Holy shit I remember XXL2 being so good, I loved the references to the other games, it had TONS. I hope XXL3 is similar in that regard.

I have great memories from that game

Now this is my jam. Absolutely loved this game.
The original was also great, but it wasn't exactly worthy of a standalone remaster. I wish it'd be included in this one tho.

Microids is a French company, so not sure why it's surprising they are going after IPs that are popular in Europe.
Because the Asterix franchise has been pretty low in the past years. Aside from the movie and two comics released with a low profile, from my perspective. Don't get me wrong, i'm a huge Asterix fan but it's way past its prime and i'm surprised they still go with it, even with a remaster of a two gens old game with mostly the west european market at best, because Asterix AFAIK is pretty unknowm in North America.

Wait a moment but holy shit, never thought i would see this kind of avatar here hahaha

Weirdly, I have absolutely no reaction to this.

I like Asterix, I remember hearing about the XXL games, but I never really picked up on whether they were any good or not. Was XXL the one with the parodies of other video games in it, or was that a different one? And was that a one-off, or did it continue into the sequel? (I guess part of my bemusement is that I'm not sure I was fully aware that there was an XXL2)

Also yeah, Asterix and Obleix are HUGE in mainland europe, but not that known outside, sadly, because they comics and animated movies are great.
Asterix is reasonably well known here in Australia, too, along with Tintin. As in, if you walk into the average library you'll find a big stack of Asterix comics, usually along with Tintin. Fantastic, fantastic stories. And the newer comics written and drawn by new people are still pretty decent. I haven't read the most recent one, Asterix and the Chariot Race, from late 2017, but it is apparently the best selling comic of 2017. Or at least the one with the biggest print run.

The initial print run was 5 million copies. That's 2 million for France, 2 million for Germany, and 1 million for everyone else.

It kinda irks me, TBH, that the US-centric slant of the English speaking internet means that something so HUGE and renowned for its quality is pretty much nonexistent in typical internet discussion because the series isn't popular in America despite being beloved in many countries.

Haven't played an Asterix game since the SNES (and that one was an amazing platformer)
Are the new games any good?

I played the shit out of XXL2 as a kid.
Unironically excited for the remaster and new game.

The original was much better than it had any right to be, so I am interested in a sequel.

Still waiting my Asterix Musou!

What is this supposed to mean?

I played the game, because it was incredible for the GBA.

Fake edit: googled it, gonna watch that YouTube channel.

I watch DF Retro and listen to Retronauts though.

Because they had a section about strange games and feats of gaming, and Asterix XXL on GBA was one of them, praising the 3D effect. I was blown off of how impressive it still looks today.

Whoa now this is something I wasn't expecting. I remember playing the Sega Genesis version so many years ago but was stuck on a specific level.

Is this coming to the USA?!

I love the XXL games, so glad to see another one! Vive Astérix !

Still, since Étranges Libellules isn't there anymore, I hope the game will be good...

It's an original story.

I can't wait for this, Alexandre Astier is the creator and actor in Kaamelott, a popular medieval comedy series in France (and French-Canadians) from the early/late 2000's

I don't know if there's videos with English subs on YT, but I definitely recommend it.

You're thinking of Asterix and the Great Rescue. I also never finished it as despite renting it numerous times, I'd always hit a roadblock with the log roll boss.

I imagine it'll be a worldwide release, at least digitally. The announcement was tweeted twice: once in French and again in English.

Never heard of them.

GBA had a few really impressive games, V-Rally 3, Driver 3, Asterix XXL and Super Monkey Ball.

Might be missing a few later games; I think there's a Tony Hawk 3D game (downhill or something), not the isometric ones.

Gaming needs more Bretagne. We have Astérix and, uh, maybe the first two Ys games?
Never played these, kind of a weird announcement but why not. And based on the replies I need to check out that recent animated movie.

I had a 2D Astérix game on my pc in the late 90s, I remember really enjoying it but I have no idea if it holds up.
Still waiting my Asterix Musou!
Oh wow, that would totally work.

I was really disappointed when the movie didn't come to the US. Do any streaming services in the US have it?

I loved the comics. Between Asterix and Tintin, that was my childhood.

I didn't know there was a sequel to Asterix & Obelix XXL... I played the first one and it was such an enjoyable game. I'll definitely check this out.
