a stylistic point-filtered strict "remaster" of sorts, to being a remake, to being a re-envisioned version, to being whatever the fuck it became before they axed it and started fresh. We're still 2+ years off seeing anything I imagine.

The only regret from Kickstarter?

The Dead Linger

However it was quite the drama filled experience, you can look it up, heh.

Everything else I've backed I've been extremely happy with.

Volgarr the Viking
Grim Dawn
Misc Art books
Etc.

I backed this Zelda clone on a whim called Midora and it ended up being put on "indefinite hiatus" because the creator ran out of money.

While some games like Mighty No. 9 and Sundered seemed to have under-delivered, I don't really feel that bad about backing them (although I do feel a little bad for believing in Inafune, but that's on me). MN9 actually didn't even give me a redemption code for the platform I selected, but whatever.

Project Phoenix is horseshit, though. That guy basically just stole our money.

Bloodstained. Hurts even more that I backed it at a high tier. Had no idea IGA was going to add more erotica in the game (his words in Polygon interview). All female character/boss designs are terrible. I know the game is not out yet, but based on everything shown so far and the fact that it's supposedly coming out this year, I just don't see how things will change for the better.

My biggest regret was a western-made JRPG that was pitched during the big Kickstarter boom. Totally my fault for falling for it, but it was the biggest waste of money, as the dev behind it vanished off the face of the earth.

Other than that, the biggest disappointment for me was Broken Age. I backed at a tier for a physical copy, which I got. Years later, and long after both parts of the game were released digitally. By the time it was delivered, I was at a point where I didn't care about the game and just wanted it in my hands so I could call it good and never bother installing it.

I backed a game called The Mandate that looks to be dead. I knew it was a gamble when I did it, but at the time the idea seemed worth the risk. I don't have much regret over it. All the other games I have backed turned out pretty well so far and the rest seem to be on track for release. Though some of the ones yet to release look like they are going to be pretty bad.

All of them, really. I haven't had any of them not deliver yet (though one is currently super delayed) but by the time they come out I just don't really care about them anymore because I have other things I'm focused on. Yooka-Laylee was the one that made me cut down on my backing though because I realised I didn't get anything out of it. The exclusive things were made available to all preorders, I got it later than most other people (streamers were given the game early and the Steam release unlocked late) and I paid more than people who bought it at launch. If there's no real incentive to back a game and it's already reached its target then I'm better off just waiting and seeing whether it's actually any good first.

Muv-Luv - I went in for the physical vita (lol) and steam digital. In hindsight, I would have probably just gone for the steam digital.

Bloodstained - I opted for PS4 physical and steam digital. If I could change it now, I probably would just opt for steam digital.

Not so much as in the thing i've helped kickstart turned out to be a scam by any means, but the only thing I will be kick starting again is anything Larian Studios does.

Yooka Laylee. Not for the game itself so much as for what I paid for. I backed and was supposed to get a backer exclusive physical release (on PC, which was exclusive... but less cool when the PS4/Xbox versions happened), and an art book, which turned out to be a "manual" with a few pages of "art." $130 wasted.

Looking through my backed projects, I think I've been pretty good with what I pick. Even the ones I didn't end up liking that much like Adventures of Pip and Rad Rodgers still delivered polished final products. The only dud so far seems to be Swap Fire 2 which is past its original projected release date but has made seemingly no progress.

Also bob's game but I backed that as a joke.

Project Scam aka Project Phoenix 80$ tier

Fuckers funded everything with that money but the game itself, they even had the gal to ask for more and support the other game. I hope they fail in this industry

I was one of the countless other suckers that backed the OUYA. I turned it on once, hated the feel of the controller so much that I never took it back out of the box.

I also have backed two boardgames that have yet to be delivered. Been waiting for over three years at this point.

Hopefully you didn't ditch it. The OUYA is AMAZING for retro nes, gba, gbc, snes, genesis, tg16, and early arcade classics through Mame. You just have to set the system up with PS3 CONTROLLERS. It's super easy to do and once you've gotten it setup the system is pretty incredible. OUYA controllers were trash and ruined a great idea, but the rest of it was awesome.

Ghost Song - the developer posted an update just a few weeks ago so I'm still hopeful it'll come out eventually. I think he even posts here (or was it on GAF?) too.

Overall, I don't plan on backing any more Kickstarter games unless it's from a tried and true developer (Myst 25th Anniversary (Cyan Worlds), Shovel Knight (Yacht Club Games)).

I say this with absolutely no disrespect for the developer but the only thing I've Kickstarted is Ghost Song. Its been about 5 years at this point and it's still not out.

I'm not mad about it or anything, but in retrospect I probably shouldn't have backed it.

I'm still looking forward to playing it though!
Man, I called that guy out a bunch on GAF and both he and GAF flipped out on me. I big time doubted that game from the start and here we are five plus years later with nothing to show. Dude lived off of your money for years. He sent me a nasty PM.

I got bad vibes from him and tried to warn everyone. Well, just like 3.5mm aux jacks, I tried to tell you.

They were supposed to send one but didn't? Every single reward level of the Ouya kickstarter (> $100) included a console + controller.

No it's my fault.

I got cold feet in the last days and tried to retract my pledge (boy was that the right call in retrospect). I didn't know that choosing "no reward" would keep the amount of the pledge and that I had to put it to $0 myself. I found out when I got charged and KS customer service wouldn't do fuck all.

I generally only back companies that have a history of producing games like the one they're trying to kickstart. So the only one I felt burned on was Auditorium Duet which got cancelled. They gave us a free other game of theirs and all the prototypes they made over the years, but it often seemed like they had a higher priority on supporting their local indie scene than they did actually making their game.

The Veronica Mars movie. It was crap.

Didn't back this, but have watched it... I'd feel a bit meh if I'd put money in. They really ought to have pushed the money into a 6 or 8 episode mini-season, because the film felt very thin. I think if it were proposed now, they would go the mini-season route on something like Netflix or Hulu, so bad timing I guess.

As for what I've backed and regret... Well, regret is such a strong word. There's Phoenix Point, which I do regret putting 25 bucks into. But beyond that, there's just a couple of disappointments - Chime Sharp (I don't rate it as highly as the first game, even though I do still like it), and The Mandate, which seems like they were just too ambitious and things fell through. *shrugs*

I literally have no idea what you're talking about. I've never sent you a PM. I don't even know who you are.

And the game IS coming. I recently started a discord.

recent gif I took to demonstrate something:

72ICdRG.gif

Game is still pre-alpha, but I had to restart its development in Unity about 6 months ago because the engine was fucking up so bad. I'm working on it full time.

Please don't spread lies about me. If you have questions or concerns feel free to hit me up and I'll do my best to respond, but this is just weird.

Anyway -- I'm actually getting semi-close to posting new video(s) and soon after that a new backer demo. I think that'll go a long way to renew peoples' faith in the game since I so strongly feel the new build is so much better than the old one. Making a game is really difficult and time consuming, and for various reasons I ended up having to work on this thing alone. It's a tremendous burden, but I take it very seriously and it's still my only job. I've completely displaced my life to work on and finish this thing. I understand and deserve criticism, and I'm here to listen to and answer it, but what I don't understand this level of vitriol. I'm doing this because I love and care about it. I'm deeply embarrassed that it's taking years beyond the original projected release, and I fucking hate that I've disappointed anyone -- But I'm never giving up, and finally delivering a good game is what I look forward to more than anything else in the world.

Pixel Noir is a game I regret not backing. Past two years I've see it at magfest and it looks better and better.
