I don't like Kalameets head swipes, they have those nasty Souls lingering hitboxes that drag you along with them making them difficult to dodge through them, so I tend to more often than not roll back and avoid them - miss the opportunity to hit him, but also don't get hit yourself.

LobosJr's "dodge to the left and dodge to the right..." little song helped me always get the tail cut. I always get weird RNG on his attacks though, whenever I watch a video or speed run, it seems to go swimmingly, then I try and I get attacks I thought he only did at long range, short range and vice versa and I'm an Estus chugging mess!

I don't want to come off as being really any smug here, and all 'lol Dark Souls is ez', but Kalameet is insanely easy if you know what you're doing. The only awkward thing is trying to cut his tail, because you need to bait a specific attack which he tries his best to not do. Having a shield completely trivialises the fight, but it's not too harder two handing or dual wielding.

  • Back away from his constantly.
  • If he does the straight breath attack, roll left or right.
  • If he does the sweep, sidestep left and close in on him.
  • Get near his front legs and put your shield up (roll if you don't have one), and block his head swipe, then keep it up for a second in case he does a second. After this, hit him twice, then back away again.
  • If he flies up in the air and breathes down, just carry on backing away.
  • If the planets align and he swoops at you, roll to your left, then position yourself under his tail, and roll before he slams you with it. Attack the tail, then back up. Sometimes he'll go straight into his sweeping breath when he lands instead, so just back away and sidestep left.

Well. I have beaten him yesterday using this method. Funny that you wrote down exactly what i did haha. No, not a smug at all. He nearly didnt hurt me at all. Once you got his pattern down its kinda easy i guess. Still, before that he was a lot of trouble for me. Maybe i was to greedy. That never works for souls.

after that i took down Gwyn in 1 try. I had been stuck for a while at Soul of Cinder in DS3 so this was a very easy fight for me. Hoped i could go back after the fight to collect some stuff but as soon as a runned out of the room it was over :( bummer

Kalameet head swipes remind me of the Watchdog of the old lords' head swipe hitboxes. They seem to hit you in its recovery frames and that just feels wrong.

Guys, I just beat the game last night and I must say it went straight to top 3 games I have ever played. Amazing really, now the questions is what to do next? I wanted to play DS2 but my brother and a friend who are great Soulsborne fans tell me to skip DS2 and jump staight to to DS3 and/or Bloodborne.

What do you guys think?

Ignore them and play DS2, it's the black sheep of the series for a reason but it's still a solid game that has its fans, which for all anyone knows you might wind up one of. Really silly to just skip it entirely, it's worth playing through. The DLCs are the best content in it so make sure you do those if you do play it.

I just got the platinum trophy for DS2 and loved (almost) every minute of it. For a shieldless, fast-rolling longsword type I think it's better than DS1. You do have to deal with multiple enemies far more than DS1 and I think it's harder overall. I didn't try playing with heavy armour or using miracles, and I only dabbled with sorcery and pyromancy, so ymmv if they're your thing.

The world is less cohesive and you almost never find yourself looping back to an earlier zone, but it has more 'wow, look at this place!' moments than 1.

Anyone on PC this weekend want to help me with the unique weapon trophy? Going to tally everything I have and see what else I can get now that I'm near the end of this 2nd playthrough.

Don't understand the hate for dark souls 2. It's still worth a play if you enjoy the series.

I like DS2 a lot. More than 3 I think. I only played the Scholar of the First Sin version though, with all the patches and DLC included. Apparently it changed a lot. Plus the 60fps was great.

I'm on xbox, sorry, but if you don't get any joy here try the dark souls reddit. They're pretty helpful, just specify PC upfront.

Edit - in theory you can get nearly all weapons in the 1st playthrough. 2nd playthrough you need to get some boss weapons (e.g. queelag has 2, butterfly has 2) and either Gwyn's miracle or Gwyn's sword.

Third playthrough can be very short - you just need to craft whichever Gwyn thing you didn't get PLUS sif's third weapon. make sure you have all the base weapons you need at +10 in the second playthrough to save you having to get the ember again in the third playthrough.

So 3rd time can literally be:-
Run through starting area
Run through undead town, say hello to the gargoyle twins
Get to andre, buy key, kill sif, feel bad
Take blightown via the back passage and enjoy Queelag
Stroll through Sens and attack the Iron Golems Achilles tendon
Final boss is the AL archers to get to the giant blacksmith.

The checklists tab of this webpage is very handy for tracking the 4 "listy" achievements

if anyone has extra eyes or ears they can part with so I can get the spells from the covenants I would really appreciate it. On Xbox One. Will be on tonight.

Ears are harder to farm, but you can farm for the eyes in less than 30 minutes by killing Basilisks in the Depths. Even faster with maxed out item discovery.

DS2 gets a lot of undeserved negative attention.

Dark Souls 2 does have issues, but I'd still play it over the dozens of games I have in my PSN account that I haven't touched.

With 10 Humanity (to boost your item discovery) you'll have a ton of Curse resistance anyway. You'll almost have to go out of your way to get cursed. And if you do get cursed, you can just stock up on Purging Stones from Moss vendor lady. No biggie.

Yeah I have 6 purging stone, but I don't really want to waste my humanity if I don't have to. I appreciate the tips though. Hoping someone has 7 to spare for a drop if possible :)

To farm ears offline I used to run up to the first tower (on top of where the Dried Finger used to be). 2 Crows come down when you walk to the back where the soul item is, kill them, then fire off an arrow to each of the two over where Karmic Justice is, they will also fly over. Jump down and rest at the bonfire, rinse and repeat. I find it quicker than running to the spiral staircase where red soapstone is.

