It was the most Star Wars movie that people who hated TLJ wanted and most of them boycotted it.

I can't wait in about another month or 2 when it becomes hated on Era. That's typically how movie impressions and threads have gone recently.

Didn't care for the actual on planet heist, but I dug just about everything else.

No issue with the naming scene or origin moments.

Glover dramatically crying over that robot on the other hand was embarrassing.

Would also love a Solo 2, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Given the circumstances, Howard did a fantastic job.

I thought it was really uneven and the more time passes the more I lean towards not liking it just because of how forgettable it was compared to basically every other Star Wars movie. It does fan service in the best way, Glover as Lando is great, the climax is cool with a dope plot twist. But a lot of the first half felt strangely prequely, having weird exposition bits and pretty poor writing, and the movie just generally looks a lot worse than the other Disney Star Wars movies visually. The cast is good but not great. Overall something just seems lesser about it to me.

That was really good? Like I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it? Do we know how much was Ron Howard and how much was Lord & Miller?

Fuck, I want a solo 2!

Anyways what did you guys think?

I would be down for a Solo 2, but that isn't happening.

I found the movie disposable but highly entertaining. Which is what I expected.

"Unnecessary, but enjoyable."
I think that was my response to the movie. It's a good movie, but also not one that I was asking for or excited about, even after seeing it.

I had a good time. I think I'd probably have enjoyed it more had events of The Force Awakens not occurred.

It's an ok film. But I really didn't like how Han's character is created in this small time frame. It's similar to the beginning of The Last Crusade where we learn where Indiana got his scar, his whip, his hat and his fear of snakes and all that in a SINGLE DAY.

So here they need to shoehorn how Han got his last name, how he got his blaster, how he met Chewie, how he won the Falcon and did the Kessel Run. It's too much. They should have just kept it simple.

Not seen it but this is my biggest turn off.

The entire thing is based around over explaining a character that had allure largely in part of his mystery and the legend surrounding his exploits.

Seems like it will dilute the original films more than add to them.

Saw it last week... Enjoyed it.

Maybe people didn't like the fact that they didn't throw Jedis and lightsabers in your face but I found it to be an entertaining space heist movie. I enjoyed it.

But unlike the Indy example, all of that didn't happen over a day. It was gradually throughout and it's not like they covered everything. The blaster was hardly a thing.

I'm still annoyed that half of Era was going off on the clips of the movie that were posted containing some of the worst acting they'd ever seen. Dramatic over freaking nothing. Everyone was great.

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. The Last Jedi
3. A New Hope
4. The Force Awakens
5. Return of the Jedi
6. Solo
7. Revenge of the Sith
8. Rogue One
9. The Phantom Menace
10. Attack of the Clones

Movie was a fun ride. If you go in with normal expectation, I feel like you will enjoy it a lot. I honestly had more fun with it than TLJ, and all of the characters did a great job.

Opinions, surely?

Maybe I'll agree with you when I see it, but still...
The acting is the exact same in the clip as it is in the movie, which is something hardly anyone complained about after seeing it.

Just saying, people were trying a little too hard to be mad about this before going in.

I get having doubts or being unsure, but go look up one of those threads after you see the movie and you'll see what I mean.

I'm sad that we will probably never get to see Emilia Clarke's character was up to at the end of the movie...

Maybe in a comic.

I thought it was fine. There's a lot of "oh this is how he gets this and this is the explanation of that" which is ok considering it's an origin movie. But it's more specific callbacks to give background to specific actions in the other movies. It's like ok, I get the reason now why he greets Lando in that way in ESB. I feel there was enough there of the cocksure Han to draw a line from Ehrenreich to Ford, predominantly in how the relationship changes between

him and Beckett. He goes from saving his life to taking it, realizing that he needs to do things on his own terms. I guess you could say the same with regards to him finally becoming a pilot - by conforming to the Empire's program, he was only a ground soldier. But by embracing the life he was meant to be a part of, he finally began the fly.

