Unturned is a game that went viral several years back as a feel good story, where the main hook was that it was made by someone super young (like 9 years old or something). It's not a bad game, but it's not 27-million people playing good or anything. Most of its fame was supporting the young developer who was enthusiastic.

I am apparently one of those 27 million customers. I remember buying it solely to support the dev.
What happened to that dev now?

It's also $50. The other FF ports/remasters are like $20-$30 at most.
It was priced dropped in a sale recently. I am sure it is possible to get the game cheaper through other key sellers like it is the case with most PC games.

Just to let everyone know since some were wondering about this - Valve already makes concurrent player count public knowledge. These numbers represent the game having been launched on an account at least once.

Still maintaining the game, IIRC. It's a day-z like game, so it's something he still works on. Shit, at 27 million sales, dude should continue working on it as long as he can. That's a certified major hit, low cost or not. That number is fucking insane. Major props to the dev.
Good for him then. He sounds like a millionaire with all these sales.

Hopefully, he can work on another project in the future since he has plenty of his life ahead.

Nice to know that after all this time, TF2 remains one of the biggest titles on Steam.

Final Fantasy XV is about to hit 500k. Not bad at all.

Meanwhile, Zodiac Age is struggling at 110K but Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster has done well and currently at 568K. I guess FFXII as a game is just not appealing to the majority.

Or, it is completely overpriced compared to the other games.

I dunno if he's a millionaire -- the game was dirt cheap, like under a dollar or something like that IIRC. And at times, it's also been free. (EDIT: just looked, and it's currently free to play, with a $5 upgrade or something).

I hope he is financially secure, though. I mean, 27 million players is something major AAA games from thousand-man studios would kill for.

Im heartened that Terreria is so huge, I have really fond memories with that game. Starbound never grabbed me in the same way (at least its early iterations when I last checked in).

Did you miss the biweekly "PUBG broke another record" threads? lol.
I must have missed them recently. Those threads were popping up like a year ago. PUBG never really gets talked about here anymore (unless I'm blind).

Bluehole has got to get this thing on PS4 and Switch if it's this big!

I'm genuinely surprised GTAV isn't higher. That game seems to dominate in terms of pure exposure across the entire industry.

Skyrim is a monster as a purely single player game.

Yeah, wow:

Code:
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 13,235,488 72850
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition 4,398,897 489830

There's a lot of meat here with these numbers on the whole, but the sheer bulk of the Skyrim numbers still amazes me. I think I'd maybe argue that The Elder Scrolls is in that rarefied tier of gaming phenomenons just under GTA and Minecraft and right alongside stuff like PUBG. Insane for a singleplayer game.

Rev1 had a two year head start though. Pretty good, all things considered imo

Those numbers aren't surprising given the last data we had before SteamSpy lost the info. That being said, these numbers don't include people who own a game but never played it so that is going to hit sequels pretty hard. Even if you Trails 3rd, for example, you probably wouldn't install it or launch it if you haven't beat Trails SC.

Wait is that the new way people were getting data that was pretty damn recently killed by Valve rounding numbers, or is that something else?

Final Fantasy XV is at 490K. That's not bad, but not tremendous.

Fallout 4 is sitting at 6.6 mil. That's pretty good. Not quite Skyrim, but that has had a few more years and a whole 2nd edition to get to the 13 mil number.

Edit: Made a mistake of 200K for FFXV. Almost at 500K. Figured they could go higher.

May I recommend that the OP point out this "method" was used while active, and has since been patched out? This is a fun and illuminating blip-in-time snapshot from July 1 that the public has since lost access to. Kyle's active at the article's comment section itself if you wanna pose questions to him about the data.

Revelations 1 came out over 2 years before REmake HD, and has been bundled more often at lower tiers.

If you get GTAV outside Steam, you don't get it on Steam and it won't count in this number.

Because Take-Two had the amazing idea of making a new digital store that has only one game, there's probably many people account-sharing Rockstar Social Club accounts.

I'm pretty sure they gave Unturned for free a few years ago. I have it on my library yet i never played it or bought it at all.
AFAIK it's always been a free game, with the option to pay $5 to support the dev (and get some ugly cosmetics and access to ""Gold Servers"" lol) I paid $5 because I had a lot of fun with it for a bit a few years ago.
Still, I hope he's made a decent amount off of selling the Gold upgrades!

ITT: People who have no idea WTF Unturned is (myself included).

Is it really popular in non-english speaking countries or something? It does have 311k reviews.