I've found conflicting info on this.. if I make a fire bow, do I need to use the corresponding fire arrows to actually get the elemental damage from the bow?

My toddler son just nearly broke my Dark Souls BR disc in half. He managed to press the button that ejects the disc half way like PS4 does.

You can guess the rest.

This is the Dark Souls of taking care of a child.

LOL.

Your first mistake was buying discs in a house with a toddler.

When my son was born late 2013 I started DS1 for the first time. 100% it while caring for a newborn. That's hard mode.

Now I'm doing it again with my daughter who was just born. We truly are the heroes.

It's not too bad. I got constantly one to two hours of gaming each night. Just have to burn the candle from both ends a bit lol!

Use Power Within + Gold Pine Resin for DPS.
Eh. Temporary DPS boosts is bad advice for Kalameet because it's very much a hit-and-run kind of boss, you don't get that many openings and it's more of a battle of attrition. That kind of advice is great for 4 Kings, and maybe even Manus, but less for Kalameet.

I'm already pumped for a Dark Souls 2 remaster. Is that even necessary? I dunno. I never played SOTFS. But if there's a remaster coming I'd rather wait to play it when the player population explodes again as did DS1 remastered.

SOTFS is a remaster of the last gen game

Soooo I probably should have bought it on Steam yesterday when it was still super cheap. It's back up to full price again. Fuck.

Either way, it's way more enjoyable to play through these games when they are in the public zeitgeist, because we get cool threads like this one and lots of co-op / invasion opportunities that aren't only with people who have dedicated their lives to the game.

Yeah, even in the time between when the remaster is new and now, the PVP has changed drastically. I had some fun with it before, but now it's like if you don't have some crazy twinked-out PVP-focus build you don't stand half a chance

Yup.

I just finally got to the forest hunters covenant and the only people I invaded were people who clearly had no intention of progressing. They were roaming around with the same sunbros each time just to troll the invaders.

Fair game to them, but I'm surprised there aren't more people who take weeks/months to play through these games (like me).

I've only beaten DS2 once, and that took me about two years.

If I'm in regular NG, is it possible for someone to summon me for co-op in NG+? There have been a couple times where the boss seemed significantly harder than normal, but I'm not sure if it's just my imagination.

jump straight to Dark Souls 3. Although if it's a choice between DS3 and Bloodborne, I'd say to play Bloodborne.

Edit: Either way, DS2 is a trash fire in a lot of different ways. It's one of the few games I didn't even care to finish and I have the platinum in DS1, DS3 and Bloodborne

I'm having trouble deciding on which bow(s) to upgrade on my DEX-focused character. I know the composite will give me the most damage, but I feel like the range on the shortbow helps a lot too. Then I'm not sure if I also want to bother upgrading a long range bow to complement the fast one

So I can't stay away. I'm doing NG+ as my gimped sorcerer. My aim was see how far I get, if I die too many times move on. I made it up to the capra demon before dying a whole heap of times. Come back the next day and passed it my first go I died a lot due to enemy placement as the dogs and the demon formed a wall it was impossible to get past them. I tried everything even great combustion! On my successful attempt I ran through a gap then it was easy. Did the depths and sens without dying. Anor Londo was easy until the archers. My strategy worked, rolling faster than the arrows landed.

First ledge attempt: Parry successful once. Second parry I fell LOL

Second Ledge attempt: Parry successful mistime my swing and fell. This time the knight fell with me.

Third ledge attempt: 2 parries and I MADE IT!! Get to the bonfire kindle..... select homeward bone instead of humanity and ohhh nooo lol. Luckily I homeward boned back to the bonfire I just got to.

ended up tossing on Dusk's set, which made it almost impossible to get cursed. 10 humanity and got 10 eyes easy. thanks.

Someone attempted to invade me, I killed them with my fierce sorcery abilities (kept my distance and got lucky with a few great heavy soul arrows). Another person tried to invade me, but one of the knight AI's killed me just as the invader appeared on screen :-D..... avoided losing my humanity and souls by the invaders hand!

This is while I'm still trying to get past O&S - I had racked up close to 200,000 souls and 11 soft humanity while attempting. I was super lucky in that I was able to recover it again and again and again after dying (thus why it was so high). I've leveled myself up a tiny bit more with those souls now, so they won't go to waste. But I'm going to be spewing if I die again and can't recover my humanity the next time after.

Man, they really should've removed half - if not all - of Lost Izalith's Dragon Butts in the Remaster. That'd definitely have been a welcome QoL-change.
Clearing the area of them was just tedious and slowed down the pace of my playthrough far too much. 2000 Souls per Dragon Butt on NG isn't compensation enough for that torture.

God dammit. I hate that they lock stuff behind PVP. I suck at it and I'm trying to invade the guilty and just getting destroyed. Shit.

edit: I thought I wanted to 100% this game but god dammit I don't know if that's going to happen.

I never kill any of them. If you're unlucky and aggro one they're easy to outrun.

I know but I just want to rid the area of them for my Red Chunk/Red Slab runs and can't play through an area without killing every enemy atleast once.
It's just that they didn't add anything meaningful to the original game/were a part of the rushed development Lost Izalith fell victim to.

Are you trying to get the Souvenirs of Reprisal to get the covenant rewards?

No need for PvP. You can farm them from the humanoid crows in the Painted World. The drop great is not great, but with 10 Humanity and a Symbol of Avarice / Covetous Gold Serpent Ring you should be able to get it done in less than an hour.

Wish I had known this, ha. Thanks for the reply. I got my 10 after a lot of stress.

The other one is the gravelord covenant? I can't do that until ng+. Can those be farmed?
