True! They could've had a core writing staff for the entire sequel trilogy -- which could have included or excluded JJ. (Given how insane the fandom gets about the "lore," this is probably a good idea anyway). Or, if JJ had done the entire trilogy he probably would've improv'd his way through a continuous story somehow. But continuous or no, it probably wouldn't have been any better, given how meandering Lost got and how Star Trek Into Darkness turned out. We're stuck with him for 2/3rd of this trilogy regardless, which seems like the worst of all worlds.

ANYWAY this is all a sidebar. Hope Keri Russell is ready for the bullshit. I bet her social media already has some questionable shit in it from the fandom. Welcome to Star Wars!
Today you learned that Lucasfilm has a story group that keeps the canon consistent.

Film trilogies are not created by having an outline of each one that has to be strictly followed. That's not how film creation works, ESPECIALLY not Star Wars.
That group is not involved in creating and mapping out stories. They're involved in making sure the new stories fit with the old ones.

And that is how most media creation works when you have a planned end point- you outline the whole thing at the start. Parts may change in development but you generally know where you're starting and ending. JJ just handing everything off wholesale is...not the norm.

JJ never actually had any answers for the questions he was asking. It's the "Mystery Box" problem he started w/ Felicity and continued to use with Alias and LOST. He'd set up stuff and then move on from the show and let other people figure it out. He did the same thing here until Trevorrow bombed out.

So it's hard to complain about a lack of "respect" for the original direction when there never was an original direction in the first place.
Unlike Lost or Alias SW is a decades long super franchise with a history of 6 movie long story arcs and potential to continue on in perpetuity. So the mentality of just writing and showing a single episode without knowing where the next 2-5 episodes are going is all but guaranteed to upset people. TLJ Grossed half of what TFA did. HALF. I think it was in large part to the realization that SW had derailed and we weren't getting a large story this time.

Make Rey Darth Maul's mother
Rey is the secret mastermind behind the events in the OT. They'll reveal it in the remake of A New Hope they're going to do after Luke: A Star Wars Story, Organa: A Star Wars Story, Kenobi: A Star Wars Story and Droids: A Star Wars Story. It's going to be the most ambitious crossover event of the century!

I want to believe shes playing a jedi who's been in hiding or one of the Knights of Ren or something interesting

Fans want to believe its Rey's mom

the truth is she's probably gonna be some lame and pointless character like Benecio Del Toro's DJ or Laura Dern's Admiral Holdo

I mean, it can't realistically be anything else than a fairly small role. They have 2.5 hours to finish up this entire trilogy with a neat bow. That's not enough time to start introducing big players.

TIL apparently half of 2 billion is 1.3 billion.

I haven't seen Keri Russell in anything but I've heard good things. Can't believe IX will start filming this month. I'm excited!

Now I'm imagining how awesome it'd be if she and a bunch of older, badass women made up the Knights of Ren as bodyguards for Kylo.

J.J. did have a start and end point, it was TFA, he left it open, Rian Johnson saw what he was going for and continued the story.

One, dont lie. Its a bad look.

Two, TLJ had a very similar percentage drop from TFA that ESB did from ANH.

Everyone skipped ESB because they knew Star Wars was derailed.

Read that as Kurt Russell. I don't think I've ever been this suddenly disappointed in my entire life.

11 pages on a single casting. Yep, TLJ definitely killed Star Wars.
It definitely killed anybody's ability to talk about anything other than TLJ when Star Wars news is announced.

Keri should not play the mother. Keri should play either a straight antagonist/dark mirror of Rey or be the stand-in for Holdo/Leia as the level headed commander of a dying resistance. And maybe survive to the end of the film this time.

Alright Thatguy you post is pure nonsense. People didnt see TLJ because they knew it was derailed?

Explain this:

TLJ grossed 65% of TFA.
ESB grossed 67% of ANH (not counting the special edition re-releases)
ESB grossed 63% of ANH (counting both films special edition releases).

She's playing Holdo 2.0 The Holdoning and will have bright glowing purple hair for maximum triggering.

Santa Destroy
Sweet.

She'll play the main story beats Carrie Fischer would have played i imagine? And be introduced in the crawl as the person who stepped up falling Leia's Death during the time skip, seamless intro

Report says her role will be action heavy, doubt Carrie would have had action fight scenes.

My prediction is she is playing a Knight of Ren.

I do hope that unlike Carrie Coon in Infinity War or Gwendoline Christie in TFA and TLJ, that doesn't mean she'll be painted over with CGI or put in full body armor the entire movie.

Knights of Ren are never showing up, they're another running joke like Phasma.

You'll see them in some comic book

It turned into one? It was a good franchise during the prequels but now we had 4 well reviewed movies in a row and its now terrible?

What.
Star Wars has always been rather terrible as a franchise and I'm a huge mark for it. The fanbase is one of the most toxic out there and even the non-toxicity parts of it hyperbolically state these films are masterworks in film craft and if if you feel otherwise you can fuck off. It's complete bollocks.

It was exactly like this during the prequels.

Either you thought Lucas raped your childhood or you thought he was an infallible genius.

As someone who posted on the major SW forums back then it was those two camps bickering nonstop. There was basically no middle ground amongst the fanbase.

It was back before that as well. I mean the entire franchise basically merchandises space nazis that kids look up to because "they look cool." Star Wars has a clear message in the movies about anti-authoritarianism yet a lot of people grew up seeing them as the "cool bad guys." So Star Wars already attracts those type of people, and even Disney is guilty of doing this today by having Stormtroopers march in Disney Land for the kids to see them.

I mean her outfit. Everyone was wearing some type of military outfit but her. She looked like she belonged on canto bite
Why cant a leader wear a dress? Mothma the leader of Rebellion wore a very similar dress in RO and ROTJ.

Leia wore a girlish dress while at the Rebellion HQ in ANH too.

RO_Mon_Mothma.png

This is military garb to you?

This complaint makes no sense.

Her actions were what really bothered me. It was so frustrating to watch Poe's mutiny. Like what the F.
Her actions were logical and correct throughout the entire film. She knew exactly what she was doing and had a great plan. Poe was being an arrogant ass.

Holdo was awesome and a badass. One of the most interesting Rebels in the entire franchise. Give me Holdo over Wedge any day. Laura Dern is a national treasure.

Queue someone tying themselves into a pretzel arguing that both outfits are designed for battle