The references make it a bit workman-like, in a way to enforce that hey, this is about Han! But I'm able to look over that for a different, small scale look at SW.

For everything it gave away about Han himself, this movie raised a ton more questions about other characters.

I just hate the idea that because of money this whole thing is gonna seem like a mistake when I thought it was better than Rogue One. Reshoot the heist to be better and the whole movie would be a damn near perfect light blockbuster.

Terribly stuck between average and good enough for me. Enjoyed it more than Rogue One, which I though was simply mediocre (taking into account I went into it full of expectations because people hyped it so much).

I understand fan reaction and hyperbole being synonymous often.

I think hyperbole should be ignored, but I've seen many level headed takes suggesting the acting isn't great all-round.

Opinions, is the point. Like I'm sure there are loads of people who thought this was a great idea from the start.

I thought it was OK. For me it was not as good as TLJ, RO or Force Awakens, but a step above the prequels. I never really felt like the Solo actor had even a fraction of the charm or charisma as Ford, however, so that kind of limited its appeal for me.

I have a big problem with Solo effectively founding the Rebel Alliance by handing over a whole fleet's worth of expensive coaxium for free. It destroys way too much canon.

You don't think Solo would later remind pompous Leia and Luke of that shit while being accused of being greedy and selfish after saving their asses?

Otherwise I sorta liked it.

It was a fun ride. Nothing groundbreaking but I liked that it was a solid, tight adventure movie in the Star Wars universe.

It was very fun yet very inessential. I'd recommend everyone who likes Star Wars or sci fi adventure movies watch on Netflix but I wouldn't say you have to go see in in theaters.

Yeah I'm with you on this OP. I went into the movie expecting Spider Man 3 and left pleasantly surprised. They really surpassed my expectations for most of the movie. My only real gripes were the Kessel Run and, like others have said, I found the naming scene to be pretty stupid.

I also really liked it, strong cast, good action, and simple story can go a long way. I also appreciate that it felt like the old school EU at times(the good kind of old school EU at least), I also liked pretty much every character which was a big plus.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

And this might be the only time that a geek property has whipped out an Easter Egg and I legitimately felt giddy.
Qi'ra being trained in Teras Kasi is wonderful but Lando dictating his prior adventures and talking about The Mindharp of Sharu is next level greatness.
The movie did a LOT better job of dropping subtle references that only some fans would catch. In their first game, Solo puts his non-existent VCX-100 in the pot. The VCX-100 has never been named in any of the other movies, but it's the same type of ship that serves as home base in Rebels: Hera's ship. Someone watching the movie doesn't miss anything by not catching the reference, but for those who DO catch it, it just makes a scene just that little bit more.

I enjoyed Solo a lot. Harrelson was great. Glover was sublime. Did it have issues? Sure, no movie is perfect. To call it trash like some are? Nah.

I enjoyed it, but honestly the only bit which I had a huge smirk on my face was when "tie Fighters attack" music starting playing whilst piloting the falcon on that wormhole/storm area.

Also the Solo name being given to him by some random imperial, urghhh..

Is that really a callback? It's just wardrobe... it's not like Glover's facial hair is a callback to Billy Dee's stache.

What do you know about Lando from the OT? He wore a cape.
"Callback", "reference", whatever you want to call it, its kinda stupid.
If Glover had a drawer on the Falcon full of mustache combs, it would be equally lame. I'm actually surprised that wasn't in there now that I think about it.

That wasn't the Rebel Alliance. Bail, Mothma, and Ahsoka had already been setting that up since right after RotS, though the formal creation of the Alliance isn't until 3 BBYish when Mothma is expelled from the Senate and flees to Dantooine. That was just one cell that presumably later gets absorbed.

This happens every time. A mediocre movie comes . Most dislike it. Months later someone posts he just saw it late and loves it. Gets positive feedback in the first page then everyone reminds the OP how much it sucked.

I do want to see it eventually. I'm just so done with established Star Wars characters.

I suppose that's why I'm so into what Rian Johnson is doing right now.
